"I went to Acoya Mesa. It's lovely. It's only five years old. Everything was very clean and neat. The people were friendly. We only met one person, the tour person. So I didn't see anybody else. She was very knowledgeable. The facility is beautiful. It's very nice."

"We toured Brookdale Baywood. They had a good restaurant. The rooms were clean. They were helpful. The food was excellent. They did a good job of cleaning the facility. They had good staff. The atmosphere was very congenial. The room size was average."

"Brookdale Springs Mesa was very nice. They sent me a lunch home with me, and it tasted good. They showed me a room that was being painted and no one was living there. Somebody had just moved out and it was alright. It was fine. I saw their dining room, their meeting room, their living room space, and there was a nice library. It was clean. The staff was very friendly."

"Discovery Point Retirement Community was contained in a big building and there were probably twice as many people. The people were very nice. The dining room was very nice. They had a nice exercise room with nice machines. They had everything you could want there. They had a nice chapel. I am Catholic, so they had kind of one that leaned toward that way. I like Discovery Point, and it would have been my second choice. As far as price, they were each about the same, I think. Everything was very nice and very clean. I praised it highly. It was a very nice building. As for the atmosphere, I felt fine there. It had very long hallways and stuff like that, but everybody had their door or entryway decorated. I was impressed."

"We went to Brookdale East Mesa. I liked it. The rooms are kind of small. They have their own private room, and I like that. My wife didn't like much of anything because she doesn't want to go. What I looked at was a room that had a TV, and everything was pretty well laid out. They didn't have a shower in the room, but I can fully understand why not because people may fall down or get hurt. Everything was clean and freshly painted. I think this building has been there for a while, but the outside was nice. The RN was the one that greeted us and took us through the place, and she was excellent. She answered my questions and did a fine job. It wasn't the most expensive, but it looked fine. They had wings where smaller groups ate together and stuff like that. I kind of like that idea instead of putting my wife in with a whole bunch of other people. So this would help with her needs and the way that she is. The people that we talked to were quite friendly, and the other staff members were doing a good job with it."

"I went to Brookdale East Arbor. The one thing that I liked was there were only 50 residents. And the rooms, they had a living room, a bedroom, and a bath. It was great. It all had windows that faced out into a yard. People were friendly. And it felt like you had gone home. It was a family residence. It was very beautiful. The landscaping was well done and they had a lovely patio, both on the north side and the east side where all the residents were. My husband and I spend a lot of time outside, so that was a plus for us."

"The Beehive Homes of Gilbert is a unique residence being 22 beds. The Beehive is small enough to offer personal care and attendance, while being large enough to offer aspects of a larger "community." It has proven to be perfect for my loved one. He is well cared for, I'd even say loved, by his caregivers and the rest of the staff. The staff is well trained. The management cares deeply about the workings of the residence and is hands on. The ratio of caregivers is good. The Activity Director has quite the variety of activities planned and gets the residents up and out to do, each at their level. The kitchen! Oh my, the kitchen is amazing! Chef Rodney offers breakfast to order, he bakes cookies and other deserts fresh every day, and he IS a chef. He serves the residents amazing meals that are well balanced, beautiful and varied. The Beehive lucked out when Chef Rodney came to work! Not everyone wants or needs a swimming pool, a tennis court, or a bus to go shopping. For residents who simply want to LIVE, to be cared for, the Beehive fits the bill perfectly. The Beehive is small, the Beehive is caring, the Beehive is a perfect place for my loved one."

"I went to Legacy Retirement Residence of Mesa. People were friendly. I know they had a happy hour and several came out and they were so excited for happy hour. They got juice, ice cream, and popcorn. They had a live band that was playing music for them. The elders were dancing. So if we wanted some activities, that would be the place to go. I know that they're renovating the facility to bring it up to date. The rooms were very nice and they were fairly large. They have one-bedrooms and two-bedrooms."

"My mother has moved into Savanna House Assisted Living & Memory Care. She's in assisted living. It's a 10 out of 10. The staff is amazing, trying, and patient. We love it and it's clean. The activities director is a 10, too. Her name is Kim, and there's always something going on. She has a one-bedroom attached to a patio on the courtyard. They have a putt-putt ball right out her door in the courtyard. It's a smaller facility, so it's more intimate. You get to know everybody in there. They have a library, a puzzle room, a bar for happy hours, which are on Thursdays and Fridays, and a movie room. The food is amazing. She loves it. For Father's Day, they're gonna have a big barbecue and a car show for the residents. The activity director goes above and beyond."

"I'm not interested in Whitestone Assisted Living. I feel like it's very dark and I'm not comfortable that the wellness director is only an LPN. It doesn't seem like there's very good medical oversight. The facility was nice and the villa was nice, but it felt like a nursing home, and I don't know that my dad would be comfortable leaving my mother there. I was not impressed with this community. I don't think that it was fairly priced. Whitestone was smaller and darker. The building not only looked older, but it smelled older. I wasn't able to interact with the staff because they were kind of just sitting around. When I went into one of the villas, one of the staff members was on her phone. The other staff member who we talked with was alert. He was very personable and pleasant, but the staff didn't seem to be engaged with the residents beyond just passing medications and performing activities of daily living with the residents. It felt a little disconnected to me. My mom would kind of be left on her own and left to her own devices. The building was old. The lady who toured us had a difficult time getting in and out of a secured gate. The gate was rusted and looked very old. It looked like it needed to be repaired. The rooms seemed distant. Their wellness director is an LPN, and she's distant. She's not connected and involved, so it made me very uncomfortable. I just felt like I would be putting my mom in a room and forgetting about her."

"The one that stood out was Copper Springs Retirement Community. It felt like home. It was newer than the other two places. It was very nice. It was like a 5-star experience. We felt like we were on a cruise ship. The only negative was - no pool. But everything else was nice. The place was very nice. They had a koi pond when you walked in, and it was very nice. The rooms were nice. But the cheapest room for both of us was ranging over $5200 to $5300 a month, which is a little above what we wanted to pay. However, the staff was very personable, professional, friendly, and very attentive to detail. She was probably the best one so far as being a tour guide."
