Continuing Care Retirement Communities Communities in Apple Valley, MN

"I am thinking of moving to Amira Choice Bloomington. It's brand new, it's upscale, it's very nice. The staff was very friendly and they have a lot of activities. It just seemed to be a nice place that I would be happy at. There's an exercise room on every floor, they also have garbage and recycling on every floor. I will have my own balcony, which is a considerable size, my own laundry facilities, and big walk-in closets. I just met the receptionist, because this place is manned 24 hours so there's always somebody there. And she was a young girl, but very, very friendly and outgoing, and the sales manager is a very outgoing young guy too. I also met the recreation director and they were very nice. It all looked very nice because it's brand new. But they had lots of places where you could sit and visit with somebody else, or be by yourself if you want to, so you didn't have to stay in your unit."

"My mother moved into Timber Hills last week. It's very friendly and cooperates with my request. Her apartment is bright, brightly decorated, spacious, it's a one- bedroom. Big windows. Comfortable temperature, you control your own temperature. We got a new carpet, new painting when we moved in, so that made it nice. I saw that they have a chapel. So church service is on Sunday. There's one lady who plays piano. I think she just volunteers, I think she lives there, so every once in a while, I hear her playing the piano. The other day, they had somebody from outside, it was a younger guy, maybe junior high. I let him in and I saw that he was supposed to be playing the piano. I see him playing games like bingo and Jeopardy. So I see a lot of things going on, a lot of activities. One day they were taking a bus to some restaurant outside. Upkeep and maintenance were really good. The care that we get and the amenities are worth the price."

"My mother was at Friendship Village of Bloomington. She was there for rehab. It is a new facility, it's beautiful, and it's terrific. The room was fairly big. The staff was good. They had meetings once a week or once every other week. Now and then you could catch somebody and ask them how she was doing. Finally, in the end, they said, "She's got about ten days and she'll be out of here." I had ten days to get her up and moving. The staff was all friendly except for the social worker she had. She didn't communicate very well. She was supposed to be calling you back but she never did. They didn't have too many activities because it's a nursing facility. They just stayed in their rooms. She had a broken or cracked leg, so she didn't do much. She had physical therapy and occupational therapy. The food looked good. However, they gave her spinach, it is a big leaf and nobody bothered cutting things up for her, so she had to figure out how to eat it herself or eat it with her fingers. That's kind of a crummy way to eat a salad. They didn't serve it according to people who needed help. It was all under insurance so it didn't cost me anything, but after that, it was going to be $203 a day."

"We liked The Waters of Edina. It was very spacious; but when you get into the memory care area, you would not know. The hallways were very minimal. There's a wide open space in the middle. It's very welcoming and well appointed with furniture and very bright. It's just like daylight in there compared to a hallway. The staff was very knowledgeable. The room was a decent and workable size. They had a calendar of stuff like everybody else. There was a big room and big bathroom, and it very easily accommodated somebody with a walker or a wheelchair. Everything was in this unit, if you will. All the housing fit off this main big area. You didn't feel like you were being stuck in a room. They had an outdoor patio area. They had all the amenities there."

"Everything is good at Summit Place Senior Campus, except my parents didn’t like the food. The apartment is nice, with a bedroom and a den. The staff are good. I like the fact that my parents are safe in this facility. "

"The Willows At Vernon Terrace of Edina was very nice, open, and friendly. It's so handy to everything and very well-located. They have a lot of activities. They don't have a pool, but they have exercise rooms, card-playing rooms, a library, a salon, a bus that takes them wherever they need to go and on trips. There's a lot of good qualities, and the staff is good and very nice. They didn't return calls very quickly, but they responded very well otherwise. They've got caregivers on staff, and they're very good in getting them to their appointments if their family isn't available. "
