I visited this facility

I was impressed with Shorewood Senior Campus. I got the feeling that they're short-staffed. Residents have to be high functioning in their Alzheimer's to go there. The staff answered questions. The rooms were nice. You had your choice of studios all the way up to one-bedroom apartments. For activities, going by their sheet, they try to engage the people as much as possible. They have a courtyard where they said they plant a garden every spring. It's a private facility, so it does not take state funding.

My mother-in-law moved into Shorewood Senior Campus. It's top-notch from the way they care for the facility, the help that we've encountered so far, the people that work there, and all that. She's in a studio apartment, but she's on a waiting list for a one-bedroom apartment. So the studio is 400 and some square feet, but she'll be going to something bigger when they become available. We found the staff to be very cordial, very helpful, very friendly, and we found it quite a pleasant experience. There's a meal plan. She doesn't eat three meals a day, And there are facilities that she can cook on, a refrigerator, and all that in her room. So she's only going to take meals occasionally. But several of us have eaten there a couple of times since she's been there. And we've found the food has been quite good.

I visited this facility

We toured Shorewood Senior Campus. My aunt liked that it was not quite as big. It's still a good size, but not as big. She liked the cabinetry. She just liked the units, and she felt that they were a little homier. The staff were very nice, very helpful and answered all our questions. The rooms were very nice. We saw several different layouts. She liked the layout of the apartments; she just really liked it. One big thing they have there is an attached fitness center for the residents to use. It includes an indoor swimming pool. The place was very nice. The one thing that we didn't like was the dining options. The time of the dining options was a lot more limited than in some other places. You had a certain seating at a certain time, and you needed to be there at that time whereas at the other place their dining schedule was more flexible.

I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

My sister-in-law has moved into Shorewood Senior Campus. It's a very friendly atmosphere. It's cheerful, but it's not quite modern industrial like some of the newer places are. It's a little more homey and cozy. The people are friendly. They offer lots of different activities and things. They have a pool and PT is available. Her room is extremely clean and large compared to the other ones that I looked at. She has a functional kitchen if she wants to cook. They offer things kind of ala carte. If you need them, they'll start out giving you more services. If they see you you're on your own for a certain thing, they take the charge off as you progress getting better and better, assuming you'll be leaving. She's there as respite care, waiting for her wrist to heal. I can't say enough. It's not home, obviously, but she's only been there two days and it's very comfortable and it's extremely clean. We've been visiting quite a lot and we were there a couple of times before she moved in. They have full service, and they have regular apartments. We know people that live in regular apartments with no care and they have the same kind of meal plans and all that. She has a studio, but it's large for a studio. It's kind of in an L-shape and they supplied all the furniture, toaster, coffeepot, flashlight, anything you need when you move in there as a respite. You didn't have to bring anything but your own personal toiletries and clothes. They have sheets, towels, and dishrags. It's kind of like moving into a very nice hotel that's like an extended stay. We saw people going on rides and scheduled trips. They have an exercise room and a library. The meal plans can be ala carte or you can just go on your own and pay for them as you go. They have around-town bus routes for your appointments or whatever. It's a huge place, but the extended care is small. They have escorts to the dining room. Each thing is kind of ala carte. You can have a lot of care or not so much. I'd go there in a heartbeat. I've only seen the staff a little bit, but they're all talking to each other, talking to the people, talking to us, and they're very friendly, cheerful, and look happy. So far, so good. My sister-in-law said she got a good bath and so far, everything she's needed has been met. It's big, but it's convenient. They have escorts if it's too far away for you, but there seems to be a lot of outdoor space you can get to, like little places to sit outside with fences around them, flowers, and good views from every room, and the hallways have nice parlors at the end where you can look out over some greenery. It's not like you're tucked into a big city. It's very pretty outside. There's more value for your money because things are given to you at the level you need. It's not like you're paying for all the meals and you don't want to eat in the cafeteria every day. Everything is kind of a choice and that can change during the month if you don't need it. You can have a lot of help at first and then as the month goes on, you can have less and they deduct. Everything I see there is good.

I visited this facility

My mother-in-law is moving into Shorewood Senior Campus. She's waiting for a room to open up. It's nice, updated, open, welcoming, and not so cramped. The walkways are wide. There's a lot of light. There's a lot of little areas (like nooks) where family members could sit, chat, or just enjoy the sunshine. The staff was very friendly and understanding. There was no opening, so the lady who did the tour had communicated with two members that were currently living in there; we got to tour their apartments. The rooms were nice, bright, clean, and updated. It didn't feel like you're stepping back in the 70s or anything when you walked into the rooms. One feature that one of the attendants had pointed out, which I've never even thought much of, is that the outlets were a little bit higher. When you're going to go plug in the vacuum cleaner, they're more waist height versus 6 inches or a foot off the ground. The rooms were laid out very nicely. The dining area was very spacious. You had a meal plan you could partake in. You could do ala carte and you could order off a menu. It was a nice option if you needed to mix it up or didn't like what was offered for the day. They have a really nice fitness center, so if somebody is still very active, there's a lot of state-of-the art equipment. For those who are not into the equipment, they have a nice little room where classes are offered; you can find something for all different levels of fitness. They have an indoor pool and a nice locker room. They have a nice community room where different groups meet. There's a crafting group and a sewing group. Everywhere we went, it was clean, neat, up-to-date and very spacious. It didn't feel like you were crammed in this little room in the corner with no windows. It was nicely laid out. They have a parking garage for those who are still driving. There is an extra fee, but they had indoor parking. The backside of the building butts up to a new park. The park has a lake, so there were some beautiful views from the backside of the building. There's sunshine in the front and beautiful views in the back. When we called, everybody was super friendly. The staff sent me some links to say, "Hey, go online. Check it out. Here are some videos. Here's the pricing, so you can start thinking about it. When we meet, you can have some of those questions ready." There were different floor plans. When we got there, the staff at the front desk was very friendly. The staff during the tour was right there waiting for us, just super friendly and didn't rush anything. All the people that we met on our tour were super friendly, told us about the place, how they love it there, and their experiences. From staff to the residents, everybody was just really nice and very informative.

We liked the apartments that Shorewood Senior Campus had. They had a great gym, a beautiful walking path, and activities. They have a waiting list, but my brother is in no hurry, so that's fine. They showed us a one-bedroom with a den and it was very spacious and clean. They have a health and wellness club, a hot pool, a library, a beauty salon, a barber shop, they furnish so many meals, and then if you want to get extra, you can. They also have a lake right by the walking path and a card room. It was just a nice, clean, and friendly place. They had a lot to offer, and the price was reasonable.

Shorewood Senior Campus is superb. They know everybody, everybody is very friendly, and they take time to explain everything very well. They take care of the place very well and they take care of the people like they are people so I'm very impressed. I kind of had a little problem with the kitchen staff but it's fine because they have excellent food. The facility is very clean too. For what my mother-in-law is getting, the money is well worth it.

Shorewood Commons Assisted Living was a three-story and elongated with different sections. The rooms were excellent. Right behind was a nice large pond-like lake. It's an excellent place. If I were to go tomorrow, that's the place I'd go to. Everything's good. They give you meals, but they have a nice kitchen area in each apartment, so you can cook your own. They have a gym and staff who will teach you and get you into the exercise programs. They have a swimming pool. It's the best one we visited. They have memory care and they have a nurse on-duty all the time. The residents loved it there. The backroom overlooked the park and the lake. They have bus service to stores like Target. I have a few friends in there.
