We have a diverse and active activity program based on the recreational (bingo, games, parties and outings), cognitive (trivia, Boggle, music & coloring, etc), physical (group exercise 6 days/week), and spiritual (religious services) needs of our residents. We certainly love to have special events and invite our resident families, friends and community in regularly.  We celebrate all of the holidays here with fun parties, including Mardi Gras, St. Patrick’s Day, Cinco de Mayo, the Superbowl, and the list goes on.  We often have musical performances come in to entertain the residents, as well as Santa Claus and the Easter Bunny.  We also enjoy outings to various points of interest in the area, including Mozingo Lake Recreation Park, the casino, Conception Abbey, and more.  Our goal is to enrich our residents’ lives so that they are thriving at any age!

Accepted Answer

Our Director of Nursing assesses each resident upon admission to our community and creates an Individual Service Plan based on that assessment.  Our Activity Manager performs a cognition assessment on both our Memory Care residents and Assisted Living residents, in order to establish a baseline cognitive level at or around admission.  Ongoing assessments are completed as needed or when changes are observed by staff that may require changes to the Individual Service Plan to ensure resident needs are being met.

Oak Pointe of Maryville is not directly affiliated with any hospital, but we are located 2 miles from the regional hospital and its clinics, St Francis Hospital & Health Services.  Residents may utilize the physician that makes routine rounds at our community, but they may also keep their own primary care physician of their choice.

Oak Pointe of Maryville provides staff for our Memory Care neighborhood 24-hours a day.  The staffing is directly tied to the number of residents who make their home there.  Oak Pointe of Maryville ensures that we meet or exceed all required staffing for our Memory Care neighborhood.

Accepted Answer

Our Activity program in Memory Care is designed to engage residents and focuses on finding ways for our residents to be successful.  This is done through intentional planning of activities that the residents of Memory Care will enjoy.  Common activities include Zingo, UNO, crafts, baking, balloon volleyball, community walking, spa day, pet therapy, and musical performances.  We use reminiscence therapy to stimulate the residents’ long-term memories, as well as “this day in history” games and our talk and toss ball.

Oak Pointe of Maryville ensures that our caregiver-to-resident ratio meets or exceeds required State of Missouri regulations.  Our ultimate goal is to ensure that each resident receives the care and supportive services they need to maximize their independence while living in our community.

Accepted Answer

Our dining program offers restaurant style dining through serving a variety of entrees primarily catering to the tastes of a midwestern population.  We offer a large breakfast menu, made fresh to order, with breakfast specials throughout the week.  In addition to our daily specials, our residents enjoy several options to choose from on our alternate menu including heart healthy selections such as chef salad, grilled white fish, grilled chicken, fresh fruit, etc.  And of course desserts are always on the menu!

Each staff member is trained to be prepared to work with residents living with dementia.  Beginning with orientation, our team is provided training on effective approaches, understanding behaviors, and how to effectively communicate with dementia residents.  Our state guidelines require that we provide an ongoing program of dementia care skills training for all staff, both in our Memory Care and in our Assisted Living.

Resident safety is a high priority at Oak Pointe of Maryville.  We offer 24-hour staffing with emergency call lights bedside and in bathroom that alert staff when a resident needs assistance.  Emergency pendants are also available at an additional cost.  Our main entrance locks down in the evening that requires a pass code or staff assistance to enter the community after hours.  We are also monitored 24/7 by security video cameras to ensure the safest possible setting for each of our residents.

Our community is also built to the latest in fire safety standards with a fully integrated alarm and sprinkler system.

Resident safety and security are a priority for the Oak Pointe of Maryville team.  Safety measures include sign-in and sign-out logs at the front entry, all entry and exit doors are alarmed and linked to staff pagers, and video security cameras are placed throughout the community.  Our front doors are locked in the evenings until the next morning, requiring pass code or staff assistance to enter the community.  All other doors remain locked at all times and require a passcode or staff assistance to gain entrance.  Residents with a known history of wandering are referred to the care of our secure Memory Care neighborhood.

Resident families are kept updated about the resident’s health and Service Plan by our Director of Nursing.  The Director of Nursing spends time learning about each resident’s individual needs and preferences and creates an Individual Service Plan based on this information.  This plan is reviewed on a regular basis and updated to reflect any changes.  Our Director of Nursing is available to communicate through phone, text or email to discuss each resident’s health and wellbeing.

Meals are served in a family-style setting in our Memory Care neighborhood.  We carry an alternate menu in our community, but we tend to not overwhelm our Memory Care residents with too many food options.  Instead, we learn the likes and dislikes of each resident so that substitutions may be made in the meal based on their preferences.

Oak Pointe of Maryville lies on the western edge of Maryville just south of Northwest Missouri State University and the Maryville Country Club.  We refer to it as being where the city meets the country because we have residential neighborhoods to the north and east of us, but farm land to the south and west of us.  It’s a truly beautiful setting.  We are a short drive to any Maryville shopping, restaurant or other attraction.  The population of Maryville is about 11,000 and is located in the northwest corner of the state, just 40 minutes from St. Joseph, and 1.5 hours from Kansas City or Omaha.

Oak Pointe of Maryville provides complimentary transportation service on our wheelchair accessible shuttle to and from doctor visits on Monday and Thursday, 10am-4pm as well as a regularly scheduled weekly shopping trip.  We charge a small taxi fee of $3/loaded mile on Tues, Wed and Fri from 10-4.

We are on the western edge of our rural community, just south of Northwest Missouri State University and the Maryville Country Club.  We are just minutes away from local shopping and downtown Maryville.  Mozingo Lake Recreation Park is about 10-15 minutes away by car.

Accepted Answer

The residents at Oak Pointe of Maryville come from different backgrounds and life experiences.  With Maryville being an agricultural community, we have several farmers, as well as professors, home makers, engineers, and other professionals.  Our residents typically come to us from Maryville and the surrounding areas, usually within 30 miles of our community, although we’ve had several relocate from out-of-state.  Currently, our average age is 90.  Cards and dominos are popular among our residents, as is visiting at the café, exercising, playing games, afternoon drives and social events.

Accepted Answer

Oak Pointe of Maryville is a pet-friendly community and we understand that our resident’s pets are family.  Dogs and cats are welcome; however, must remain inside the resident’s personal apartment.  All pets must be leashed when outside the resident’s apartment, in common areas, or outside on the grounds.  We request that each resident and/or a family member ensure the care of the pet.  Pets are not allowed in the dining rooms at any time.

Both new hire training and our ongoing continuing education programs include topics related to Dementia and the Cognitively Impaired, Fire Safety and Emergency Preparedness, Infection Control, Food Safety, Confidentiality and Safeguarding of resident information, and Customer Service.  Ongoing training is provided to staff through on-site in-services and online continuing education.
