I really liked the staff at The Harbor at Renaissance. I particularly liked their interaction with the residents. They have a lot of staff on board all day long, and their interactions with the residents were wonderful to see, and that was why I picked them. The care that he would get from the staff people was the most important consideration for me. They have a wonderful activities program for the residents. They actually have a little men's club. They've found that the men are probably, or seemed to be, more interested in some things versus the women. So they have a specific activity-based program just for men. And I thought that was interesting. They have a resident dog, which I like. I just really like the place. It was very comfortable, it was far and away the best place I visited, with all the considerations I have in mind.

I met the director of The Harbor at Renaissance. She was most helpful, accommodating, and most informative. She was very patient with my questions and gave answers that I could understand. She also gave me her card and a folder. She was very helpful showing me around. They were very upfront about fees. I think the only negative thing about the place was (it's a personal feeling though) that the building was a long one story building and the residents were divided into two sections. The center is where everything is. In other words, imagine a long building with two connected long halls with the center being where they meet for dinner or lunch or breakfast. There's another side room where they can sit around. The residents there had memory issues; therefore, there wasn't a lot of interaction that I saw. I wanted to see the courtyard. There was one woman that wanted to get out of the yard, but she couldn't because somebody had to come with her. She had to be accompanied by somebody, and there wasn't anybody that was going to do that at that time. She was prevented from going out there for safety reasons (which is good because safety is always something you always worry about). The director was very caring with the resident who was trying to get out into the garden. She gently worked with her to get her refocused. They also have an activity room, a dining room (which also serves as another activity room for a bigger group), and a transportation bus for when they go on field trips. They have a separate shower, so the bathroom that comes with the room has a sink and a toilet. There were no funky smells. Things were generally neat, considering you have dementia residents.

We chose The Harbor at Renaissance for mom. When we went and took a tour, we just felt very comfortable and at ease with the facilities and the staff so we chose it for mom. She hasn't been there very long but they seem good about keeping us involved and letting us know how she's doing and adjusting. They asked us to leave her there for at least two weeks before we came to visit, and then during that time, she contacted COVID. So far we've had very positive interactions. It's very nice, the staff is nice and the room is adequate. The cost seems pretty comparable with other places.

My dad has been in The Harbor at Renaissance for about a month now. The staff is very professional. They're very responsive to his needs, they're very organized as far as his medications go, and they really keep a close tab on his needs, so I really appreciate that. The place is awesome. The first time we went in just for the intake, it was clean. They're constantly keeping up the place so that it's clean and disinfected. When we visit him, we don't go in. We visit him by the window, and that's how we see him, but that's OK; we have to respect that.
