I went to the Friends Fellowship Community. Outside of the size of the rooms, which were small, I would give them a five across the board, because they were the best. Everyone was friendly. Everybody takes care of you. They have a lot of activities. They transport you for free. They don't charge extra to transport you to places like most of them do. They're clean. They're bright. They're very friendly.

My mother is in independent living at Friends Fellowship Community. The physical appearance is fine. They're struggling, like everybody else, with enough help to keep up things. The grounds are nice and they keep it up very well. The staff members are good, mostly very caring. The services have been largely decreased with Covid. The food's kind of gone downhill in the last few years. They do some things. They have exercise classes and a few activities, but there aren't as many activities as I wish they would have. Her room is pretty good. She's got two large rooms. They can improve the dining experience, the food and try to add some activities, but I know a lot of this is Covid related. It's difficult when you're getting help.

I have lived here in in Richmond for probably 60 years, and I've always known about Friends Fellowship Community. I know a lot of people that have selected it. It's highly recommended here in town. Anyone that's gone there, they have a nice facility, and a lot of amenities, like if you need transportation they have that. Just about anything you could want there, they're there. It's a good size. I know several people that are there, so I just decided that that was probably what I would do. I didn't really meet very many of the staff, it's simply the lady that was doing the tour and showing it to me, but she was very pleasant. They have a very good selection of things that they furnished. It's convenient to get to. It's right off the Chester Boulevard and there's bus service, although they provide service, but it's just very convenient.

Friends Fellowship was a very nice place but just too big and too ritzy. However, it would be our second choice. They have long-term care, assisted living, and independent living on five floors. We’ve been to two funerals there and know people who still live there, but Grandma didn’t want to live in such a big place. They provide everything, like trips out, cleaning, and laundry. It’s an excellent place. The staff was functional and polite. I'd rate it as a five because it’s a well-run business, but it’s not where we want Grandma to be. She did not feel comfortable even though one of her friends lives there.

Friends Fellowship is rather expensive, but it’s a beautiful place, and that’s where locals go. It’s a big place, has been around for years, and has the best people in town. It’s the best you can get.

The amenities that they offer at Friends Fellowship are quite wonderful. They provide three meals a day. They laundry the sheets and towels. They have housekeeping service every other week and they have a driver who will take them within Richmond and also to doctor's appointments, the bank and even back and forth to the hospital. They have church on Sunday morning and Monday through Friday worship. They have a sewing room, a carpenter shop plus typical things like barber shop and hair care for women. They have levels of care beyond the independent living. It's not absolutely perfect but they have gone above and beyond. A lot of my parents' friends are there as well.

Last year my mother, father, and myself visited this community. I was very impressed with the overall experience when we visited. The community is very modern with a well landscaped campus. The nursing units were very clean and well kept. It did not seem like a normal nursing home. The staff ratio we were told was 1 resident to 2 staff. This is the best we have seen at any community we visited. The food seemed very good and had alot of differnt choices to choose from. I looked into the differnt packages and it seemed that these were very extinsive and could fit anyones needs. Now the negatives. The main thing is the cost. This is a private pay community. This mean no medicad. This is what knock my family out of joining this community. The financial situation we were in made this place not a choice we could make. You do get what you pay for.

Friends' Fellowship was a very expensive place to live, but the service and staff were top-notch. The facilities were very clean and my grandma received appropriate levels of care. If she needed help with anything she could call over an intercom and normally would have assistance within a few minutes. There were numerous daily activities available to her which she enjoyed. Typically they had a few activities that were available on the same day each week (i.e. dancing, knitting circle, bingo) and would also have special activities that fit each season (i.e. "a block-party" in the summer, a bus trip to view Christmas lights and decorations at Christmas). My grandma was able to bring (limited) personal effects from home which she appreciated and the furniture, artwork, and design within the building was nice and suited someone from her generation. She enjoyed the food which she could eat in her own room or in a restaurant-like dining room. There were a few negatives. My grandma liked to get to know the staff and there was a high turnover rate. Most of the staff were very gracious and helpful though my grandma did experience a few "rude and snoody nurses." The costs were also very exorbitant. I am not sure the exact amount but my grandma was very well off. She more-or-less spent on remaining life savings. However, she was happy and as part of the agreement if her money had ran out before she died she could still continued to stay there until her death.
