My mother in law needed rehab and they were wonderful and patient with her. They got her to work hard and improve enough to go home. My Grandmother in law stayed there for 8 years and they were wonderful!

My wife has been in Plaza West Regional Heath Center for about a year and a half now. They keep having a change of staff, but they have gotten some young age on that ward where my wife is that is very, very good with them, and that's what I like. Meals are included. Everything is included over there. However, one of the problems we complained about is that the meals are not prepared very well. They have quite a few programs in there. In the memory care part there, they don't have a lot, but the rest of the people out in the main area, have a lot of activities going on for them about every day. They have some kind of a game day, they play bingo, they have Christmas stuff, and they have Halloween trick or treat and stuff like that. When I looked at what it costs at other places, the money value there is very good. In the memory care, they have an outside area. By the large dining room, they have another area outside where they can go out there and grill and that kind of stuff.

Don't put any of your loved ones in there. The rooms are filthy, foods raw, old and nasty. You don't get showers unless your family members complain. They lie to you constantly and shift the blame elsewhere And if you use your call button regularly they make you wait. Some aides act like your bothering them when you call for help. They do have one fantastic aide Kelli shes great and she's the only one who cares in the whole place. The care the seniors/rehab patients get is absolutely horrible

Just spent about 15 days in Plaza West as a patient. Checked in looking to get some help and I sure received it in spades. Compared to food at St. Francis hospital it was way better and they easily accommodated any specific culinary requests. Virtually all of the staff were amiable, easy to talk to, and took their time to listen to what I had to say and could engage with a sense of humor which I find so important. Plus amongst the staff I discovered some truly professional and dedicated individuals who have found their life calling assisting their fellow human beings . Thank you Plaza West for helping me in my time of need

Patient Rooms not kept clean. Run out of snacks for patients always. Example, yogurt, pudding applesauce. Aides are not good with cleaning bed ridden patients after bowel movements causing continued infections like mersa and kidney. Do not bath patients unless the family asks it be done. Leave patients waiting more then 30 minutes to change dirty briefs especially patients with C-diff infection that is so important that they be changed. I was told this facility has a 4 star rating and I am sorry but that is definitely not true. I may need to file a complaint if things do not change with the care of my husband SOON. Terrible facility.

This review is just about the cleanliness, or lack thereof, of patients rooms. The floor in my mother’s room is filthy. Food and drink spills left for days. When i just wiped it, i was disgusted but the dirt that came off the floor. Do better, Plaza West

My sister-in-law was at Plaza West for 3 months. She was in her last stages of the Alzheimer's disease. The nurses were great and very attentive, but he administration and the financial department were ruthless. My brother, had lost his job at a University, due to the Pandemic, and he was also trying to support his wife through all the medical costs. We were eventually able to get Medicaid and Medicare, so we thought great, the burden won't be so horrible for my brother. Well,,,, wrong....Plaza West haunted my brother continuiosly over a portion of the hospital bill. Which was $3.000 dollars in the medical world cost, that seemed minor, but not for them, my brother than told them after continued harassment, he would pay what he could... $200 a month. Well, that wasn't good enough calls still came! Then the horrific moment happened when his wife became dehydrated had to go to a hospital then after she was stable the hospital wanted to send her back to PLAZA WEST AND THEY SAID NO SHE CANT COME BACK TO DIE HERE BECAUSE SHE HAS A $3000 BALANCE! We were sending her back to basically go under Hospice care in her room she had for three month to die in familiar surroundings, but they said "NO"! I was blown away with the lack of empathy and care that was so on display! Where is the humanity in this! My brother is dealing with the diabolical disease and loosing his wife and Plaza West is saying you have a balance with $3,000, so she can't come back here! CAN YOU BELIEVE THIS? I wouldn't have thought this could happen in our country the USA! But I was wrong! So, fortunately, the hospital she was in, helped us find another place to allow her to die in PEACE! I never write reviews, but this was so inhumane, I couldn't allow this to be slipped under the rug!!!!!! Please, this place is obviously $$$$ dollar signs first, than patient than compassion! Do Not Go Here, unless you have lots of money, then you should be fine!!!! We did have insurance, and Medicaid so we were not asking for a hand-out! You Have Been Warned!

My dad was at Plaza West Regional Health Center some years ago, and I also visited a lady there who passed away recently. I've been there many, many times. I went there once a week before the pandemic started, but now they won't let anybody in. I visited a lady from my church there once a week. They were fine. I just went in and visited the lady for 30 minutes and then left. I didn't really have much interaction with other people. There were two people in the room, and it was small, but it was all she needed. She had a lot of things there, pictures and stuff, and it seemed always clean when I went in. When the help came in, they always were very polite. I didn't have any negative experiences there at all. She was in full care. I didn't eat the food there, but I was there many times when she was eating, and they always gave them a couple choices. She seemed satisfied with the food, and it looked OK to me. We'd always ask her how she liked the food, and she always said fine. About every week when I went they were waxing the floors.

