"I'm in Atria Kennebunk. Everything's fine. They're the best staff I've ever had around me. The quality of the food is a three. It's the cleanest place I've ever been in. They clean it so beautifully. There's a lot of things they do here, exercise, movies, crafts, painting, trivia, a lot of games, crossword, and bingo."

"I visited Huntington Common for my father. It was a very nice facility, very friendly, and they had all the amenities that he would need. The staff that gave the tour was very nice and very personable. She answered all my questions, she seemed very caring for the clientele that reside there. I did a tour of the whole facility. The dining area was very nice, they also had like a bistro which was an area that has coffee and snacks and things like that. So that the clients can go there at any time for coffee and snacks in between their regular meals. They had several day rooms, they had fireplaces, there's like a library where there are books and table for games. They also have courtyards outside."

"Ashton Gardens Gracious Retirement Living has 135 units. So, it's a pretty large community. It's 4 floors. I like that the people here are more peopley, like you feel comfortable, and they're easier to get along with. You make friends very easily, and they are very, very helpful to you. It's a very friendly community. I've got a 600-square-foot one-bedroom apartment. It's not as large as what I used to have, but it's a little less money. For me, it's adequate. It has a full bedroom and a bathroom. We have just a little kitchenette where there's a refrigerator and a microwave. We don't do any big cooking because we don't have to. We have three meals a day, and it's restaurant style. You're all waited on and it's a complete three-course meal. For supper, there is soup, a main course, and a dessert. Lunch is a salad, then your main meal, and then the dessert. Breakfast is, of course, breakfast. They're all hot meals and served at your table. They have a very good staff, although the help is a problem. We were constantly losing one of our housekeepers, and it's hard to get that job filled, but that's the same way all over. Other facilities would hire temporary help. They don't do that here; they try to double up, but I've got a wonderful housekeeper. She is excellent. They go all the way to do little things for you. They have a dedicated staff member to clean, vacuum all the hallways, and take care of the public restroom areas. My housekeeper is a very good employee. She was with a company at another facility, and they were purchased by another company. So, she left them and came over here and took seniority with her. She has 18 years of experience. So, she's very loyal and very dedicated, and I get along good with her. They had quite a lot of turnovers in the kitchen for a while. I don't know what was going on. I was unhappy with today's lunch. I didn't think it was adequately cooked. We could do more activities here that are more competitive to get the residents to go down and do them. There's one thing that seemed to go very well: the beanbag baseball, in which we have competition between staff and ourselves. That's enjoyable, and people look forward to it. I think they should have more like that. We have bus rides, too. Sometimes we go quite a distance. Sometimes it would take a 60-70 mile destination to view something. They do pretty well with that."

"We’re going to Atlantic Heights (The Inn Apartment Assisted Living). It had everything; assisted living, independent, and hospice. It’s very clean and well maintained. The staff was very nice to us. The dining facility looked good. I’m planning to have lunch there one of these days. We’ve seen the menu and coffee is there all the time. The accommodations were very nice and adequate for a room. It’s smaller than what we have now but we’re very pleased with it. It’s one bedroom, a sitting room, and a kitchenette. They gave us a sheet of activities. Every day, there’s something going on all the time so we won’t be bored. It’s relatively convenient, about half an hour from where we live now. The main thing is they just have comfortable rooms and good staff. We were very happy with it. "

"I went down and looked at Piper Shores, and I liked the concept. They're the only one in the state that has the continuing care aspect. I also liked the location because it's near my son. The facility was nice. They have a courtyard and a nice pool. They have a cooperative and they make an effort to engage the people who live there in running the place. The resident who showed me around was a complete stranger to me. She didn't show me her apartment, but she showed me someone else's. It's a nice building and a nice location. You get one meal if you're in the independent living building. They had a beautiful dining room. It had a fancy dinner service with a view of the ocean and flowers on your table. They described it as having waiter service. You can order from a menu or you can walk up to the self-serve area. The main building for independent living fronts the ocean. Not all the apartments front the ocean, but most of them at least had a view."

"Sentry Hill at York Harbor has condominiums for assisted living, inns for independent living, and then the memory care is all grouped together. The assisted living building is separate from the independent living building. The place is very clean and very attractive. It has a library, a gym, and a couple of meeting rooms used for various activities."
