I visited this facility

I will be moving into Fairwinds up in Rio Rancho. I toured it many times. It's good. When you go in, it's really beautifully lit by natural sunlight, because the ceiling is high, and there's a lot of windows. So that's the first thing. You get a great feel for it when you come in. They're just really wonderful. The apartment that I'm going to be in is beautiful. It's a one-bedroom apartment and it's on the first floor with a patio and beautiful views, and then the common areas are so bright. You just feel like you are part of a good community, and there are people to talk to, and there's lots of events. Overall, I'm just extremely excited to be moving there. It's a good place. They also have 24/7 nursing care. I'm a quadriplegic and I just need more attention. However, I'm still going to be allowed to have my private caregivers and nurses come and visit me there, too. And another wonderful, wonderful thing is my wife is going to stay in our house, and it's only ten minutes away, so she will be able to see me every day. And there are just so many good things. I'm very, very pleased. They're so accommodating, and they answered all our questions. I'm extremely pleased with those people. I have tried their food, and it's all very, very high-end, and delicious. There's a bistro, which is open 24/7. Late at night if I decide I want something, I can get food and drink, so it's excellent. The building is beautiful, and they attend to it beautifully. It's absolutely clean and friendly.

Fairwinds-Rio Rancho has lovely rooms. It's quite spacious and nice. They have excellent food. They have a lot of activities and they take you to stores, the library, and just some short trips/outings to restaurants and activities. They have an exercise room. Small pets are allowed. It has a lovely apartment in the assisted living and I won't have to move again unless I end up going to hospice. The staff that was just passing by said hello and was willing to chat, and so were the residents. They were very friendly.

I visited this facility

I visited Fairwinds - Rio Rancho three times. I liked that it was a very vibrant community. There were lots of people in their lobby intermingling and interacting with each other. The staff is very friendly. They answer phone calls but not very quickly. I had lunch there and it was very nice. They have a restaurant that's open for three meals a day for two hours each meal. And then they also have a bistro that's open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., where you can always eat there instead of the restaurant. I like that. If I need a snack, I can always go down there and get something during the day. I don't have to wait for restaurant hours. The building looked in good shape. I heard it's a little older, but I couldn't tell. It looks new. They have a lot of different variations in their rooms. I'm looking for a one-bedroom and they had 6 or 7 different one-bedroom sizes, so they had a variety of sizes available.

Mom lives in Fairwinds-Rio Rancho and she's very satisfied right now, so we're going to keep her there. The place is good. It's very clean and nice. It probably needs some updating, but still it's above average. The food is good. She played Rummikub, hand and foot, and Pinochles. They have a lot of music activities. They also have art activities and a lot of other activities for individuals.

I visited Fairwinds- Rio Rancho two years ago. I had a wonderful and very thorough tour. The staff was very nice. They had everything you could imagine from an indoor to outdoor swimming pool, to craft rooms, to a pub and a woodshop. The list just goes on and on. It's a fairly new building. The studio was very small, but it was very nice. It had a kitchen in it. The only thing was its way out in Rio Rancho and it's in a very, very high-density traffic business area. You can't take a walk around the block.

I'm staying at Fairwinds - Rio Rancho. It's very clean, very pretty, and very, very friendly. The people there are very friendly. There's a lot to do, and there are rides to go to the store, the pharmacy, and the doctor. There are rides, and they take care of you. There's a little workout room and there are things to do there like a reading group. They have things like that and that's a good thing. You can go to the desk and get help with anything and that's nice. The staff are very nice. My room is very nice. I like it. There's a really pretty window that looks out. I enjoy that. I have not gotten my room cleaned too much because when I went to the hospital, they put a lock box on my room so that nobody could get in just for safety. So that meant that the cleaning staff couldn't get in too much. The dining area is very nice. They're going to have a Thanksgiving feast for families, which is nice. The atmosphere is very pretty. That's one thing that's very pretty. There are a lot of benches and a lot of little places to sit. If the weather is very nice, you can sit on the benches and just enjoy the atmosphere, and it's very nice there. Very pretty.

