I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

We've had a good experience with dad's rehab at Carver Rehabilitation & Living Center. Everybody was pleasant. He's been there twice. I was satisfied with the room arrangement both times. The first time he was there, he was in a single room and the second time, he's there now with the roommate. I've also had a couple of bad experiences. The first time he was there was strictly for rehab. I felt like he was released too soon and he wasn't ready to come home and no one bothered to discuss us having the option of him staying farther. So there should have been more communication.

Provider Response

Thank you so much for taking the time to share your feelings with us, Lisa. At Carver Rehabilitation & Living Center, we take everyone's experience personally. Our team makes each decision based off of their training and years of education. If you feel concerned in any way about a decision that was previously made, please reach out so we can discuss it further with you. Your feelings are important and we'd love to hear more about how we can communicate in a way that benefits each resident (past and present).

I am/was a resident of this facility

This is my fourth stay here at Carver Rehabilitation & Living Center. Their therapy is fantastic. The rest of it, not so much. If you are not cognizant of the medications you take, you may have problems, so you need to be watchful. Some of the nurses are fantastic at passing out meds. Others not so much. They don't even know what they gave you. So, that gets frustrating and I worry about people here who don't know what they're taking. Since I've been here, they have remodeled one entire portion of the building, and that's usually the ones that are coming in for rehab, and they are beautiful and nice. The room I am in is probably 12 feet wide, 16 feet long, and maybe a little longer. The bathroom is very small. If I were able to stand and could get in, the shower stall wouldn't be a problem. Since I'm only able to go in with a chair, there's not even room to move in it. Not all of the rooms are like this. Some of them are larger, but those have two people in them. They have bingo, movies, and craft programs once in a while. There's a small courtyard outside and at least twice a day, it is surrounded by people who are smoking in the smoking area. So, there's not much there for you.

Provider Response

I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

I am a family member of a patient who stayed at this facility. Every time I had interactions with anyone at this facility, they were always respectful and timely in getting back to me. The facility needs a little updating but other than that this is a fabulous place to place a loved one. The staff is courteous, the food is great, there are plenty of activities for everyone, and they have private rooms on the Rehab Hall. Just a wonderful setting to rehabilitate from the hospital, just before going home.

I am past sick of calling and no one answers or they are short with you on the phone. Or switch to the floor and no picks up, where are the workers???? You can’t get office people unless they want to call you and complain. And guess what to bring stuff and hold 24 hours don’t help if staff has the virus duh!! I’ve seen dirt beds and laundry and smelled pee unsure if diapers or on floor. Now about four people have extremely nice. And my family has been there for years but if I was rich they definitely would not be!! I think they need to hire more experienced people and pay them more / better maybe they’d appreciate their job more and their responsibility to our family members They should all ask themselves would I treat my mom or dad like this??? I know patients can be hard to deal with but that’s your job! God does bless some with a kind heart and sensitivity!!!

this place is the worst of the worst place to put any one you love!!!!! my relative was walking and talking before going into this horrow place. now she can not walk or talk. she are full of bed sores, big sores on her butt and foot. the worker are very mean and short tempered. each time i visit she is always in bed, and in pain. they give her nothing for the pain when i ask. she is wet and laying in it. it is so much more that i saw and know about this place. not a good place. "the workers" are nasty.

great place!

very good nursing staff. therapy is exceptional push hard and keep in constant contact. the wound nurse is awesome handles any thing you bring her and always smiling. the food is unbelievable. the activities are spread out through the day to accommodate all patients being able to attend and they have plenty of them. its a fun loving homelike environment. my mother was admitted for wound and physical therapy and decided to stay long term once her wound healed and therapy was finished. any issues I've had were resolved in a timely manner. the only issues ive experienced was with the 100 hall supervisor. other than that I would refer carver to anyone needing a good place.

I visited this facility

We already placed my grandmother in Carver Living Center. It is a nice facility, and it is open to families. There's a lot of staff. I think they are good, and the nurses are helpful when you ask. Just with any place you keep your eye on things. I have tried the food there, and it is not bad. They have Family Days where they include the families at times. They have arts and crafts too. They have different things they do depending on what the residents want to participate in. I think this facility is fairly good. I just feel like overall, everywhere could always use improvement. I feel you should never stop improving.

Frustrated!!!

I am a friend or relative of resident

My mother has been a resident at Carver Living Center for the past 3 months for rehab. She went in weighing 103 lbs. She now weighs 86 lbs. She's worse off now than when she went in. She has fallen 2 times and had 3 urinary tract infections. The doctor on staff there took my mom off of her low dose antibiotics that were keeping her from having UTI's. We have NEVER spoken to or seen the doctor since my mom was there. They gave my mom a laxitive and then let her lay in her feces for an hour before they came to change her. The staff would put her in her bed and not put her call button where it was accessible to my mom. My mom is allergic to fish, but they would keep giving her fish for some of her meals after we had told them she was allergic to it. If you love your family member, this is NOT the place you want to put them.

I visited this facility

My sister was having a hard time getting a place for her ex-husband. But he's been placed at Carver Living Center and he's fine now. They seem to be doing very well for him. I think the food is fine. I don't have any complaints.

the room sizes are descent, the wound care nurse= excellent, speech therapist=excellent, cleaness=good, all of these things are good but if someone drops the ball on making sure your loved one has sufficent oxygen, they could end up= deceased. which is more important to you? You be the judge.

I am a friend or relative of a resident

My mother is a resident at Carver in Durham and has been since January of this year. For the most part the facility and staff are quite fair. The facility is under new management because of some issues that arose earlier in the year. Due to some unfairness with the previous management, it resulted in some of the CNA's resigning. I do believe their laundry process can be much better as some of the sheets are dingy. Housekeeping does a good job in making sure any spills or messes are cleaned in a timely manner. The food could be more appetizing but for the most part is alright. We are allowed to purchase dining tickets for $2 a meal to eat with my mother. Regarding charging for meals of residents' family and/or friends I think that for the amount of money they charge to be a resident, they should have an allotted number of times per week/resident that guests are permitted for meals.
