My mother was a resident here for 3 1/2 years. Facility is old. Rooms are very small. Food was okay, but constant problems getting it while it was still warm. My mother and I reported problems numerous times, especially regarding care issues and treatment by the aides. They were almost always short on aides in the evenings and weekends. Very few of the aides showed any compassion. Many complained about having to help so frequently. There were two LPNs that were excellent, Donna and Tyree. I could never in good conscience recommend this place to anyone.

This facility doesn’t even deserve one star. I wouldn’t place my enemy here. The social worker, Holly, did not follow through with things that were supposed to be done. The nursing unit manager, Nina, did not do what she was supposed to do. My dad has esophageal cancer and orders to dry up the mucous he was choking on took three weeks, basic care wasn’t given, some staff were exceptionally rude. When we transferred him out of there they couldn’t find his clothes and didn’t send him with any of his medications even though Holly said they would. He was a full code because they couldn’t email me paperwork to electronically sign (I live out of state). The list of inadequacies is too long to list. Run far away from this place.

THE ROOMS ARE PAINFULLY SMALL BUT IF YOUR OUT BED AND SHARING WITH OTHERS IT'S NOT SO BAD. SOME MEMBERS SHARE TALENTS AND TEACH THE SKILLS OF THEIR CRAFT. THE STAFF HERE I SAY IS AWESOME, YEA ON THE AIDES OR UNIFORMED STAFF THERE ARE A FEW WHO ONLY CARE ABOUT GETTING DONE FOR THE DAY BUT. OUTSIDE OF THOSE FEW THE STAFF IS THE BEST TO BE FOUND. THEY ARE SO ATTENTIVE TO ALL OF US PATIENTS. IF YOU NEED A NURSING HOME, YOU WOULD GO WRONG IN APPLYING HERE.

My mother in law has been there for almost 2 years, she has had great days with the staff. nurses come an go we understand that. She has had to call home several times for help or crying! She shouldn't be told she has to sit in soiled pants until someone can get to her. My husband sat on the phone as she cried.( We live a hour away.) Took the nurse 26 minutes to come an change her. You would think that would be a top priority! Another nurse could of helped. Or Anything. This isn't the first time issues have happened here with her! She had to have surgery it got infected so bad coming back to the home that she had to have another surgery an a drain tube placed. And bathing more often could of helped prevent the infection.Hope others are being treated better.

My mother in law is at the Laurels. It's an older building, they have done a lot to keep it clean, and the rooms are small. There's 2 people to a room. The nurses care for her, talk to her, and they are patient. They have Bingo, movie day, physical therapy, and ice cream socials.

My mother was at this facility for a few months. They kept giving her a deadly combination of drugs that are prone to cause seizures in the elderly. I had to finally hire a paralegal to write a letter, which stated that they will remove that combination from her regimen of medications because it is know to cause seizures. I read this letter to the head nurse in my mother's room with my mother present. They still refused to change the order. Two weeks later my mother had a seizure and was admitted to the hospital, from where she did not return to that place.

The Laurels of Hudsonville accommodated my mother's needs for a private room and a private bathroom. The staff was caring, well qualified, and responsive. When she had concerns or we had concerns, they listened to us. They were very good.
