I am/was a resident of this facility

I did not have a good experience here. Very understaffed. Waited over a hour to get help with changing, etc. Some staff very rude. One woman would hang up on people who had complaints. Not recommended.

I am/was a resident of this facility

I had injury that required bed rest & PT. I was sent to the 11th floor where the nurses and aides for the most part nice & efficient. It is obvious they are short staff & do the best they can. THE FOOD IS DREADFUL AND FOR THE MOST PART UNEDIBLE. THE SOCIAL WORK DEPARTMENT IS DREADFUL AND THEY LIE. IT TOOK ALMOST 2 WEEKS TO MEET WITH SOCIAL WORKER WHO LIED. THE PHYSICAL THERAPIST WAS VERY GOOD BUT OCCUPATIONAL THERAPIST NEEDED MORE TRAINING. SHE WAS BUSY SOCIALIZING.

Rooms dirty, sheets ripped torn stained, bathroom had dried feces on bar. staff overworked, understaffed, disorganized, inefficient, you have to pursue nurses, aides, administration for the care of your spouse etc. bedsores, thigh rashes, not taken care of properly,..aides don't take person to bathroom on regular basis, aide light stopped working, release time is inefficient disorganized terrible

Do NOT send your loved one here. They took poor care of my father. Patients lie in their beds waiting 23 hours a day for rehab. My Dad is tall and his feet were hanging off the bed. As they are not allowed to put sides on the beds the solution was to put slippery gym mats on the floor in case he fell out.The food is awful and they put him on a puree diet which his neurologist said he did not need. And they sent him home with a gall bladder infection so I had to race him back to the hospital. When I told the ambulance drivers where he'd been they just rolled their eyes. Apparently it has a poor reputation among those in the know.

I visited this facility

My friend had seemed normal the day before I visited but when I visited a year ago yesterday she seemed like a zombie - she had had a stroke, and this great place had done nothing about it. They should get a negative rating. She had been in a room with several patients, including a woman who was crazy and shouting day and night, including explatives.

Please look elsewhere as doctors are unresponsive and social workers unprofessional, poorly trained. PT personnel and nurses seem to be caring however overall inefficiently run.

This is not a place to be if you are immobile. The staff do their best but the Center is way understaffed and my friend needs to be fed. He can drink with a straw but he cannot feed himself and has lost too much weight and muscle that I doubt he will live much longer The food is disgusting . I tasted a plate of “soft food” which my friend was served. He made a face when he tasted it. Not knowing why/ I tasted it myself . Mashed peas with absolutely no flavour, mashed potatoes ( not bad ) but the “meat” or whatever it was .. tasted like cat food. Surely baby food and or protein drinks would be easy to serve, but no one should be served what I tasted!! Phone calls are impossible.. 1/2 of my calls to my friend go unanswered or are disconnected . Yes - the rehab is clean and anyone who visits is tested for covid. But this is not a place to live - nor is this a place to die. Maybe for rehab but nothing else.

This is a great place to bring your mom if you hate her. But if you want her to live, do everything you can to keep her at home. I missed the symptoms of her worsening health because I’m not a doctor, but if the medical staff had been more attentive, or a little more curious, they might have been able to save her. Everybody knows that a patient with a broken hip needs to get up and start moving around right away or they will experience lung problems and a cascading series of health issues that lead to death. She was in pain and didn’t want to get up, so they just let her lie there. I begged them to let me take her home, but I couldn’t get her released. There was paperwork and red tape. But nobody answers the phone or calls you back so you can’t get the process started. I wanted to put her in a taxi but then all of a sudden she needed oxygen and I couldn’t take her anywhere without it. I thought I was making progress and that it would only take a couple more days. But then the fever, the ambulance, and the ICU. My heart is broken and my grief and rage are all I have. My mom is gone forever. I’ll never get to tell her another joke, or show her photos of the children, or bring her another surprise pastry. It’s all over. I hate this place.

Absolutely the worst place ever! I have a friend on the 7th floor - the "psych" floor. It came take literally weeks before I can ever get anyone to even answer the phone. My hope for the people who "work" there is that one day they have a friend or family member there - and they cannot ever get in touch with that person. It is heartbreaking. We will not even discuss the food, the physical care of the patient, etc. Truly a place of horror.

Do not send anyone you care about to this place. It is a place to go and die. The care is terrible or nonexistent. They do not let your own doctor in to see the patient so there is no way for families to know how the patient is being treated. They keep you for 100 days then send you a bill for $10,000. No one calls you back. They move you around so different social workers handle the case and have no idea what is happening. All of my mothers personal items (clothes, etc.) were stolen and not returned. No once cares. They let you lie in bed and die. Horrible horrible place. And then to get a bill for $10,000. No one returns calls. Impossible to find out who owns the place or how to contact them. Absolute nightmare.

