We have two caregivers that are each at our home two days a week. They have different styles and personalities but both are committed to making the best of each day with my wife. They are professional, engaging, and are both bright spots in our lives. They not only provide caregiving while here, but have helped me see ways in which I can be a primary caregiver when they are not here. Working with Home Instead has made a big difference. They are responsive to our needs, and check back in on a regular basis to see how things are going. They are a source of suggestions for strategies and activities to deal with the ever-changing life we are experiencing. I have nothing but the highest praise for the La Mesa Home Instead office on Jackson Drive. The entire office staff is highly professional and they went out of their way to ensure that my caregiver needs over the past year were met using exceptionally well-qualified caregivers. They were extremely flexible in modifying my schedule on a number of occasions in order to accommodate short term caregiver changes I had to make due to such things as appointments and overnight guests. But the best feature of all in dealing with this office is the quality of the caregivers themselves who are sent out to take care of my wife, an Alzheimer’s patient. They have all been highly professional and work with her on activities to help keep her as mentally and physically active as possible. For example, they’ll take her for walks, play simple games and work on a wide variety of craft projects. My wife considers them her friends and enjoys each of their visits. I have never hesitated to leave the house with a Home Instead caregiver here because I’m confident my wife is receiving the care and attention she needs.

My mother needed a companion and helper. She needed someone to help remind her to take her meds, eat and help her with her personal grooming needs. Our family wanted someone friendly and caring. Her caregiver does all that and takes her on walks to help her with her mobility. It is such a relief knowing we have someone we can count on to nurture our mom when we can’t be there.

Home Instead has had quality caregivers and they support their own staff. They go out of their way to make sure my mom is happy with the care she’s getting. A bonus my mom can be difficult and on occasion has liked the personality of a care giver and Home Instead was very professional in handling the situation, bottom line not all people are a great match so it can make it awkward but they handled it wonderfully and right now my mom has 3 different staff and looks forward to when there at her house it keeps her busy and gives her different people to talk too. The is an incredibly responsive agency. They do their utmost to make sure their caregivers are a good "fit" for our needs. My husband, who has advanced Parkinson's, requires full assistance in his activities of daily living. The staff always arrives on time. As I retired social worker I know how difficult it is to find good caregivers. I would highly recommend Home Instead to other families who are doing their utmost to keep their loved ones at home.

This is the 3rd caregiving company we have worked with over the past year and is definitely the best. Mom has caregivers 4 hours twice a day to help with personal care, physical therapy, making meals, and ambulation. They seem to be an organized office with dedicated staff that cover specific critical areas (e.g., HR, staffing, billing, etc). There is a significant focus on education and training of caregivers for caregiving activities as well as medical knowledge for commonly encountered diseases of the elderly. They work hard to match caregivers to the medical and physical needs of the client as well as personality fit. When a new caregiver is assigned, they always shadow another caregiver so there is at least some introductory crossover. There have been very few issues but when they happen, they are addressed very quickly and compassionately.

I would hire them all the time but for me the cost is prohibitive. Its so much better than scrambling around trying to make sure the care situation is covered so I can work. I had a grant that covered 60 hours and I was really bummed when the hours were used up.

I am bed bound and have severe rheumatoid arthritis,so I require help with a bed bath as well as various other personal care. My care giver is fabulous and I look forward to his visits! He is reliable and almost always on time. If there is a delay in his arrival I always am notified in advance! We hired Home Instead Senior Care because they seemed like they're very interested, it was a small group -- like a mom and pop organization -- and the money aspect as well. They're very caring, and they seemed to love my father. It's not just some formal thing they do. They tend to spoil him. We've been using them for about a year now.
