My dad was in Fair View Nursing Home and I don't recommend it to anyone. The staff was horrible and the residents hated it just as much as everyone else. It was dirty, and there was no communication. The residents could even tell you how much they hate it there. All the times I was there, I never got to speak to a professional. I could have just walked in being a stranger up the street pushing a wheelchair, and they wouldn't even know. My dad did not appreciate the meals, he said they're all not good. I've seen a list of activities on the wall that they have things like bingo. But of the times I was there, I'd never seen any activities going on. It's pretty much the residents running the place and doing what they want. I didn't see any amenities, and when we moved my dad in, the room was dirty. They really didn't give them anything. I never even spoke with any of the staff. I pretty much did everything for him while they were all sitting behind a desk chatting. When I walked in on the room, it looked like it could have been a double room. It had a dresser that still had stuff in it from the person before, and there was stuff under the bed, and it was just dirty. The building was very old with not much upkeep.

I really felt that the facility was well maintained, however, I was not keen on the way that some of the staff spoke with the residents. It really seemed to me that the majority talked down to them, or talked to them like they were children and you could definitely tell this annoyed some of the more lucid residents. I was there during meal times, and I did note that meals were prepared in a very clean and considerate to the wishes of the residents way, so that was definitely a good thing. It seemed that the meals were nutritionally balanced and prepared with care. Another thing that really seemed odd to me though was that the grounds were a little bit spartan, as were the decorations around the place. It could have been a bit more homey but all in all, it was clean and well maintained. While I would not put my loved one in this home, I would not say it was a bad one.
