Independent Living Communities in San Luis Obispo, CA

"I was able to tour The Villages San Luis Obispo, CA for independent living. It also has assisted living and memory care. Of all the places we visited, this was our favorite, it was beautiful. It didn't feel like you're in an assisted living place when you walk in, it's open and airy. It has two swimming pools, and the downstairs apartments have little patios with their own little picket fences that have an entrance. So it's just adorable and it's very charming. The person who gave us the tour was very personable, very informative, very happy to be there, and enjoys her job. She was wonderful. The apartment was very roomy and nice, they're older but they're doing updates and they're very accommodating. We had lunch there and it was excellent. The people that live there have a community garden, there were lots of areas to walk around. It's very close to businesses, you can walk outside and turn right and go to a store or whatever you would need. People were swimming in their two pools, it was great."

"I am visiting a friend who lives in Cortina D Arroyo Grande, an independent living community. I like that they have a community room, a very nice laundry setup, and an elevator for easy access. They also have gated parking, lighted halls, and security. The floors are hardwood laminate, and the kitchen is very conveniently set up. The place is very pretty. It has a koi pond and a little park in the middle, and it's very attractive. They post the list of activities in the hallway. They do different ones throughout the year, and I've seen a few. They have a wine club and do knitting, crocheting, and baking."

"The rooms at Atascadero Christian Community are nice. One of the girls has a nice studio. She says her room is clean and that it's wonderful. I went over there a few times. The dining room is nice, and the people that I have met are very nice. I have no qualms about it. I can't give any negatives. "

"I have a Auntie that is moving into this senior apartment complex. We met with the manager and toured the property. I feel my family member will be in a safe little community. Yes they are smaller but this is ALL the room she needs. With each room being very spacious for her.... A living room, dining room, kitchen, bedroom and Nice size bathroom! Huge closet! New carpet was just installed and freshly painted. A Recreation room not far from her room with activities thru out the week and a work out area and also a van to take her the places she needs to go also. Quite cozy for her as she agreed coming from a large home that she shared with her husband before his passing. I know she’ll be happy here. Oh also I might add that her bank is walking distance and the local Hospital is right across the street literally. And the manager here I have to say is the best very Gracious person. Thank You!! "

"You own your home here at Quail Run Estates and this is where I've been since 2012. It's a beautiful place. They keep it up very nicely. The people that run it are very nice, too. They have swimming and pickleball. Every time there's a holiday, they have some kind of a big thing. For the Super Bowl, everybody brought something and they watched the Super Bowl at the clubhouse. Yesterday was garbage day. I called and said, "The garbage man came by and put down the garbage can and it fell over and I can't go down there." I explained the situation and they took care of it. It's all done. They make sure that everybody follows the rules. There are no cars on the street (once in a while, somebody visits you for a short time, though). No working on your car anywhere unless it's in a closed-in area like your garage. It's clean. The roads are kept up. Some trees are beautiful in this area. It's just very nice and we're very happy. There are no steps or stairs. There are beautiful patios."

"The restaurant at Merrill Gardens at Santa Maria is pretty much open from 7 in the morning to 7 at night, and I like that feature very much because I don't always feel like eating at a set time. It was very good but what I didn't like it is it's so huge. The staff was very nice. I was impressed with the place."

"We've been living in Quail Meadows East for 13 years. It's a very nice community. People are friendly. We have a clubhouse and a pool, and they have activities. They're modular homes. They have a foundation, and they're anchored to the ground. There are different varieties from 1200 to 2000 square feet, with 2 to 3 bedrooms. They have backyards and front yards, and two, and three-car garages. They have a manager and groundskeepers that do the grounds that are not part of the houses, like the club area. We have our own clubhouse. They have dinners, bingo, exercise programs, and different activities. They have a library. It's a gated community. The rent keeps going up, so that's the only complaint I have."
