Adult Day Care Communities in Bloomington, MN

"I moved to The Glenn 2 years ago, long before I expected to need their services, but at 84, and with 8 children, I thought it best to decide "what shall we do with Mother" if I became unable to decide myself in the future. I do use the shuttle that seems to go somewhere every day. But I'm independent enough to use the city bus system to get anywhere I want to go. I can't say enough good things about the staff and the residents are friendly, going out of their way to befriend each other. I came here from Elk River (which now seems so far away) and delight in the closeness of theaters and events in Minneapolis-St Paul. The city of Hopkins has been a revelation to me. This tiny town has kept its small town feel yet has a movie, an art center with a theater for concerts and plays of all sorts, some really good restaurants, a full line grocery, a branch of the Hennepin County library and many antique and other retail stores. (Our building has its own library, too, with large-print books delivered by Hennepin Co every quarter and hundreds of our own books that residents are welcome to borrow. And it's open 24 hours a day!) There is a Catholic Church in Hopkins,too, but we have our own chapel where Mass is celebrated almost every day. Before I moved here I toured six other facilities and it was without a second thought that I chose The Glenn. "

"It's a wonderfull place for your parents to go They have so much to do do that before they know it time to go home I had many years since my three parents participated there and they had a ball socializing with people there age after my mom didn't go any more she keep asking when her day was that she went Staff care for them as they are there parents they do many fun outing All I can say check them out and you'll see"

"When my family first visited we were given a tour of certain floors, certain residential rooms, and activity areas. We all agreed that it was a good safe place for grandma. However after she was excepted we had to wait a week before visiting and when I went to visit she was sitting alone in the hallway and said she had been there for more than an hour by herself. The floor she was on had a stench of urine. She shared a room with another resident that she didn't get along with and somehow her dentures were lost.It was a horrible experience for my grandmother as well as the rest of my family. And it was almost impossible to re-place her in another facility because we had such strong complaints about previous. Not many other facilities wanted a family that was going to be so assertive about the way residents are cared for. Overall after visiting a few other homes I found that the first two floors are always the nicest and those are the ones that a family gets to tour. "

"My father was in Sholom Home West for rehab after being hospitalized. It was excellent, and it was a very positive experience for him. The staff was very contentious, knowledgeable, caring, and thorough. We were very impressed. It was better than other places that he's been in. His room was nice, and it was painted with a peaceful kind of soft blue, and the windows were very large, so that if he was in a wheelchair, he could still easily see out the window and see the view. He had a single room with wood floors. The dining room was small, but very nice. They did have bingo and different classes; for instance, he was able to take some classes and learn Yiddish because it was a Jewish facility. He also was able to participate in a choir and other activities like movie nights and concerts. He was really quite content there for the most part. It was a good place, and they were much more preferable than where he was before. "

"Bentson Family is a very nice, clean, and orderly place, but I didn't look at any rooms because no one was available to show when I walked in. Nevertheless, it was nice and pleasant. They had a small place where residents go and socialize. Residents enjoyed it. I wouldn't mind living there at all."

"I was impressed with Catholic Eldercare. It was very clean, had a lot of amenities, was in a great location, and staff that we met was very friendly. I liked that they had a restaurant right on-site. The dining area was very clean, very large, had very homey feeling, and was very comfortable. The room was spacious, very bright, and had large windows. "

"I found the development to be very well staffed for the amount of patients that were there. The patients received schedules for their daily activities, including time for activities such as occupational therapy, physical therapy, speech therapy, swimming, acupuncture, lunch, dinner, and more. I remember a couple patients had trouble reading and understanding their schedules, and also noticed the schedule sometimes was incorrect or not accurately communicated with me as a volunteer. With the exception of a few members of the staff, I did not feel very close or remembered with my weekly volunteering. Perhaps that was due to them having many volunteers, so I may have been seen as expendable. I was providing a lot of help to the patient however, so my time there was rewarding.The facility itself was magnificent. I was amazed with the building and with what was offered for disabled individuals. There are activities rooms with games, books and movies, common areas with television, laundry areas for those able and wanting to do their own, and a beautiful pathway to walk around outside with a quiet stream. The facility was well kept, clean, and well lit. Nursing staff seemed to always be readily available to patients and communicated with them on a friendly basis. "

"My sister is a resident of The Estates at Roseville. She's in memory care. It is very close to our family, so the location is wonderful. It's in a beautiful spot in Roseville. It's next to a lake and it's very close to Central Park where you can take your resident out or take a walk. It's close to shopping if your resident likes to get out for that. So, the proximity and the location to family and the things that she likes to do is perfect. I hesitate to give anything negative because I know that we've all just gone through a pandemic and I feel it's a little unfair for me to evaluate somebody based on a national crisis and how it changed the flow, but I would like to see it updated. I think they had started a redecorating project that just got put on halt during the pandemic. They couldn't let anybody in there. So, I'm hopeful that that will continue and kind of get everything kind of cleaned up and get new carpets and whatnot. I like it to look pretty, but I know it's in process. I'm hopeful that it will be updated soon. Their nursing staff is very friendly. They truly care about our residents. They have gotten to know my sister personally. They know what makes her happy and what's difficult for her. They help walk her through those tough days very eloquently and with kindness. However, with the pandemic, I know they've been challenged with staffing and you can feel that. When we first started in 2019, the staffing was different. You could move around the building more, you could get down to PT, and you had opportunities to go to more activities, but that just all shut down. Again, that's not their fault. It's just part of the pandemic that we've experienced. There are some activities, but my sister doesn't qualify to get out of memory care and they don't have the staff to bring her. They don't have that opportunity because their activities are outside or something. It's sometimes challenging to make sure that she has the proper supervision when she leaves the locked memory area. The place was a little bit cleaner when we first showed up because they had housekeepers, and their laundry service was a little bit higher quality because they had actual workers there. Like everything else, I can feel the strain on their system. The people that are left are just working super hard and they're doing the best job, but I feel like it needs to be cleaned up. If you flip back to the positive, that always outweighs the negative. They're just a beautiful group of people that truly care about residents, and they've got a lot of education in how to manage people with memory care issues. I can see them using different strategies very wisely. My sister's in an area that needs to be redone and it had started the process before the pandemic. The rooms are spacious, but they are double rooms. They have a beautiful view. Most rooms have a view from what I can tell of nature or a courtyard, the lakes, or just even kind of watching where the cars kind of drive by. It's kind of a peaceful little street. I think those areas are really beautiful. It's kind of tucked away in a little wooded area. The main dining area seems to be updated and fresh. I think the one in memory care is going to be that way soon, but it's not quite there yet. I think it's a good place for people to be, but it does need a little elbow grease. It needs a little help but I think it's coming up. We're anxious for everything to go back since the pandemic. She loves the food. Every single time I asked her, she said it's delicious, and so she's very, very happy with what they serve her."
