Nursing Home Communities in Dahlonega, GA

"My mother-in-law has resided here for the last 6 months. Despite her limited English (she's Japanese), the staff has gone out of their way to communicate and make her feel "very special" and comfortable. My wife and I have visited her at all hours and I've never heard a staff member use harsh or condescending language to any of the residents. The residents have always been treated with respect. We've had numerous interactions with the staff and the administration. I can only give them the highest marks for their demonstrated care and concern for the well being of our Mother. The staff dispenses their smiles, hugs and infinite patience. I know they really care. We have carefully considered moving her to an assisted care facility but have decided she should remain there for all these reasons. I would like to thank the thoughtful staff for smoothly transitioning our Mother to her new home. ."

"My husband is in Chestnut Ridge. One of the things I like about them is they let me bring my dog. I think that's a really positive thing. Although they need more communal rooms where the patients can get out in wheelchairs, because they just sit in the lobby and on the front porch so they really need more room. The majority of the staff is very helpful. "

"Willowwood is the one I want my mother to go to. That place is strange because it was older. I wouldn't say it is dirty, but it is older and almost like a rundown trailer park. Once I got inside, they had birds in this humongous bird cage. Nobody was in their rooms, and everybody was out like they were having races with the wheelchairs. It looked great because they were not just drugged and left in bed. I talked to a couple of people there, and they seemed extremely happy with that place. They did show me one room. They had just painted it, and it just became available. It was semi-private and was a decent size. I think all the rooms must look like that with two beds, two night stands, and two dressers. I didn't try the food, but the way they do it is like a buffet. They can go into the cafeteria and actually pick what they want which I like. The tables all have flowers and tablecloths on them. They can go and be able to socialize which is a lot better. I don't know how the food was, but the way they presented it, it seems great. They had a fish tank and a lot of them were sitting and watching the fish. It just seems very light and real airy. From what I saw, I would recommend it. "

"We toured PruittHealth Jasper. They were very spacious. Most of them had sliding glass doors which were not accessible. They couldn't open them. They had most of them shut, but they were very roomy and very clean. The lady who took us around on the tour was exceptionally nice. Anytime we met anyone on the staff, they greeted us, made eye contact, and spoke to us, saying "Hello. How are you?", and things like that. They were all very friendly."

"Cumming Nursing Center seems really nice but they don't have any beds for him. The staff was very nice. I didn't have any complaints about them. "

"My mom is now in rehab at Habersham Home. I think it’s pretty darn good actually, and the staff is good. I’m there quite often. They are currently upgrading and painting, which is good because it needs a good upgrade, and they’re working on that right now. It has a little garden. They do a good job with my mom. It’s not easy work, but they certainly do a good job with it. "

"Encompass Health Rehabilitation Hospital of Cumming was fabulous. Top of the line. Staff, facilities, food rooms, everything. It's beautiful, modern, and clean. The staff were great, all very knowledgeable, very nice, and very caring. My mom was there for rehab."

"The facility was very clean. My grandfather was there after complications with Parkinson's disease. All of the staff were courteous, caring, and answered questions very well. The food was healthy, suited to what he needed, and no one minded helping him if he had trouble using his hands or anything. The physical therapy that he had to do was done properly, at his level, and with plenty of respect and caring. At no time was he treated rudely or like he was simply a number. He made friends there and while he never thought of it like home he did enjoy it enough that he wasn't devastated at being there. The biggest complaint I have is that the administrative staff were not as nice as the nursing staff. It was difficult to get straight answers about things like insurance or even when the doctor would be in. They often spoke down to myself, my mother, and my grandmother. We could have done without condescending attitudes but overall it's a great facility. "

"The facility was very nice. We had to move my husbands grandmother into a nursing home after she was released form the hospital and before she could go back to her assisted living facility. Laurel Baye was very clean and the staff very friendly and knowledgeable. They spent as much time as we needed showing us around and answering our questions. It was farther from our home than the facility first recommended to us but it was so much cleaner and the residents looked much happier so it was no question to go the extra distance. She needed physical therapy and the therapists there worked with her very well considering her attitude on the subject. It was a struggle and she kept telling everyone we had put her there against her wishes which was true but she needed help. The staff took it in stride and after a couple of weeks she had even made a couple of new friends. "

"Heritage was very nice. I did not like the setup that they had. Their halls were crowded, as they allow the patients to sit out in the hall. We talked to the people we know and they said the food was not good, but other people said that their parents were there and that they were happy with it, so it all depends on the individual. The staff was OK, but they don’t return our calls or get back to us as quickly as I think they should. I talked to a girl and said anywhere from a week to a month, and I haven’t heard from them in two months. The rooms were OK, nothing spectacular, but they need more room for the number of clients that they have. They have bingo and card games. "