Terrible care received by dad during rehab. 1.Our dad fell 4 different times. 2. It took up to 45 minutes for staff to respond to the call light. 3. Gave our dad a sleep aid that caused him to sleep til late afternoon the next day and I think they were afraid he wasn't going to wake up. Dosage was too much for his thin bodyweight. 4. Our dad had to go back to the hospital for dehydration. For a week, daily water consumption was 32 ounces or less. 5. Dressed our dad in someone elses clothes , even though our dad had plenty of warm clothes. 6. Left our dad sit in his room cold, dressed only in a light tee shirt even though there was a warmer sweatshirt available.

We visited a family member nearly every day for over a month. The care was exceptional. The staff were friendly, concerned and helpful. We also frequently observed at lunch and dinner and the food options were usually appetizing. When a resident asked for something not on the menu they were able to fill the request.

My mother was at this facility and the rehab side is wonderful. The regular side is not. I had to stay on top of everything and be there everyday to make sure things were being done properly. While my mother was at this facility one of the aids forgot to put the footrests on her wheelchair and ran over her foot, fracturing it. They gave her medications prescribed by the on staff doctor which sedated her so they would not have to move her as often. When I called her regular doctor he withdrew the meds. My mother could not get her own beverages so she would sit in her wheelchair with nothing to drink until I purchased her a cup holder and cup for her wheelchair and had to make sure it was full of water or juice before I left or she would get nothing in between meals (she could not speak, only write). I found her many times soiled in her depends and she developed a rash from the urine pooling under her. I would not recommend this nursing home although I gave it two stars because I have seen worse!

We moved my mother-in-law there from a nursing facility in Oklahoma City a few years ago. She was deeply into senile dementia and had been in care for several years before the death of my father-in-law and final illness of her son in OKC. My husband took over her care and Plaza West was a new nursing home at that time. I was very impressed with it when we visited before moving her here and that was my feeling for a couple of years but then the new wore off and it was not so great. At first they had a small car in the physical therapy part of the building so that residents could regain their ability to get in and out of a car. When it disappeared I asked an employee what happened to it and was told that it was moved to the next facility the company was opeing in another city and it was just a tool to fill a new place. I would often find Mae soiled and her hands dirty with feces because she would try to pull her pad off. When I complained about it their answer was not to keep her clean but to paint her fingernails dark red so the feces under her nails didn't show. When I told them that was unacceptable, an aid came in to take the polish off and clean under her nails. She was rough and causing Mae pain because she was angry at me for complaining and getting her in troble. Of course I reported her again. Mom was always very thin skinned, dry and itchy and had always used lotion so I bought her a huge bottle of Lubriderm. When it was gone from her room it was located in the bathing room where I was told they were using it on others too. That was nice but if others needed it Plaza should have been supplying it. After her new clothing disappeared over and over I stopped putting her name on a tag on the back and had to put it on the front shoulder where no one else would want to take it home and use it so that was solved. At that time I was a Realtor so was often out and about later in the evening and would drop in to check on her on my way home. I found her up in her wheel chair slumped over asleep at midnight a few times and complained and was told they just had not gotten to her as they put the patients to bed but she was the only one so I again complained and checked on her more often and did not have that problem again. I once noticed that they were billing Medicare for physical therapy for Mae and I questioned them as to what therapy she was getting since I never saw any indication of it. I was told that they worked her joints to keep her from curling up in a fetal position. When she came there, she was fine but later she had to have her leg removed because it was totally stiff and had lost blood flow. When I asked them how it got stiff when they were doing PT on her they said it was not to keep her loose and that it really consisted of rolling a ball back and forth across the table with her. When I asked to see what they were talking about they tried to show me but when the ball was rolled to her she didn't even notice it. I was there one evening when the staff Dr came on the unit and began to question her and other patients about their mood. He asked them if they were depressed for an instance. He really got nothing relevant from any of them and then I was told that he was their psychiatrist which of course was another medicare billing. I asked that Mae not be included since she didn't even know her own name or her own children. We might have needed his services but they were sure no help for her. There were times when nothing much went on but there was plenty of room for concern. Once when we were there fo feed her dinner another man was badly bruised on one side of his head and when one of the male aids came around him he put his hands up to protect himself and began to scram and cry. It was obvious that he was terrified of the employee. My husband went to management immediately to report what we were witnessing and we didn't see that employee again. In a discussion with one of my sisters who worked in a state instituton for the mentally retarded. she kniew that man and he had been fired there for beating up a patient. I made a complaint to the State of Ks about it and they had to review their hiring practices. I really never know what came of it for sure but I'm sure they had to do better back ground checks. Before I went to work as a Realtor I had been a charter member of Kansans for the Improvment of Nursing Homes and a registered lobbiest to the KS House and Senate. Plaza West never knew that about me and I had a reason to report them a couple of other times. I'm sure they never would have dreamed such a thinkg. In more recent years my son who is a nurse was an Auditor for the state of Kansas. He never was able to tell me any details about Plaza West but he never gave an impression it was any different than it had been when Mae was alive. Sadly, though, he said it was not the worst around. If I had been the child instead of the daughter-in-law, she would not have stayed there but I was not the one makeing dicisions so I did what I could to make it easy for her to live out her final days. I think the fact that my job allowed me free time to check in at odd times did help and if you have that option you might be happy with your loved one there. I was not unhappy all the time and there were some wonderful caretakers in a job not many would envy. Just know going in that most of the pretty is on the top to impress the family as it did us. You will have to be able to monitor your loved one's care.
