I would like people to know that the entire staff at Orono Commons goes above and beyond to take care of patients. I can not believe the great care they gave to my mother, They were always attentive, made sure all her needs were met and would even go in and chat with her because she was not able to move on her own. The Administrative staff went above and beyond because of insurance problems and made sure all documentation was sent and that my mother would remain there. My mother just passed away and my family stayed in the room at night. They made sure we had coffee, tea, snacks. Wonderful nursing home!!!! I give it a rating of 10 not 5 stars because of their excellent care, kindness, and attentiveness.

Rooms are small, no decent size nightstand for tissues, pictures ect. As soon as you hit the memory unit, it smells like urine most of the time. Staff is not attentive. My mom has a bad back, it's been broken twice, so sitting in a transport wheelchair is uncomfortable. But since she has Alzheimer's, staff tends to ignore complaints. She slips down slouching off her chair and no one comes to help her get back up. If you get staff, their response is "she always does that!" Duh, her back hurts and she should not sit for hours and hours. The main "activity" room, has on stupid modern tv sitcoms on or modern day movies, nothing older residents recognize or enjoy, do we wonder why they all sleep in the chairs? I've never seen old movies or tv shows to entertain them all. day. long. Severely understaffed, no one answers the phones on a regular basis. If they do and transfer you to the ward, rather than reception, no staff picks up on a regular basis. Beds are old, pillows are old and flat and I was told "well she seems to sleep ok." Really? What choice does she have and anything we send up, disappears. Clothing, bedding, items, all disappear. So it's sad she can have nothing at all and most of her good cloths have disappeared as well. They do not ever go outside on the Alzheimer's unit. Yes they have token activities from time to time but the bulk of the days, are depressing to visit, never mind having to stay there. Sadly mom is to fragile to move or I'd fight to move her. Don't use this place

My sister was at Orono Commons. She was there in rehab recently. She liked it there. Occasionally she had to wait if she rang her bell, but not that often. She liked it there, but she complained a little bit about the food because she's a very fussy eater. The people were pleasant. The place was clean. They're very busy like everybody is. She didn't get up and go to the activities. But I was there when they had a girl playing the guitar one day and singing, and she was very good. Then another day, there was a gentleman, and he was playing music of some sort. I think the value for the money is worth it because she got better in three weeks and was able to go home.

My sister is at the facility due to MS. She has received excellent care and the facility has done an exemplary job fighting against this pandemic. Bless all the staff at the facility for your loving care.

Orono Commons was okay. My mother had been there three times. It wasn't all that great the first couple of times that she was there, but the last time she was there, they had a re-vamp on their staff. There were a lot of people that we didn't recognize from the other two visits. It was way better this time. The rooms were very small. Like for them to have visitors, there was only one chair. Their dining room was very small and very dark. It had one window. However, the place was clean. Actually for activities, they had bingo. They usually had something going everyday. They had done crafts. The girl that does the activities was very good. I had to give her an A-plus. The PT was excellent there. They also had excellent staff at physical therapy. The place was really clean and that was a plus. It was excellent as far as the cleanliness.
