It sounds like you were given a tour of both our Clare Bridge memory care community and our Wynwood of Utica assisted living community which are located very close to each other. Both are completely self-contained and residents do not go back and forth between the communities. Please be assured that the safety and well-being of our residents is our first priority and we share their concerns as well as the concerns of their families. What ongoing training does the staff receive in dementia care?
Ongoing monthly in-person training.
How many staffers are on duty in the daytime and overnight?
Staffing is based on resident acuity so can fluctuate but typically there are 6 care associates in the morning, 5 in the afternoon, and 4 overnight.
What programs or activities does Brookdale Utica (Memory Care) offer to keep residents engaged? How does the staff engage residents' long-term memories?
Our Clare Bridge Daily Path encourages residents to do more physically and mentally stimulating exercises in the morning and more relaxing in the afternoon and evening. Our staff learns each resident's life story so that they can appropriately engage with them. Residents enjoy fitness programs, trivia, sing-alongs, crafts, gardening and baking.
Who assesses residents' health and cognitive functioning? How often is that assessment repeated?
Our Health and Wellness Director (who's been with us for 18 years!) assesses our residents' health and cognitive functioning. We complete assessments prior to move-in, 14-30 days after move-in, and every 6 months thereafter or as needed due to a change in condition.
What techniques does Brookdale Utica (Memory Care) use to support memory care residents during mealtimes?
Most residents eat together in the dining rooms to help with socialization. Meals are supervised and assisted by care associates; we accommodate many different diets including finger foods, pureed, and supplements. We encourage as much resident independence as possible but can help to feed residents as well.
How does Brookdale Utica (Memory Care) keep residents' families informed about their loved ones' health?
Our staff is always available to resident families; we update families by phone and/or in-person meetings.
