We chose Thornapple Manor for my grandfather because this is a nursing facility with memory care. They are an Eden community which means that the staff is specially trained to care for the elderly. It's like an additional certificate that they have. They include the family, they care for him in a specific memory care facility so that they have activities like bingo, games, music therapy, and art therapy. And they try to include families in those activities as well. They have an exercise facility that he can use. They also have a massaging spa tub that he can use. They've been excellent. They are expensive but my grandpa is well taken care of, so the value of that is priceless and they do a great job.

Thornapple Manor's rehab was really good. I would recommend them to anybody who doesn't have home support. Most of the staff is friendly and helpful, and they tried to be accommodating. They allowed my mom to stay with my dad until she had an asthma attack. They said it wouldnt work if they have to take care of her too. She didn't stay after that, but it was still very helpful. They were all private single rooms that were very friendly. Their beds were very good for the elderly because they go all the way down to the floor, so we didn't have to worry about dad trying to get out of bed. All the rooms come alarmed, they're a good size, and they have bathroom facilities in each room. There are also big windows where you can watch the birds and wildlife, and the accommodations are very nice. My father reluctantly participated in the activities, but he enjoyed them once he moved in. We've only had one issue with them. The food is pretty good considering it's institutional food. They're very accommodating and will fix you something if you don't like what they're serving. It's a very well-kept place.
