My father’s caregivers are awesome. He has 3 different caregivers that come on different days and they are wonderful. My mother enjoys them too. She loves talking to them about all kinds of things. They engage with her and seem to enjoy her company. They are there for my father, but my mother gets a lot of attention from them, and she loves it.
They always arrive on time, they do a great job of keeping us informed if there are any concerns. If we ask them anything they are very responsive.

Sandy was very flexible with scheduling house, whether it was for short term or 24 hour care. Her response time was speedy in emergency needs. When my mom was in rehab, one of Sandy’s caregivers showed up unexpectedly to check on her!
Sandy listened very carefully to what I had to say. She would allow me to vent and would listen to my suggestions. She would not only care for my mother, but also cared for my family and I. We were blessed to have her and the care and love they showed my mom made a huge difference. They are just good people!

My mom has been a resident at First Choice Care since 2014. When she moved in she was bed-ridden and suffering with diabetes and depression. In less than a month her blood sugar numbers were way down as she became more active and all signs of depression had basically disappeared. The care manager Pauline is awesome and my mom loves her, and caregivers Agnes and Eunice are very patient and compassionate with her and take her care very seriously which motivates my mom to want to follow the care plan. When I was first contemplating placing my mom in First Choice Care, the owner, Daniela told me my mom would become family, and that is truly how my mom feels about First Choice Care. My moms experience with First Choice Care has been invaluable. It is truly her home.

Financial Assistance for Home Care in Redmond, WA
Given the high cost of in-home care, many people use one or more forms of financial assistance to cover the expenses. Below, we explain some of the most common sources of financial help for paying for in-home care. If none of these options are available to you, you can reach out to your Area Agency on Aging or Aging and Disability Resource Center to learn about local resources.
- Long-Term Care Insurance: Long-Term Care Insurance covers expenses related to senior care, including in-home care. Depending on the policy type, beneficiaries may receive a cash payment to use towards long-term care or reimbursement for qualifying long-term care expenses. Note that there are limitations- typically a maximum benefit of $150 per day- and exact coverage terms vary depending on the exact policy, so always check the details.
- Medicare: Medicare does not cover in-home care because it is classified as custodial, or non-medical, care. However, some Medicare Advantage and Medicare Supplement plans, which offer expanded benefits, may cover in-home custodial care.
- Medicaid: Medicaid coverage of in-home care varies between different states because it is not a federally mandated benefit. Currently, all states cover some in-home care either through their standard Medicaid or a waiver program. The specific coverage rules are set individually by each state.
- Veterans’ Benefits: The Aid and Attendance benefit is a monthly cash payment that beneficiaries can use to pay for senior care, including in-home care services. To qualify for A&A, Veterans must already receive the VA pension and meet several additional requirements, including needing assistance with the activities of daily living.Contact the Department of Veterans Affairs to learn more.
- Reverse Mortgages: Home Equity Conversion Mortgages (HECMs) are federally insured loans that are available to homeowners age 62 and over. Reverse mortgages allow you to access a portion of your home’s equity in cash, tax free. Many seniors use reverse mortgages to finance their care expenses, including in-home care. Note that although there are no monthly payments due on reverse mortgage loans, borrowers do have to repay the loan once the last surviving homeowner passes away, moves, or sells the home.

Frequently Asked Questions
What should I look for in a good home care agency near me in Redmond, WA?
Look for a quality agency that provides the services you need and examine the staff training requirements to determine the level of expertise. Check with your insurance coverage to determine what’s covered and if the services are affordable. Finally, get recommendations from your health care provider, medical care team or friends who’ve used home care in the past. A good home care agency will be accredited by a nationally recognized group, should have Medicare certification and carry a state license.
What is the difference between in-home care and home health care?
In-home care helps seniors with activities of daily living and personal care, including assistance with grooming, bathing, medication reminders, meal prep and light housekeeping. Home health can offer the same services but also provides skilled care from trained nurses and medical providers, including pain management, injections, physical, occupational and speech therapy and wound care.
How do you pay for senior care at home?
Unless you have long-term care insurance that pays for home care, the majority of home care is paid for out-of-pocket. Seniors may use annuities, retirement income, investments and savings, life insurance policies, reverse mortgages and even home equity loans.
Assisted living homes vs. home care: how to decide?
Assisted living is a residential care facility that combines housing, support services and limited health care when needed. Home care allows seniors to remain in their own homes or within the community and receive care. Some assisted living facilities are more community-oriented than others so it helps to do some investigation to get a feel for the living arrangements.
What to expect with hospice care at home?
Hospice provides medical support and care for individuals with terminal illnesses when a cure isn’t an option. In-home hospice includes regular visits from a care team with the goal of keeping the patient comfortable. It involves pain management and addressing immediate needs. In-home hospice also provides bereavement care to family members.
