Home Instead provides in-home care services for my husband. He has to be bathed and dressed. We basically need somebody in the home to do light housekeeping like washing, changing his bed, cleaning his wheelchairs, and that type of thing. They try very hard to meet our needs and find a person who is able to take care of my husband, but they said they lost a lot of workers with COVID because people didn't want to work going in homes and so forth. They're trying to build up their staff again. Tomorrow, we're having a new gal who we never had before. We've not had a caregiver for longer than a month. We're probably on the fourth one now. It's just not consistent. It's disconcerting. My husband been paraplegic for 13 years now, so we're used to getting a get a good care worker and that you really love. After two or three years, they go on to something better or just leave the business.

Home Instead worked extremely hard during these challenging staffing times to get my family the caregivers needed while our family member was ill, and then in hospice. The caregivers were professional, prompt, dependable, attentive to the needs of their patient and family. Home Instead has been a very professional home care agency to do business with. My husband had a major abdominal surgery about 2 months ago. We had a caregiver assigned for 30 hours per week. Duties included medication reminders, preparing lunch, taking daily walks, changing bed linens, light household tasks and most of all companionship. Our caregiver has a lovely personality and easily fit into our household. She is always on time and hasn’t called in sick once. Also, she cleans doorknobs, handles and countertops with disinfecting wipes both upon arrival and departure. She always wears a fresh KN95 mask. I highly recommend Home Instead as they did a great job staffing and making sure we were happy and on a healing path.

Only a few caregivers sent were qualified. Nearly all had no adequate training. Home Instead wanted family members to train the “professionals” on transfers, diaper brief changes, and cleanliness. Many had no problem taking the liberty in looking at personal enclosed documents such as bank records, eavesdropping on private conversations among family to report back to the office, and helping themselves to food, paper towels and toilet paper. It’s a good agency if you want a caregiver to simply sit in a chair watching their cell phone.

This is the kind of service you would want for yourself. I've been a client for about a year-and-a-half and I can say nothing but good about these people. Nicole comes Monday through Friday, and is just a saint. My cats and I look forward to her arrival every morning. First the cats are fed. Their undying devotion is contingent upon being well fed in a prompt manner! Next is one of the best parts of the day: good coffee and pleasant conversation! While I eat my breakfast ( she's a great cook!) she takes care of all the household chores that need tending to. Finally, she will either run about town doing errands for me, or collaborate on some yummy dinner for me. Before she leaves she will give me my lunch and make sure I take my meds. The staff support is excellent as well. Any time I've needed them they were prompt and got right on it. Did I mention that everyone that works there is really pleasant? The caretaker Jennifer was extremely professional and kind to my Mom, she took care of all her needs while I went out for 4 hours a day fir personal time and errands she helped her with bathroom hygiene and midday snacks, crafts and coloring adult books ,also watched her favorite TV shows Was very patient with her Dementia symptoms and kept her busy or let her nap. I really liked her vivacity and positive attitude and professional knowledge of the intricacies of this difficult illness. I really hopeful to get her next time we get more respite grants.

Home Instead has been amazing with my parents and, given that we don't live nearby, we are completely relying on this company for their care (especially during the Shelter-in-Place). Mom was hospitalized recently and they stepped up to make sure my dad wasn't alone all night for several nights. Caregivers are wonderful, care managers communicate with us when needed, caregivers spot concerns that need attention. Gloves and other sanitation supplies have shown up as needed, even though they are hard to find these days. Highly recommend them!

My mom is not a good fit for a care home, so we have caregivers from Home Instead. The care and services that they are giving is outstanding. They meet every contingency. My mother has a number of issues because she is in a hospice care and suffering from ALS. Their ability to adapt to the changing situation is good because her decline has been pretty steady, and she has a number of medications that have to be applied that the hospice people measure out and the Home Instead people can actually give her. They have to give it according to instructions, which they follow. They cook for my mom and are very flexible with that because my mom’s ability to swallow has deteriorated, so they have gone from the semi-soft diet to a soft diet. It is hard taking care of my mom 24 hours a day. It is not an easy task at this point in time. Her ability to walk has deteriorated to the point where she almost has to be wheeled everywhere. It has been a rough go, but they have been outstanding, and they are very nice people. My mom likes them. There are two different ladies providing help at this point. It works out very nicely, but it is not cheap. The schedule and billing process is OK. They bill every two weeks, and we set it up so it can be taken out of a dedicated account.

Before my Father passed away, he was a client of Home Instead in Nevada City, CA. My Father's wish was to remain in his home during his illness and to die at home. With the help of Home Instead we were able to fulfill his wishes. Since my Dad's wife was no longer capable of giving him competent care, Home Instead stepped in to provide competent and caring Caregivers on a 24 hour basis for the last two months of Dad's life. I live in Seattle and could not be with my Dad on a daily or even routine basis, it was a blessing to have Home Instead provide Caregivers for my Dad. For the last week of his life I was able to be with him in addition to having J. from Home Instead assist me with all his caregiving needs. J. was a Godsend. I could not have managed without her. She taught me how to care for his physical needs without causing him further pain. She showed me how to make him more comfortable. She was compassionate and caring and very understanding. I am so grateful that J. from Home Instead was there to help our family at this very difficult time.

So far it's all been really good with Home Instead. They were quick to find someone for us. We have two different caregivers for my father. They're very good. My father loves them.

Honestly

The only caregiver sent was not only untrained for caregiving (she shared that her only experience was selling wheelchairs) but she needed the money so took a personal care position. She was with us for 2 weeks, after day 2 we knew she would not be a good match, my numerous calls to get a replacement were ignored. A person cannot do a good job if continually worried about getting water on themselves when giving a shower or helping a patient with their balance if they wear inappropriate clothing/shoes = highheeled boots,low cut/reviling tops, and fancy skirts. One day my husband and I saw her washing dishes in water with food floating in - frankly it looked like the garbage disposal backed up Since kitchen hygene is a major issue with us - we believe the looks on our face told her we would not want her back again. Since the office was closed we figured we'd wait until the next morning to call the case manager & give one last chance to change the caregiver to someone with professional knowledge/experience However to my surprise later that night, without so much as asking to hear our side of the events - which would have included our previous requests for a different caregiver - we were received a call informing us we were no longer able to receive services due to the caregiver's lies..Apparently she called Home Instead and told them we asked her to work directly for us. OMG the mere thought of her washing dishes in garbage turns our face green & turns our stomaches.. What a joke- we were NEVER giving a chance to explain what occurred from our standpoint, nor was she trained in caregiving nor dressed appropriately to perform her duties, nor remind the case manager that on day 3 we called & asked for a replacement - the fact she would not work out was completely obviously by day 2, yet we were dropped - although the company's written rules state a client will not be discriminated against for complaining (asking for another caregiver) yet that is just what happened. FYI - apparently only staff can contact the case manager after hours, thus our receiving a call at 9 pm that night from the case manager. Some much for non-discrimination or fair judgement. Their decision wasnt even based on their knowing the caregiver longer than us - unless the fact she started the day before she came to my home as sufficient time to make a character judgement?
