This is a review for NHC's skilled nursing. The facility as a whole (and specifically including the patient rooms) are showing their age and wear. Dietary options are limited. Food quality is poor and tasteless. Food service to skilled nursing rooms was handled extremely poorly. For instance, frequently leaving off requested menu items entirely or presenting food items that did not match selections marked on the provided menus; meal trays delivered in untimely manner resulting in cold, inedible meals; dirty silverware provided with meals; or foods that did not meet the patient's prescribed food consistency type. The level of care provided by nursing staff was inadequate as was the amount of coverage provided (although I'm sure it met the minimum required standard). Two agency nurses that were filling in during my loved one's stay were rude and disrespectful. Other NHC nurses were dismissive and demeaning of patients and family members. There are not adequate descriptors for the abominable tech staff. My loved one (who was bed-bound and unable to self-toilet) was frequently left laying in wet/soiled briefs for extended periods of time and consequently developed bed sores due to neglect by staff. My loved one left NHC in far worse condition than upon admission. Another example of the level of service provided: one morning upon entering the room I discovered a feces soiled adult diaper staff had left on the hospital table from which my loved one ate meals. There were repeated, daily examples of the NHC bottom line: making profits--at the apparent expense of cutting corners in care. This seemed to be the only thing that matters at NHC Sumner Place. And the most shocking and abhorrent part is that this facility is reputed to be "one of the best" in this area for skilled nursing care. Absolutely shocking and morally unacceptable!! I provided only one star since I was unable to give negative star ratings. If you have a loved one going to NHC for skilled nursing I certainly hope that you have someone to stay there with them around the clock to ensure that even the most rudimentary care is provided.
