"I will be moving in. I like the cleanliness, the bright colors, the friendly people, and the overall energy. I chose a 1-bedroom with a living room, kitchen, bath, and balcony. It's an all-new facility, so the apartment was very clean and would be adequate for me. They have a library, a gym, and a screened-in porch for sitting with visitors if you want to. They have two outdoor gathering areas, they have storage units you can rent, and covered parking is available. They have gathering rooms at the end of each floor for family visiting, meals, and so forth with family. I'm excited about choosing that place, and I think it'll be very good for me."

"It looks very nice and very attractive. It smells great when you walk in the door. It smells like freshly baked bread. The staff is friendly. A nurse called me several times regarding mom's medication issues, but that's not the facility's problem. Mom has two little rooms and it's very nice. It's enough for her. The bathrooms are accommodating. There's periodically contact with the doctor."

"Sunrise of Overland Park was good, but they didn't have any vacancies. I would have picked it in a minute if they had vacancies because that was a very nice place. They didn't have any rooms or spaces that were going to be vacant within the next 90 days. The staff was excellent. I even asked questions that I wouldn't normally ask if somebody told me that they didn't have any vacancies. Sometimes you're ready to leave right then, but when I said, "Even though you don't have a vacancy, do you mind if I ask some questions?" she was very accommodating. She walked in and showed me a room of one of the people that was out and they just opened the door and let me look in. I looked at the bathroom to see what that was all about because I think it's important that the showers not be too small."

"After spinal surgery and a stroke, my mother went to Brookdale Overland Park for a month of intensive rehabilitation. Her experience was terrific. The nurses, therapists, and doctors on staff were thorough, professional, compassionate, and encouraging. They took the time to get to know her, and encouraged her in a safe and realistic way. She emerged after one month, competent and confident, and ready to return to independent living. In addition, the facility provided excellent activities and self care services like happy hour, football game viewing parties, and a hair salon, making her time there not just productive but also enjoyable. Finally, the administrative and support staff provided me with the information I needed with regard to finances and continuing care upon discharge from the facility. Overall, I would give Brookdale Overland Park a double thumbs up. We loved everything about it!"

"The representatives with whom we toured at Brookdale Overland Park 119th were very thorough. They also had so many amenities that fit my parents. It was just a very active community, and my parents are very active, very engaged, very social, and want to be involved in everything. That is exactly what this place has to offer. If you go there, you don't have to do those things, but the amount of activities and things to do, and the availability to get around town, just really appealed to my parents. The people that they engaged with on the tour were so excited to meet them and couldn't wait for them to move in. They were telling them to come see their apartments, or that they'll love the second floor, or the fact that you can have a dog and a cat there. Everybody was just super excited, so I don't know how you couldn't fall in love with it. The apartments were beautiful, and we saw all the different options. They had a 1-bedroom apartment, a 1-bedroom with a den, and a 2-bedroom apartment. They just had a wide variety, and within that range, they had different types. For instance, they had 2-bedroom apartments, but they had different types, so they had a lot of options. They provide a guaranteed two meals a day, but it is on the honor system, so if you go down for three, they're not going to."

"My mother was a resident of Morningside Place for 4 ½ years. When I would visit, she would always be clean, comfortably dressed, happy and active, either walking the halls with a friend, enjoying the sun in the courtyard, playing a game or attending one of many planned events. The leadership is committed to engaging the families in facility events and activities and providing information on dementia-related educational opportunities. All of this helps us to better understand what is happening with our family member as dementia overtakes them and how best to engage with them in order to make our final years together as happy and loving as possible. The leadership also holds monthly zoom meetings with directors and family members to help keep families up-to-date on changes in personnel and on upcoming events and allow us time to ask questions and get to know the people who are caring for our loved ones. Morningside personnel deserve an A++ from our family for providing Mom with a wonderful, happy place to live out her last years."
