My mom moved to Avalon Memory Care St. Louis. They are wonderful. They have done everything we've asked them to do. The price is a little high, but overall for what you're getting, they take very much pride in what they do. They attend to the seniors, they toilet them every two hours. They have activities for them. They take care of them. They shower them twice a week. They have great meals, and it's a beautiful place. Overall, it's just a very comfortable, warm environment, and loving family-type setting. There's not one person in our family that visited there that didn't like it and didn't think it was just a very comfortable place to live. The staff is all very kind and generous, and they text us with pictures of my mom eating dinner, calling us, or anything, and they're very attentive. They also communicate with us almost daily. The facility is beautiful, but there's very little parking. The rooms are very roomy. They have a beautiful walk-in shower, a separate vanity, a big closet, and a TV screen that's mounted on the wall. I wasn't able to try their food, but it smelled good when I was there. They have them all in a communal area while watching TV. They do have a craft table that some of them can go to, work crafts and put things together. They also play bingo. The value was about the same price we were paying for full skilled nursing, but it seems like they're doing a lot more for her than even the full skilled nursing staff was doing.

When we went to Avalon Memory Care-St. Louis, we were greeted exactly on time. The place was immaculately clean. It's set up like a huge ranch-style home. There's a kitchen, a living room, and a dining area. The rooms were like in a hallway that goes out to one of the greater rooms. So, it doesn't give you that institutional feeling. We were there during lunch and they had the dining area set up more like a home. There was a huge kitchen with an open counter where you could see them preparing the food, and it was nice. They were able to answer all my questions as far as if a room was available and were just very helpful. The staff ratio was phenomenal. I asked the gentleman if there were any more questions that I should have asked and he was the one who mentioned their ratio and that was wonderful. It was a question I would have never even asked. He understood that I was just starting to look and I felt comfortable. They had a shared apartment and a studio apartment. They were in the process of repainting and re-carpeting once we got into the studio. Some of the other residents had their rooms open, so we were able to look in. It was a one-room with a bathroom, shower, and vanity area. You could bring in your own furniture or they can help you supply different things. The one good thing that unit had was it had an outdoor area where, at their discretion, they could go out. There's a big iron fence at the end, but still, they had a patio and a courtyard. I've never seen that in any other place before.

I am very pleased with Avalon Memory Care St. Louis. They are one of the few places that could take care of my dad's needs. They are a memory care and assisted living type of place, but it's more than just assisted living. They're wonderful people that work there. We have been in contact with them, so that my dad can go back. The facility itself is very nice. Since its COVID, the activities are limited. I have seen some. They played some music and stood outside. The whole building is for memory care.

We visited Avalon Memory Care - St. Louis. They were cautious about Covid there by taking our temperature and by doing a rapid Covid test before we went in to tour, and it was the only place that did that. They were having activities when we went in their living area. We were shown the room, which was not quite ready yet, and it was the room my mom would have had. It was a small room, but it was nice. They gave me people that I could talk to as references, and I called those people and they all had nothing but good things to say. They either have loved ones still there or had loved ones there. However, it felt dark in there to me. I was expecting it to be brighter, but the woodwork was dark and the floor was dark. The dining area was not really clean when we walked through, but that could have been because they just finished eating and they have not had a chance to clean. It just did not feel like the place for my mom. The person who did the tour did not feel as friendly, outgoing and as upbeat as those at the other facilities.
