Adult Day Care Communities in Saint Louis Park, MN

"When my family first visited we were given a tour of certain floors, certain residential rooms, and activity areas. We all agreed that it was a good safe place for grandma. However after she was excepted we had to wait a week before visiting and when I went to visit she was sitting alone in the hallway and said she had been there for more than an hour by herself. The floor she was on had a stench of urine. She shared a room with another resident that she didn't get along with and somehow her dentures were lost.It was a horrible experience for my grandmother as well as the rest of my family. And it was almost impossible to re-place her in another facility because we had such strong complaints about previous. Not many other facilities wanted a family that was going to be so assertive about the way residents are cared for. Overall after visiting a few other homes I found that the first two floors are always the nicest and those are the ones that a family gets to tour. "

"My husband has advanced Parkinson's and has been attending Mt Olivet Day Services for ten years. The facility is clean, cheerful and spacious. The staff is wonderful and their turnover very low. Field trips, fun activities that provide physical and mental stimulation, guest speakers and entertainers, excellent meals and bathing are provided. The staff takes special care to communicate with the families of participants and to provide for the participants' special needs. Mount Olivet Day Services also includes a childcare component in the same building and there are many activities that bring the children and the "Grandmas and Grandpas" together. My husband and I regard this program as dear family. "

"My wife has Parkinson's. She also had a severe infection. She went into the hospital, and all of a sudden, her legs froze completely. She couldn't stand, and she couldn't walk, and so we could not get back into the assisted living place because they didn't have the lift that would be necessary to pick her out of the wheelchair. So she went into the nursing home at Catholic Eldercare on Main. They had given her different exercises to do, and within the last two months or so, she is able to walk with a walker again, she is able to get in and out of the car, and she can go to the bathroom by herself. She likes most of the nurses, and they get along very well. There are a couple that she doesn't get along with; however, I would say that's probably true in most places. She gets her meals delivered 2 or 3 times a day, and they take care of all of her medications that she has to take. They have different events going on. She is not that much of a joiner; she stays in her room most of the time watching television. There are other things that she can do if she is interested in doing them. The staff is okay with me. I get along with just about everybody there. They give her a shower. She waits for it every week, and she likes it. She can wash her hands and face, too. Cleanliness seems to be good. They seem to take care of the place well. They sweep the rooms every day. They wash their clothes for them, and they bring them back up to their rooms. They have taken care of all the necessities. Their food is really good. They have a good chef there. My wife likes just about everything they serve. It's nutritious. They have a list of what she doesn't like, so she doesn't get served that."

"Adult Day Program at MN Veteran's Home RN and social worker on the staff. Many different activities going on every day, daily exercise group, field trips, entertainment, movies with popcorn (recliner chairs, too), breakfast and lunch with nice area to eat lunch outside on nice days. Multiple activities of shorter duration (for those with shorter attention spans). The director is visible and interacts with the participants. Beautiful grounds and really nice old building. They offer spa bath weekly. Participants wear a sort of GPS device so staff knows where they are at all times- good safety measure for those with dementia. "

"Meadow Woods is a very nice facility. They have an assisted living unit, memory care unit, and nursing home. It is not a new building, but it is very well-kept. It is very nicely-decorated. They have a beautiful dining room, and a gathering space. The bedrooms are nice, and very adequate. My dad has two bedrooms, and a bathroom plus a big walk-in closet. Their food is excellent. They serve it restaurant style with nice tablecloths. It just looks very nice, and very homey. The staff is very pleasant, and is meeting his needs very well. They have outside entertainment that comes in at least once a week. They have bingo, and sedentary kinds of activities. They do have so much crafts, and other active kind of activities. They have morning exercise programs. Once a week, my dad goes to church for his communion because he is Catholic, and once a week, somebody comes in the facility to celebrate mass. They have a Lutheran Sunday service. The whole admissions process was very efficient, and very helpful. They were very willing to go out of their way to make sure that we could get in. They went above, and beyond with the assessments and requirements so he could get in immediately. They also provide a fairly high level of care like bathing, dressing, and med set up if that’s a need. "

"The Bentson Family Assisted Living Residence is part of Jewish Family and Children's Shalom Home services, located in St. Paul. The 1 and 2 bedroom apartments are very clean but they have somewhat of an institution like feeling more than a homey feel in my opinion. The resident I visited there said they liked the nursing staff and felt secure knowing they were available 24 hours in case of an emergency. The Jewish residents really appreciate the fact that they can get kosher food as part of 3 meals and snacks offered daily. The residents who I visited there said that they loved being able to schedule the van service, and also that they could get physical therapy on sight in the therapeutic warm pool. The local geographic area is considered average as far as crime reports, and the residents seem to really enjoy taking neighborhood walks. The staff seemed very friendly and accommodating."

"My sister is at Golden Living Comm Lake Ridge, and it's quite good. The staff is very capable and able to handle quite severe dementia. They have skills to cope with it, and we're quite happy. They have some music activities. The services of the staff is very good. My sister's room is a double room that's not large but is quite nice. "

"I wanted my parents near me, so I moved them to Arbor at Ridges. The staff are wonderful people. They are very caring and very nice. With the rooms, they bring their own furniture, it has a full kitchen, and they are very nice spaces. I tasted the food, and its OK; it's nice. They have many activities, and I don’t even know if I could name them all. I really like this facility, and I think my parents do too. "
