"The people at Valley Christian Home are very nice and very accommodating. The inside of the facilities are very nice. It's just there's a lot of different hallways and sections, and with what my mom is going through, I think it would be very confusing for her. They have good storage, and they each have an individual nice-sized bathroom. It's more of a hotel room. There's not a lot of amenities in the room. They don't want the residents cooking or anything like that. They have a library and a courtyard. This is a fenced facility. So mom wouldn't be able to just walk away from it. They have daily walks, they have recreation, church services on Sundays, and Bible study groups. The staff was very nice and was able to answer all the questions."

"My wife moved into the Easy Living Senior Home. It's closer to home than some of the others. It's very good. There are only six clients here, so they get better attention. It's just a closer-knit atmosphere. The general care is as good as the previous home my wife was in. It's an overall better experience for her and the people visiting. It was very clean and modern. They cook food to order. There are no real activities. Most of the patients aren't able to do much or lead an active life around the house. The caregivers are great because of the general positive attitude they show and the care they give to their clients and visitors. The food is excellent."

"One of my grandparents had an extended stay at Bethel Lutheran Home. I remember some very fond memories of the place and the experience. Many people often stereotype assisted living facilities as being very bureaucratic and often depressing. With Bethel Lutheran Home, not so. This place was clearly a cut above. In fact the term "facility" doesn't even describe the place. It was so much more inviting, warm, and homelike with a very relaxed atmosphere. I remember all the nurses my grandfather had there because all of them greeted me personally at each visit, and they remembered him and myself and pretty much all of my family on a first name basis. It seemed like every time I went to visit him there were several people who would stop by just to ask how things were going, even simply how my grandfather was feeling. At the same time, a more independent lifestyle is encouraged and patients are not smothered or treated like farm animals. It's for this wonderful balance between the two that I highly recommend the Bethel Lutheran Home for you or your loved ones. "

"I always mention Evergreen by name every time I hear friends and relative needing help for their elderly. My personal experience with Evergreen has been absolutely positive. First, the helpers show great compassion and truly care for the patients as if their own relative. Many of these ladies also work for the other fancy assisted living places in Visalia, so their training is just as good if not better. Second, my aunt (was there for over 4 years, but recently passed) was very under nourished from living by herself for so many years. After she moved in to Evergreen, she was back to normal weight, and back to her old self again within a couple of months since the food was incredible. Third, Evergreen passed our very sensitive sniff test since majority of other facilities do have strong urine smell. Evergreen smells and looks clean especially with more remodeling they're doing today. Last but not least, for the amount my aunt was spending compared to other fancy facilities in the area, I was blown away with Evergreen's more down to earth cost for us average folks. Other places will lure you in at a low cost when you first check in, but they'll tack on added cost with their silly point system. For example, if you want peanut butter or they wheel your aunt to the dining room, other places charge extra for this. At Evergreen, they charge you one flat rate, and that's it! We were able to stretch my aunt's savings a lot further. Don't get me wrong, Evergreen is not perfect, but for the care and love plus decent cost they provided my aunt, I wished I had placed her there first because she loved Evergreen. "

"This is located at a busy intersection making getting past the security gate a tad tricky. Once inside the grounds are well maintained with ample parking. The entrance is like a living room with wall murals and ornate furnishings, like grandma's house. My guide explained that's because they are a family owned facility and the owner has brought her own furnishings. There was a slight scent of potpourri throughout the air, but the facility smelled clean anyway. Some of the residents were sitting in their wheelchairs along the hallway, the rest were in their rooms or sleeping. The rooms were spacious and the residents can bring their own furniture. Each room has a toilet and sink only because the residents are bathed every other day at a communal shower. The caregiver's stations were easy to find and the staff called the residents by name. I was impressed that an Activities Director is one duty every day. They also offer Alzheimer's care. I would recommend this facility. "

"This is a privately owned assisted living facility for low income residents who are on Medical assistance or in some cases, abandoned by their family and under the assistance of the county or adult protective services. The facility is currently undergoing some flooring replacement, but the whole facility could use a facelift. There was some odor, but nothing obnoxious. They care for some residents that aren't seniors, but are in need of assistance. I was told that they try to serve fresh food, but what I saw looked canned. The rooms had some of the resident's belongings on the floor in bags. There is room to move about outdoors, but the grounds are only a grassy area surrounded by a chain link fence. One of the patient rooms was so hot, they had to leave the door open, while the TV room was very cold and the TV reception was blurry. "

"I visited Palm Village in Reedly. The rooms were very nice and very clean. They're great for a permanent situation but that's not what I need. I just need somebody to stay with my mom when I needed to be gone. "

"This is a privately owned board and care facility for low income residents located in a converted, older two story residence near downtown. The staff uses the second story while residents live downstairs. The rooms are small and without bathrooms; some rooms had vinyl tiles missing. Residents were being fed lunch which was canned food; no dining room, just TV trays or small tables. I didn't see activities posted; just a old small TV in the living room where one resident was watching. I didn't detect any obnoxious odors, but the residents didn't look well groomed. If you have no other options, it's better than being on the street, but sad. "

"This is a small 24 bed facility, more like a group home. There were residents in their wheelchairs seated in front of a TV mostly sleeping. My guide told me they decide what to watch, but I don't think most grandma's want to spend Sunday watching football. There were no odors and the temperature was warm. I really liked that the doors to each room had a picture of the resident for a personal touch. The back patio was filled with leaves and there was a ladder and a water hose lying on the sidewalk just outside of the dining room. My guide took time to explain to me how securely the medications are monitored. The kitchen was very clean and the menu look ok, not quite as fresh as I'd want my loved one to have, but I'm sure it was fine. What I really liked is that they have regular wine and cheese tastings and tea parties as well as bingo games. I would recommend this facility for my grandma. "

"We visited Sierra Homes. There was this one lady who was very helpful, nice, and took us around to the apartments. It was a very nice facility. The one apartment we saw was very nice for independent living. "

"This facility was very upscale and the staff was very friendly. The rooms were clean and you could tell the staff knew what they were talking about. "

"Ferguson Home wasn't very nice or up to our standards. It was kind of run-down, and the people running the place were older. The staff who gave me the tour was great, he was nice and very helpful. It's just that they're elderly as well, so it's like an elderly person taking care of another elderly. We saw the dining area which was a little small. My husband saw the rooms during our tour, and he said there were two mattresses side by side. So it was a shared room and not a private room."

"They are just very friendly at Twilight Haven -- extremely helpful with the information they gave -- and have bent over backwards to accommodate any request we had for our parents. "