Everything seems lovely, welcoming, pleasant, etc. when you are applying to live there. They couldn't be nicer! But once our loved one began living there, the following issues arose: 1. if you call the Fairwinds with a concern, they never call you back! 2. one of the nurses is very tactless and has zero compassion when engaging with our vulnerable loved ones! 3. there's a "back door" to the facility that is never locked and so anyone has access, day or night! 4. there's a frequent change of staff, many of whom seem to be clueless Other than these issues, the food is adequate to moderately good, the ambiance is nice, the bus availability is good and the activities are available to all.

We visited Fairwinds - Rio Rancho and we ate there. The food was great, the people were very, very nice and they seemed very knowledgeable. They were upfront with us about all it entailed, what they had to offer, and things like that. We would move in there in a heartbeat if they have the third level care, like memory care and nursing care. Before any of the residents move into the rooms, they put in new carpets and new appliances. So when you go in, practically everything's new with fresh paint and everything. The facility was clean and their dining room was also clean. We enjoyed the food, the people that served us were courteous and very nice.

We liked the Fairwinds - Rio Rancho. The facility was nice. The caretakers, as far as the staff, the nursing people, the med techs, and the caregivers were very nice. It was just the kitchen had an issue with staffing and everything else, and they were going through hard times, so they got rid of the manager. Hopefully, it'll get better. My father was there for four months. He said the food was OK. The only thing he complained about the food is it was more modern food. It wasn't the old-style food that 70 to 90-year-old people were used to eating, the chef would try to make it more ritzy or fancy. That was the only complaint he had about the food itself. From what food he actually would eat, he said it was good, but most of the time, he wouldn't eat some of it. They were locked down from COVID for quite a while, but once they get through that, they have quite an extensive program to get involved with and things to do. There's always something going on. They're quite extensive in the activities. The rooms had a kitchenette and a refrigerator with a freezer, but there was no stove and there's no microwave. They had a courtyard and a patio. They even said something about a little garden area in the summer.

We visited Fairwinds - Rio Rancho for my mother. The people were very nice, the place was clean and well-kept. The staff was very nice and welcoming. Their dining area was very nice, the facility was very clean, and the maintenance on the grounds was fantastic. It looked more like a new hotel over a retirement home. We saw both retirement and assisted living.

We chose Fairwinds - Rio Rancho for my dad. The people were amazing and immediately responsive. I had a visit scheduled the next day. They met me. It was the cleanest, nicest, most affordable place we visited by far. It was just perfect. It was. It was assisted living, but I think there's a broad spectrum of assisted living. I mean, there were certainly some people that might have benefited from memory care, but they've gone above and beyond to keep them integrated with the other community members, and that they rely on each other for a lot of companionship. There isn't that segregation between memory care and assisted living, but there is that spectrum of residents, and that's exactly what my dad needs. He wasn't quite memory care, but he certainly needed help in the assisted living environment kind of thing with just his ADLs and stuff like that. Fantastic people. The CEO immediately came right up and introduced himself and was so approachable. All of the people, even in just the short time that we were there, the first visit we had two different residents come up and say how much they enjoyed living there, how nice everyone was. It was just crazy cool. The food was amazing, with big portions. He's gone to a happy hour. He's been to the library and listened to a book review. I'm really impressed. He's really tried to integrate. He's been really good.

Fairwinds - Rio Rancho was a very good community. I have no complaints about it whatsoever. They have really good staff, and I would highly recommend them. Everybody seemed very friendly, helpful, and caring. The building was very well kept. The rooms looked very spacious and clean. The overall layout looked really good. They had a salon, gym, and movie room.

I went to Fairwinds - Rio Rancho. The staff was very friendly, very helpful, and it was very clean. I saw a one-bedroom apartment, it was very clean, it was kind of small, and they seemed to have a nice dining room. The prices were pretty high and I couldn't afford to move there. They gave me a sheet of paper of all the things that they have, like going to Walmart, going on bus rides, and going to some places.

My parents moved into Fairwinds - Rio Rancho. I think they've been happy there. They're still adjusting, but the medical staff has been very helpful, there are a lot of activities offered, and their place is nice. The one downside is that the food isn't great. They have more activity options than most. There's a movie theater, a nice gym, a small library, they provide transportation, there's a bus, and they have a dining room as well as a bistro for dining. I think the staff seemed happy there. Most of them seemed like they enjoy their job; there's a lot of people that have worked there for many years.

