The first thing that one notices when they enter Our Lady of Peace is Main Street, a long hallway with a high arching ceiling and a floor that mimics the colors and patterns of a cobblestone road. There is a little bistro near the entrance where anyone, including visitors, can get a bite to eat, and I found the food to be delicious and the staff to be quite friendly. A bit further down Main Street was a sizeable chapel that could comfortably seat all of the residents at once. Living units in the facility are called "households" with ten residents per household. Each woman has her own room, and each household shares a private kitchen, dining room, and lounge. Lunch is served for all residents in the main dining room, but residents in the assisted living section are responsible for breakfast and dinner, as the staff believes strongly in residents maintaining autonomy and independence in whatever ways their cognitive and physical abilities allow them.
