The Oaklawn staff was very professional, competent, and accomodating. She improved greatly during her stary there, returned to her home without hospice, and is still doing well independently a year and a half later. "We had arranged for my husband to go to Laurels Peak. I was impressed with the staff becuase they were so nice and helpful, and they had a music therapist, which is wonderful for people that have dementia because that is one of the last senses to go. They make it so much fun. My husband has always been a singer and loves to sing. We just couldn't let him stay there because he tries to get out, and they don't have the doors locked there. I would recommend it for someone that doesn't have dementia. It would be a great place. It just wouldn't work for my husband because the facility isn't set up for someone with dementia who tries to leave. If he was in a wheelchair, it would be no problem but he can walk, and they couldn't watch him every minute. "

"This nursing home is located on a picturesque lake in the city of Waseca. It is a small nursing home that appears to be well maintained. My visit to this home was unfortunately depressing. Upon entry of the home I found numerous residents in the first room. The room had large windows that opened up to the view of the lake. Most of the people in the room were in wheel chairs and were not able to move around much. A few of the residents were complaining openly that they could not move to see the view outside. The staff ignored the complaints and went about other tasks. For over a half an hour I did not observe any staff come in to the room to help anyone. Other visitors were helping the residents get around and move to other places in the room. The rest of my tour found similar situations of staff not paying attention to simple requests from the residents. There was a smell that was not pleasant and some of the public areas were not well maintained. "
