Memory Care Communities in Avon, OH

"So far, Vitalia Senior Residences at Westlake is good. My mom has been there, and it took a little while for them to get their act together with the pills, like getting them to her the right time and all that, but I think that straightened out. Otherwise, I think everything's fine so far. They have a combined studio, which were two studios with the door in between, making it two rooms. It is actually bigger than a one-bedroom. My mom lived five minutes away from the place, so she's familiar with the area too. We had lunch there and the food was fine. They have this little bus that they use to take them shopping or to other places, like they went to a Chinese restaurant the other day. She's too new to be doing this, but they have a happy hour, people that come and sing, some entertainment out in the courtyard, and lots of activities. They're short on staff right now, but that's not just their problem, it's everybody's problem."

"We checked Vitalia Active Adult Community North Olmsted. It's way too far out and way too much traffic; but otherwise, it was absolutely gorgeous. They have wonderful staff, wonderful facility, and beautiful apartments. It would have been a perfect place for my parents if it was not too far out. They have another assister building not too far away that is a skilled nursing home, but it's not on the same site. We would have physically had to move my parents about 10 miles for the next step down. They are connected to each other literally through a walkway. They actually have not officially opened their assisted living yet. There are only two people living in that facility right now because they were waiting for their license to get there. Then they have seven others to move in there, and then they have lots of rooms available. We did get to tour it, but they weren't going to be ready for more people to move into like the beginning of September. As far as their full meals, the kitchen was not up yet. The residents that were living there were in the assisted living side. It's a brand new building, and they have just finished building it. They had two people on that side working full time: a nurse and a nurse's assistant. They had an activities person over there working right now. We met everybody that was there at the time, and they were fantastic. The distance is the problem; it is way too far, and it is really in the middle of nowhere. It literally is on the North Olmstead-Westlake border. The problem is it's in the middle of a MetroPark, and there's really nothing that they could walk to to do anything. There's a very busy road that runs right past it."

"My dad has been a resident of Danbury assistant living for 5 years this November 2024 . It took some time for dad to get adjusted however once he made friends and got involved in the many activities he became content everyone is so nice to my dad , the care from the nurses , front desk , housekeeping dining room and chef Amy . It’s amazing the work it takes to care for the residents at Danbury! It is very much appreciated by my dad and myself , Thank you a very much ! Since Kim has been at Danbury I have seen a a great change also ! Keep up the great work to all it does not go unnoticed"

"I saw the memory care at Bickford of Rocky River. They just gave me a tour of the place. The girl answered my questions to the best of her knowledge, as far as I'm concerned. She was working at the front desk. I was looking for respite for a week, so they showed me, and I told them that my mother would need to be in the memory care unit in a locked-down area. I don't need for her to be in a regular room and find her way out the door, because it's easy for them to do. The one thing I didn't see too much was the staff taking care of the residents. Of course, they could have been in the rooms with them. The rooms were OK and nicely sized. My mom wouldn't need a big room anyway. She just needs a bed to sleep in, a closet to hang her clothes in, and a bathroom to use. Everything else is outside. They had their meals in the dining room, and she said they have activities. She just filled me in with those kinds of things. They had a beauty shop there, a spa room, and an area where you could go wash your clothes, but they would have to do that for her. They have activities and physical therapy too. For a week, I don't know how much they can do with her, but the thing is just to have a safe place for her to be for that week. The girl who took me around just filled me in with little bits here and there about the place and what they do. She did all right with the touring and just letting me know they have activities, ice-cream socials, popcorn, movie nights, and bingo. It's a nice place. It's like an old Southern type of a house, and it's not a big place. It's not been added onto or anything. The surrounding area was very nice. They keep it up with flowers. It's very homey."