Fairwinds Rio Rancho is the place that my mom selected, and she's going to be moving in there. The place is fantastic. From the moment we walked in, everyone in the staff, from the cleaning lady to the driver greeted us with a smile. It was like a wonderful, cozy, homey and friendly feeling from the beginning. We selected a small 1-bedroom for my mother. I like the way that it's laid out and it's configured so she could bring her furniture with her. She originally wanted a studio but their studio was a little too small for what she wanted to bring with her. I like the way the rooms were decorated. The one-bedroom we selected was very nice and airy. It was very nice and had a good feeling. We had lunch there and the food was excellent, we were very pleasantly surprised. They have arts and crafts, bingo, a pool table, a musical group coming in, things like that. My mother will be in the assisted living although she needs very little assistance as of now.

Fairwinds - Rio Rancho is fair to really good. They also have a nice facility. They provide food for my parents, but I take care of everything else, which is my choice. They do the cleaning of the floors and bathroom. They provide the service, but it's an additional charge. If you want your laundry done, they'll do sheets, but that's it. They charge extra for clothes. The staff is excellent and react to what you ask them about, but on some occasions, you have to prod them to get them to do something. The food is marginal like most assisted living centers.

My parents moved into Fairwinds. I think they're really friendly, and it's beautiful. The amenities they're using are the beauty shop and the driver. The food has not been the best, and they have run out of the specials often. They're in a spacious one-bedroom with a very high ceiling. They have a nice courtyard in the backyard. The staff is very nice.

Fairwinds in Rio Rancho has everything that I was looking for. The staff was very good, helpful, and accommodating in showing me what I asked for. The community is up on a hill and away from the traffic, which is what I wanted. They just won't have any apartments available for a few years on the first floor. They have a movie theater, library, exercise room, luncheon dinner facilities, and they take residents to stores and to the doctor.

Mother and I looked at several facilities and when we talked with the staff and saw the gorgeous bright dining room and had several of the residents say "hello", we knew we had found the perfect place for Mother. They were over the top when it came to helping Mother get adjusted. The day she moved in, they had balloons and a big "welcome home" banner hanging in her room...of course, both of us burst into tears....tears of appreciation...

I loved working with Sharon to find a place for both my parents. Fairwinds was clean, had a happy activity level, and multiple options for care levels. I know my parents will be safe and well-cared for here. As I live in Colorado, I wanted reassurance that my mom and dad would be happy, healthy, and safe in their new home. Fairwinds provides all that and more.

Fairwinds is very well-laid out, secure, and clean. They have a lot of activities, and the place is really nice. On Fridays during the fall, they would have a Sunday football party. I met their trainer for dancing and any kind of exercise that would help. The apartment was very clean and roomy.

Fairwinds - Rio Rancho was great. The problem was it was too big, and my brother got lost in there. If he had participated, I think he would have loved the place, but he just held up in his room, went down for his meals, and sat by himself because they had restaurant style dining, and the food was excellent. There wasn’t anything wrong with Fairwinds. It just wasn’t the right fit for him, and it was too big of a facility. They had a lot going on down there; he just didn’t participate.

Fairwinds-Rio Rancho is a great place that's reasonably priced for my mother's services. We picked Mom a $2,400 a month studio combined with an additional $200 a month of extra services, but these include an enormous amount of stuff. There is a menu of additional services that you can pick from such as medication, inhalers, and showering. There are also elevated services that become available as needs become necessary. My mom came down with a horrible gastrointestinal sickness and shortly after that, other residents started coming down with the same sickness, so they locked down and quarantined the entire building to stop it. It took a couple of weeks, which was hard on the staff, the residents, and the families, but I appreciate the fact that they were so diligent to make it stop.

Provider Response

Dear Paula, Thank you so much for your recent review of our community. We are glad to hear that your mom is receiving the services she needs and that you are aware that you can make changes to her plan as needed. The safety of our residents is priority number one and when we have any illness in the building that affects residents we need to be very proactive; we maintain an open communication regarding the circumstances with residents and family members. Thank you for your understanding and if you ever have any questions, please feel free to contact us. Thank you for making Fairwinds Rio Rancho your mom's new home. Jorge Hornos, General Manager

Fairwinds was wonderful. The residents were active, engaged, and fun. We looked at their apartments. Although they were a little dated, they were clean and the roomiest we've seen. It was the most reasonably priced of the ones that I visited. The location was great for me. It had a homey atmosphere. The residents were involved in all kinds of activities and had fun. I took my parents for dinner there. The food was superb, and the wait staff was really good. I would recommend them.