Admissions was happy to take moms money however that didn't last long. I. found the administrator of admissions rude when I requested a brochure booklet. She felt it was okay to send me to the second floor, "they might have copies."On thee second floor you will find PT which to date mom has not entered after repeatedly asking for PT to prevent muscle atrophy. Doctors are not available to consult with family. however you might bump into the Physician Assistant. I'm puzzled, what does the social worker do? the nurse is pleasant however overworked. Actually the floor seems to be understaffed. Short on supplies, one size fits all (large) incontinence products. Floor missing an ice machine so it is infrequently delivered in an ice cooler. I can go on, Room so small wheelchair does not fit let alone visitors dueling televisions-which are always on and loud Cleanliness is not top priority Impossible to get food choices correct Food unattractive and tasteless Do not use the laundry service- over bleach ripped, and delivered on wire hangers, however I must say the turn around is almost immediate. Floor missing shower chair for months. I had to demand mom be taken out of bed each day though her doctor prescribed moving her every 2 hours. Never happened. Activities are for those who can get around on their own or with a private nurse. I could go on but I must check on moms care.

At first, you're impressed, but when you have a senior loved one there in need of physical therapy, you are not pleased. There are Impressive machines in the PT room that are not, or can not, be used by most elderly patients. in-frequent and inadaquate theraphy scheduling. There's always a problem. Staff shortage, especially weekends and holidays. Poor dietary menu.(Should always bring outside food.) Administrative staff's primary concern is insurrance coverage, not patient progress care. A good point: regular patient staff. Poor social service staff guidance.'Buyer be ware'.

This is a terrible place! My husband was sent home with undiagnosed bedsores. He was given the wrong medication and when he called attention to the mistake, he was given it a second time. When people share a room, the TV is allowed to blare all the time. There are no earphones or even closed captioning, surprisingly enough. There is a lack of coordination with the staff so that the right hand doesn't know what the left hand is doing. DON'T GO THERE.

I visited this facility

My wife came following treatment for lymphoma. I found her treatment here superb. The staff at all levels helpful. The facilities clean and even gleaming. It could have been FIVE star if the waiting time at the elevator s were reasonable. And the fare at the café better. Bad coffee and orange juice. The food for patients is adequate for instatutional service. All in all : a wonderful place....No terrible surprise s....

My father has been here for only a few days and we are extremely disappointed with the care he is getting. We choose this facility because Elizabeth, the Hospital Assessor, spoke highly of this place. The facility itself is nice and has been recently renovated. My father wanted to get out of bed and I had to hit the buzzer many times. Finally the woman at the desk on the 4th floor came into the room and told me that nobody can help me because they are all serving dinner. She was very nasty. My father fell out of bed overnight and they found him on the floor. Now they put a mat next to the bed just in case he falls out again because nobody can watch him. He was sitting in the wheel chair in his room and wanted to get back in bed. Again I hit the buzzer numerous times and again that nasty woman came in and told me that everybody is busy and nobody can help me. I am trying to get my father out of this place. I wouldn't recommend the Upper Eastside Rehab if the patient needs any sort of care. Only patients who can feed themselves, move around by themselves, and can physically get up to go to the bathroom by themselves should go here. Otherwise, avoid this place!!!

My relative has been here only a few days but so far we are very unhappy with the care she's getting. We chose this place because it was recommended by a friend. The floor nurse is nice but the rest of aids shouldn't be doing this job because they are quite nasty. Perhaps is bad luck? Maybe is only this floor?

My name is Karen Wexford. We have been visiting our long time friend Kelly M at the new Upper Eastside Rehab center for quiet some time now and are very please at the treatment and care given him. My husband and I just wanted to take the time to express our appreciation by writing this and giving them a very favorable rating.

I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

My parent is a current resident at UES Rehab. The place was recently sold and renovated; it's bright, clean, and sufficiently staffed by mostly friendly, caring people. (Some floors have nursing home patients grandfathered in from the previous owner, Dewitt; those floors look shabby by comparison.) There's an generous outdoor space with tables, a cafe in the lobby, a couple of brightly lit dining rooms, and some organized activities for those who wish to attend. I consider the Physical Therapy offered at UES to be most important. My parent's physical therapist is highly skilled and compassionate, and the PT equipment is mostly new and excellent, That floor looks like a brand-new gym. Downsides of UES Rehab: the food is pretty terrible, the TVs in every room, for every resident, do not have headphones, and--most importantly-- every patient needs an advocate (spouse or family member) to be sure their loved one gets his/her needs met in a timely way. Communication among the staff is not the best, and some wheels can turn slowly, for example, getting a new medicine. The first day or two after arrival is especially confusing as no checklist is provided concerning what to expect--visits from various staff members, how PT works and is scheduled, when meals are served, etc. Exactly how to get everything in place and ball rolling is too much of a mystery--one that UES should and could address. And also, there are times when parts of the building reek of urine, which should never be the case. But I have to say that overall, I am happy with our choice of UES Rehab.

My Mother has been a patient here for a while now. I love the caring staff and the genuine compassion that I feel that they give her. She likes the food and it's nice a clean. I couldn't of picked a better place to keep my peace of mind. I really recommend Upper East Side Rehabilitation. Oh and you can't beat the location! Two thumbs up.

Upper East Side Rehabilitation and Nursing Center is an excellent place. The place was renovated, so it has all brand-new flooring, beds, equipment, and paint. The staff has been wonderful, and the equipment and gym for rehab are terrific. My husband has only been there for a week and is not an easy person to get along with, but he is happy there.
