We toured Rakhma Peace Home. That was lovely. It's actually where we started. I think they had seven residents and one opening, so it'd be eight, I think total of all women. They were conscious of women's needs if they had a traumatic history so they wouldn't want to be housed with men, especially with dementia or memories of trauma, a traumatic history. So that was something I thought they had a good awareness of. They talked amongst their staff and said that because it's my sister who wants socializing and wants to be with people and talk to people, they recommended the Peace House as having residents who were more able to do that and meet her needs. We wanted to tour it because they thought that she could socialize more there. They have both private rooms and shared rooms. They were very small rooms, so the larger rooms were shared. They could have some personal items, a dresser, and a bed, but very little. They had big, large, shared spaces. Televisions on both floors with large shared spaces on both floors. They had a kitchen on both floors too. It felt like a home, and around-the-clock nursing care was available. It's an older home and a Victorian home. I noticed that the downstairs bathroom was accessible, but the upstairs bathroom was not, and they said that they were working on that. They're changing these as they're able to.

I toured Rakhma Peace Home and what I liked best was the homey atmosphere. I was only there for less than an hour, but the staff was welcoming. Plus, they looked happy and that was important to me. I met about three or four residents, and they all seemed happy and engaged. They were laughing and talking. It has a sort of loving, warm, family atmosphere. It's a very unique home because it was built as a house. It was transformed decades ago into a duplex so there is a kitchen upstairs and there's a kitchen downstairs, a dining room upstairs, and a dining room downstairs. There are only two bathrooms, one up and one down. I think there are six or seven residents. They have narrow, dark stairs and that's what prevented me from pursuing it. I didn't think it was safe for my sister to navigate narrow, dark stairs in the middle of the night or the middle of the day. They looked and felt dangerous. They wanted her to share a room, but the room was the size of a walk-in closet, and I don't see how she could have shared that with another person. That would have been terrible. I also think it seemed a little risky to have people with dementia have access to kitchens, stoves, and burners. The person who took me on a tour was good.

Some of the most caring, loving, nicest people I have ever met. The way they take care of my mom is amazing. They really love and care about everyone in the house. They treat everyone there like family. In my mind, they are all "angels". I'm sure my mom would not be here today if not for those caring, loving, amazing caregivers. They are family and I love and respect each and everyone of them. Cheers!

We are so fortunate to have found this place. My wife is very social and needs to have people around. She would have had a very difficult and miserable time staying in the typical "hotel" like environment which is characteristic of so many senior assisted living facilities. Rakhma is just perfect - a small number of residents and staff is there round the clock every day. They have access to nursing staff and an affiliated doctor. Instructions to the staff are quite detailed and tailored to each resident. You can provide them guidance for the needs and care of your loved one. More importantly, this residence lives up to it stated ethos of unconditional love, which I understand is the meaning of the name Rakhma. Everyone on staff is loving and caring. It takes a very special person to not only work in but to thrive in an environment caring for elderly persons. Rakhma is really good at finding staff who show love and respect. The leadership tolerates nothing less. Care partners are free to come and go at the home. In particular I appreciate that I am able to join my wife for a meal most anytime without it being an extra charge. I can also join in their frequent outings. Even with all their services, the costs are most reasonable. You would be hard pressed to find a better place for your loved one needing round the clock supervision and care.

Rakhma is great, and we love the people there, but we can’t afford it. Rakhma is more of living in a house, but it is not a Veterans Home. It’s clean enough. It has a lot of love, care, and attention. They have 24/7 nursing and assisted care. People come in and provide entertainment, and they have a van that takes them to places. It’s a secure facility.