I’m living at Fairwinds Rio Rancho right now. It’s very elegant and very luxurious. The staff is very caring and very friendly. I live in a 720-square-foot apartment. It has one bedroom, a living room, a kitchen, and a bathroom. It’s a private room. The grounds are fine. It is probably the least expensive of the most luxurious places to live in.

Our tour at Fairwinds went really well, and we were impressed with the facility. The rooms were nice-shaped and were nice space-wise. The space was used very well and wasn't dead space. We were impressed with the room and the staff, and it seemed to be very busy like everybody was doing something, going here and there, so it seemed very well. I feel that the package they give was very informative, they answered any questions we needed to know, and pretty much everything is a really good facility as far as the care for elderly, their doctors, the care-giving, and the stages. I was very impressed.

Ditto on all the other reviews, however, the monthly rental rates are not as prohibitive as others in the ABQ area. I visited many facilities in the area for my Mom, and I fell in love with Fairwinds because of the positive happy energy I felt the moment I walked into the front doors. All the residents seemed very happy and well taken care of. The food was great and the apartments were sunny, clean, modern and inviting, I was impressed with the amenities, including the transportation, and the management staff were very personable. I also like the fact that it feels very safe. The property is very well taken care of. I would love to see my Mom as a resident at Fairwinds, as she lives in Rio Rancho and would not have to transition out of her community, and I think she would be happy here.

Fairwinds - Rio Rancho had an awesome representative. I enjoyed the facility, it is a very busy place. The lobby area to the dining area is more like a restaurant. They have a fairly big menu. We chose Fairwinds - Rio Rancho because it's pet friendly, and it seems to serve all of my wife's needs. They have a restaurant inside, and a bus service that will take them anywhere. They have outings everyday if you want to go to a casino, grocery store or doctor's appointments. The food is good if you go there once, but then it gets routine. They have a daily special, and then everything else is the same everyday. They provide two meals per day, lunch, and dinner; which are part of the rent. You can also buy breakfast if you want or you can just have oatmeal or a bowl of cereal. She has a refrigerator, and a microwave in her room. They can improve on responding to requests. There are a couple of things that I questioned. The remote of the TV didn't work; I requested for her to get a new one. It's been two weeks, and she still doesn't have a new one. I've contacted the general manager a couple of times for this kind of stuff, and it gets handled right away. She has been there for two months now.

My mother wanted to drive. She goes to her activities, and there is an extra fee for that but that’s fine. Fairwinds offers that, and the other facilities did not.

I visited this facility

I just looked online and found Fairwinds - Rio Rancho and thought it might be in my price range. The staff were very nice. The rooms were very clean. The dining room was very pleasant. They had movies, Bingo, a lot of different groups that did things, and exercise. The facility seemed to be pleasant and comfortable. I was really impressed.

I visited this facility

Fairwinds is very nice, but it is expensive and it doesn't have continuing care. The staff was very nice. I looked at the menu and it was outstanding. The rooms were very nice.

I visited this facility

I had a one-time tour at Fairwinds Rio Rancho. The place is not brand new, but it has been remodeled, and it's very well kept. They have a restaurant-style dining place. The place really seemed very nice. The sales person was very friendly and the residents seemed to be healthy and well taken cared for. They have small group activities when I visited there and it looked good. The price is also a good deal.

We had mom at Fairwinds. The rooms and the people were very nice, but the other service staff seems to have no direction.

I visited this facility

We thought Fairwinds just seem to fit my mother-in-law's needs better. It's so close to my brother-in-law and he's able to visit her quite often. The facility was fabulous. There's no other word for it. It was just first class for what they charge. The cafeteria was beautiful, the staff were so nice to the residents. The residents have an option or a menu and they were able to choose what they wanted to eat. It's very, very elegant. It was not like an old folks home at all. My mother-in-law is almost 99 and has severe dementia. She passed away, but we were there with her a week. She had a beautiful apartment, and so well taken care of. Their attention to the residents was just amazing. They had a full-range of activities like card rooms. I could have live there. I would definitely recommend this facility.
