Nursing Home Communities in Vestal, NY

"My husband moved into UHS Senior Living at Ideal. I like, and he likes, the people, the nurses, and the staff. They're very caring. They are attentive and will answer any questions that you have. They're just friendly, and they do very well with their patients. The food, he likes some of it. There are certain things he's not interested in, but he eats the food. It's very clean, and the structure of the building is very easy to access. They have ample parking for visitors. They're more than welcoming when you go into the facility. The floors are secure, so there's no need to worry about someone entering who shouldn't be there. My husband doesn't participate, and he's not into those things, but they have bingo and ladder ball, and they have something different every day. There are some single rooms, and there are some double-size rooms. My husband's currently in a double, and there's plenty of room for a chair, a bed, and a dresser, so there's ample room for whatever he has. I chose UHS Senior Living at Ideal because we're very close to it. It's only about a 10-minute drive from me. So, it was convenient."

"We went to United Methodist Homes Hilltop Campus Johnson City. The girl who gave the tour was very kind to take us through a place that had just been vacated. They had just refurbished it for the next person coming in, so it was empty. We got to see how nice they are, two-bedroom, two-bath, full kitchen, everything. And it's got an attached garage. That's what we most wanted, the attached garage. The girl was very good. She was very knowledgeable and very courteous. She knew what she was talking about. And we had gone there a couple of times, and she was very good to greet us again and remembered us. So that was a plus. I like the idea that they have a newsletter, which they put out and gives you all your activities for the day, the month, and the year. And, we like it because it's in a place just above where our doctors and hospitals are located. So, it would be easy. We're both above 80, so it would be a good place for us to get to an emergency quickly or conveniently, especially in the winter here because the winters are so bad with the snow. We have to have someplace we could get to in the snow."

"Good Shepherd Village was a good fit for me and my husband. The staff was very pleasant and just was a good fit for us. The room was very pleasant. Stores are close by, and they take you to the doctors. They do the basics, usually what other places do. It's more out of the city. It's out in the country, but it's close to Wegmans grocery store, which they take you to, but you make an appointment. I saw all three levels. There's a nursing home. First, we're going into independent, and then if we need other levels, we can go forward. The facade of the facility was very good, and it was clean."

"I visited Elizabeth Church Manor with my son and daughter-in-law and loved it. Both of the buildings were so clean, so neat, and so welcoming. I wish I could move in there tomorrow. There were several shared rooms, but at 82, I don’t want to share a room with anyone. They were all clean, spacious, and neat. I kept asking my son, “Have you filled the application yet? Have you heard anything?” because if I had my way, I’d be there this minute. The staff was very nice, but I didn’t have that much contact because we went there and took a tour on a Sunday. The people I saw were very nice. There was a chapel, which impressed me, and, as far as I know, it was available for people to go in anytime of the day. I do a lot of needlework and there was a whole room set up with large tables not too far from the room that I hope I will be getting. I was very impressed. "

"The Good Shepherd Fairview Home was my aunt's first choice because she had been to Good Shepherd before, after hospitalization, for a short term stay, and she loved it there. However, they had no openings for her this time. It was an excellent facility. The staff was wonderful. They were very enthusiastic, caring, and concerned about her. They were always encouraging her to do things, and getting involved in things. It really promoted her recovery. They had a book library, and they had a library that came around to the residents, and they had a regular library that you could go to, too. And my aunt is an avid reader, so that was good for her. She could have her cat there. That was a tremendous advantage, and that's one thing she loved about them. They had bingo and games, arts, cards, and putting together puzzles. I saw the food, I saw her eat very well, and she's a picky eater. The cost was really decent, it was less than a lot of other facilities."

"THERE HELP AND COMPASION DURING THIS TRYING TIME FOR MY DAD WAS OVERWHELMING.ESPECIALLY AT THE END.THEY WERE THERE WITH US WHILE MY DAD PAST AWAY EVERY MOMENT MAKING SURE ALL HIS NEEDS WERE MEANT. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THEM "

"Sayre Health Center provides total care. Mother is in a private room and it's beautiful. It isn't just a nursing home, it's for rehabilitation and all sorts of things they have people in for. The Alzheimer's and dementia patients are right in with the regular population which is what I like because that keeps her more active and she will cope to these normal people as well. The food is pretty good. I've had the food myself. The staff is very good and very helpful as far as I can see. If anything happens, they always notify me immediately and if they can't get me they call one of my other brothers or my sister. They're very quick to respond. If I have a question, they call me back right away. They have cookies and coffee during the day. They also have a snack cart that comes around in the afternoon. They quite often have popcorn night or movie night with popcorn. They really do a nice job, I think, much better than the other place that we were in but with a different setup. They have lots of groups that come in for singing, band concerts, choral concerts and country western bands. They have trips to the casino, trips to the mall and trips to see the Christmas lights. They have bingo and book club. I like the place. My whole family is quite happy with it. "

"My mom was at the Elderwood at Waverly and we had a fair experience with them. The communication with the staff was really, really good, but the thing that complicates everything is the virus. In a rehab facility you should be able to go out, use equipment, and things like that, but it was a little bit more limited because things weren't available for the people. They didn't have any activates because of the virus and they couldn't bring them out of their rooms or anything like that. The food was fair and the facility was a little dated; it could use some work. Safety wise they were very safe, they didn't even let me into the building. I understand that, I do appreciate it too, because she wasn't infected."

"the best care I have ever seen in a memory unit. The staff and cna's are top knotch and very caring and compassionate. The activities staff keep the residents engaged and provide and all round family atmosphere. I cannot say enough good about this facility. My mother was there over a year and I also was very present on a daily basis and saw much. "

"This facility is very poor. The majority of time, the nurses do not do anything but distribute meds. They utterly refuse to answer call buttons. They employ CNA's, but the ratio of patients to one CNA is 18 patients. Ashton has a repeatedly not paid their cable bill, which means the residents do not get to watch TV. CNA's are told to lie to the patients and tell them the cable is out. The dinner time has been changed to a later time for the convenience of the staff, not the patients. Some patients are forced to go to the dining room to eat instead of being able to chose if they would like to stay in their room and watch a TV program. CNA's are harassed and ad are not supported by the nursing staff. This facility needs to be audited and investigated. "