"My mother is in Symphony. The people seem very nice. She has not been there very long, but I can tell it is a first-rate place. The cleanliness is first rate, and the food looks good and well prepared. The staff is very friendly and cares about their business. "

"It was close to my sister. It was clean. Everybody seemed nice and friendly. The person showed us everything even when we didn't have an appointment and talked to us for a while. It was great. "

"I liked it a lot, but the apartments were too small. Everybody seemed very nice, and from what I saw, there would be no problem. However, after we saw the size of the rooms, we didn't go into any more detail. The location was good, and the amenities that they offered were good. The only complaint I have was the size of the apartments. Also, they allow pets, but the problem is come winter with the snow and everything, neither my husband nor I would be able to take the dog outside for a walk or even on a leash. They had no place that you could just let the dog out where it could be fenced in. "

"I went to Vitalia Senior Residences at Strongsville. It was nice and well maintained. It's newer, they have a few of them, so my description of it is that they have it well organized and they did adhere to COVID compliance and protection for any visitor that came in. So I'll be assured that you'd be OK taking a tour at this time. The staff was very nice, very informative, very empathetic, and we used the word very, quite a bit because they did their due diligence. I did not see any activities because I was directed strictly into their memory neighborhood due to the diagnosis of my father. They customize activities for that individual and the family as far as what that person can do. The area which I toured was very quiet and a lot of things were shut down because of the COVID situation. They were still following COVID protocol, and not opening common areas, so I didn't see anybody. I was informed that they seem to do individual accommodation, they referred to them as apartments, and they were quite sizable. You have to supply everything, they don't supply anything. It's an empty unit and then you would supply whatever personal items, everything. The dining room is extremely different in the memory neighborhood versus the assisted living. Assisted living is quite elaborate. It looks like a little hotel or restaurant. The memory is more like a little kitchenette, not much. They have twenty-five patients in the unit and it's run by one nurse and three aides. It's very clean, open quarters, and it's quite different from the others I've seen."

"We chose Brooklyn Pointe for mom. I liked the cleanliness, the personable experienced staff, and qualified staff. The staff who gave us the tour had a positive attitude and clean hygiene and was professional. The rooms were clean, modern, up-to-date, and new. The dining area was clean and open space and had a friendly atmosphere."

"For 2+ years, my aunt, who was well into her 90's, resisted every attempt to get her to move to an assisted living facility. Understandably change was very difficult for her and she had a fear of "nursing homes". Over those 2+ years we had toured every assisted living facility in the Parma area. Finally she agreed to move to Vista Springs Living Greenbriar and we moved her quickly before she could change her mind. Of course it took a couple of weeks for her to adjust but soon she was looking forward to playing bingo, watching movies with new friends and enjoying all the special entertainment and party events. Most of all, she loves the staff, who are so friendly and caring and go out of their way to make her feel special. They have reacted quickly to her medical needs and kept her spirits up. I live in a different state than my aunt and was very worried whether this was a good move but she transitioned better than we expected and I've been very happy with communications with the nursing staff. My mother spent 10+ years in a very highly rated (and ridiculously expensive) assisted living and then skilled nursing facility in my state but it wouldn't compare with the quality of life available at Vista Springs Greenbriar. "

"My father moved into Cardinal Court. We like it. He seems fine. The staff is very caring and very patient. They have the residents' best interests in mind. The food is actually good because I was there with him for several days making sure he's settled in. They have an activities director, and I would see her doing different things with them. They have arts and crafts, chair volleyball, and exercises."

"My mom has moved into Vitalia Active Adult Community at North Royalton. It's beautiful, it's brand new, and it's very light and inviting. When we were looking for places, the staff were very helpful and very responsive. My mom's room is a studio. It's small but spacious. It's enough for one person, there are lots of light and it has a nice big bathroom. She's been there for two or three weeks now. When she got there, she had COVID, so she was isolated. They have amenities. They have an exercise room. They have a theater. They have a library and gathering area. They have a patio, so there are lots of nice spaces. I have tried the food and I thought it was very good. However, I've struggled a little bit with maintenance. When we need something done, it takes a bit of time. "

"My wife is in Arden Courts. Everything is good. They serve good food and have activities, like musicals and crafts classes. They check on the people every hour and know their people because it's like being at home. They seem to have a good rapport with their people. "

"My mom moved into Evergreen Gardens a few months ago and loves it! The staff is like family and so are the other residents and their families. We just had a Memorial Day cook out with the families and residents and a great time was had by all! Mom says: "I have it all here, what else could I ask for?" It's cozy and homey, so it was an easy transition for her moving from her home. The food is all home-made, fresh every day and they include mom's favorite family recipes. They have cooking and baking activities, which has always been one of her favorite things to do! It's a beautiful, smaller community with the best caregiver-to-resident ratios around, which is important to our family. Mom gets one on one personal attention and care that isn't rushed. She is happy and thriving and that means the world to us! I highly recommend Evergreen Gardens!"
