Nursing Home Communities in Oxford, NY

"New York State Veterans' Home at Oxford was a very beautiful place. It's got everything there. They have a doctor, they have a podiatrist that comes in, they have a dentist that comes in, and they have a large therapy room and large hallways. They have like pods. There's a desk where the staff is and an eating area, and then they have the rooms that are in that pod. They have a lot of activities in their large auditorium, like bingo, cornhole, and painting. It was a very nice community. The administration is mainly what we dealt with, but then we saw nurses in the hallway, we saw aides in some of the rooms, and then we saw the therapists in the therapy room."

"My husband is at Oxford Veterans Home. We chose it because it was the nicest facility, and it had the most staff of any we looked at. It was also the least expensive, so it ticked all the right buttons. It was perfect. I like the fact that it is fully staffed. I like the caring personnel. I like the fact that on the day he was taken in, everything went perfectly and quickly. They gave information on how to ease him in gently, and it worked. It is a hard thing to do, but it went well. The staff members are very caring and patient. They call them by name. They know who they are. They know the visitors who are coming, and they know our names, too. They do their jobs very well. Of the places we looked at, this was one of the two that had no unpleasant odor in the facility. That's a huge thing for us who are looking for somewhere to place our loved ones. I've also only eaten one meal there, and my meal was excellent. That was on the day of admission, and it was a good meal. I enjoyed it. The place is clean and shiny. There is sun everywhere. They have a cat for the patients and the visitors to pet and see. The cat is a huge bonus as far as I'm concerned. Landscaping is gorgeous, too. My husband has been there just short of two weeks now. He has adjusted to being there, and they are beginning to find out what he is capable of and what he wants to do, so he will not be sitting there doing nothing."

"My father spent over three years there and was there until he died. The staff is caring and supportive. The new facility is wonderful. I never once felt I had done my father a disservice with having him be a resident there. "

"The staff is super friendly and helpful. Residents seem happy and have many things to do throughout the day, thanks to the activities staff. Nursing is well organized and overall a great place!!! I'm so happy I brought my family member to this facility, she made so many friend in such short amount of time! "

"The overall appearance and cleanliness of this facility was fantastic; as well as the atmosphere. The patient rooms were spacious, and comfortable. The staff which I interfaced with included: front desk, nurses, aides, doctors, maintenance and those who worked in the kitchen/cafeteria. All of which were pleasant, friendly and knowledgeable in their specific areas of profession. Most of my interaction was with the nurses and aides, who all went above and beyond the call of duty, and went out of their way to make their patients feel at home. My grandmother was 100% satisfied with her 6 week stay at the facility, while in physical rehabilitation for her foot. She was impressed with the meals that were served, compared to other health care/nursing home facilities. The portions were decent and there was a good selection to choose from. I am well pleased with the care she received and would recommend this facility to anyone who is looking for the right nursing home for themselves or a loved one. "

"When Alice first went to the nursing home, she was much more lucid than she is now. Even so, you can still tell that she is very happy here. All of the staff are warm and friendly and make it a point to include her in all the activities. We once showed up for a surprise visit and one of the nurses was reading to her, as she can no longer read to herself. There is a nice courtyard where you can go outside and enjoy the flowers. It is very pleasant. "
