I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

My brother moved to Apple Valley Village's independent living community, and the staff members are very nice. He's in a 1-bedroom apartment. If somebody has a wheelchair or something, then the bathroom might be small. Other than that, I think it's a really nice setup, and the bedroom and the living room are a good size. There is room for a small kitchen table if you don't have the bar that comes up from the cupboard, where you can put two chairs in. He has a small, 36-inch round drop-leaf table, a loveseat, and a recliner in there. There's a little patio you can sit on outside where you can probably put at least two chairs and a little tiny table. The kitchen is set up really nicely, too. The microwave is above the stove and has sprinkler heads, so if you have a fire on your stove, it puts it out right away. They just redid that, and that's a nice feature. You can eat so many meals a month. For instance, we signed my brother up for 20 meals for supper. The residents go up to the fifth floor for that, and it's like going into a nice restaurant. They have all-white tablecloths and servers that come out to give you your food. In the lower level, they also have an area where they play a lot of cards and different things. There is a little deli-like place down there, too, where you can go and get breakfast, a sandwich, or something for lunch. They have a little room there that has shelf-stable groceries that residents can get. Let's say you need a can of tomato soup, then you'll probably find it down there. It's not really big, but at least you have some things there. I think they might even have bread. I know they don't have milk and eggs because they don't have a cooler system down there. They have a movie room with a big TV where you can go watch movies. They have some exercise equipment, like treadmills, that you can use while you watch a movie if you want. On the second floor, they have a library and an area with all kinds of books and puzzles. On the other end is an outdoor patio with tables and umbrellas out in the summer. They have a lot of stuff going on. I know that a couple of days a week, they have somebody who is a beautician or a barber who comes in. The residents have to pay on their own. They have a musical group, or they have time when they get together, and they sing old-fashioned songs, and a lady directs and plays the ukulele. They have outings every day to different places, and they always have something to do. When you first come in the door, there's a round table and a big chandelier up above. On either side, they have couches and chairs, like a lounge area where people can come and sit. Right behind that table, they have their front desk, and it's pretty big and open. Behind that are the elevators to go up and down. Everything that you do as a group, like going to eat your meals or going downstairs and going on any of the floors, is centered around the elevator. They have a laundry area there, so you can do your own laundry, or, like some people, you can have it done. They don't have it individually in the apartments.

I visited this facility

My mother and I like Apple Valley Villa. I like the amenities that they have available for her, which include the meals. The apartments are nice and all had big balconies. The staff members I met were awesome.

I visited this facility

Apple Valley Villa was a little older than some of the other ones that we visited, but it has connected facilities for more medical care than the others. It was almost like a nursing home, or it could be like a nursing home at times if you needed that. It had a good healthcare staff, and the other big plus was it was less expensive than the others that we looked at. The rooms or apartments were adequate although the building itself was an older building. I think the Apple Valley Villa is a little more focused on the medical part of the assisted living than any of the others. They’ve got transportation to some of the local shopping, and they probably all have this, but the Apple Valley Villa has this “I’m OK” check which is a daily thing. It has a deli and a convenience store, and there is a chapel. We have some concerns for my wife’s Parkinson’s disease and what help she might need in the future and also that it is the most affordable.

I am/was a resident of this facility

I've been staying at Apple Valley Villa for five years now. My stay there has been fine. All of the people working there are very good. I have a one-bedroom apartment with a living room, a bathroom, and a bedroom. It has its dining room and lots of activities. They show movies and have various activities people can participate in. We normally go to the theater. It is hard to find a better location. I mean, you are right next to a clinic. They have a rehab place, s, I can almost make it to the clinic from my apartment without going outside. There are a lot of grocery stores and restaurants nearby. Everything is right next to us or either very close to us. It is very handy for couples. If one of them ends up in the rehab, they can go visit anytime they want to without going outside.

I am a friend or relative of a resident

I am very happy with my parents' apartment at Apple Valley Villa and the people that work there. I think the food is really very good. They have a swimming pool, and they have like water aerobics classes, then they have movie nights, Bingo, reading circles, and a beautiful library. They have five open computers that are huge, an outdoor living space for dining that sits at least 70 to 80 people, a 25-foot long x 4-foot wide deck for themselves, and a deli and a grocery store that is open. They've got classes that they can take, a chapel that is very lovely, and a hair salon. They have a two-bedroom, two-bath apartment with a kitchen, and they probably have 1100 sq. ft., so it is really way more room than they had and about $800 to $900 less than the last place. I would suggest more guests' parking because they don't have enough guests' parking.

I visited this facility

The couple that I took to Apple Valley Villa liked it. It is an older facility, but spacious, and everything looked good. The staff were friendly and informative. I observed bingo, some music playing, some watching movies, and cards.
