"The tour we had at The Oaks at Nipomo was nice. The place was beautiful. The dining room was pretty. The activities director was nice. The rooms were nice, too, but we were looking for a private room and they didn't have any private rooms available in the memory care, only doubles. They were separate rooms, but there was a wall between the two beds. The grounds were beautiful."

"Santa Maria Terrace was clean. The buildings were a little older, but everything was kept clean. The staff during the tour was very friendly and very nice. They have an activity room where they do bingo and shopping trips. The rooms were very small. They're like hotel rooms, so that was not appealing to us. It didn't fit our needs, and they were older."

"We took my parents to see a few places, and Las Brisas was a high enough caliber to suit them. Their room is spacious. They have a large bedroom, a living room, a kitchen, a large bathroom, and their own private deck. They have a chef on staff, so the meals are very delicious. They aren't participating, but they have a lot of activities like exercise classes, crafts, outings, special lunches out, and movie nights. They also have a library. They are safe there, and we don't have to worry about them. "

"We found this communituy for my mother-in-law. I have a very good experience with it. It is very good. The rooms are very nice. There are different options. There are studios and one-bedrooms. The dining room seems very clean, although my mother-in-law doesn’t go down there much. The dining room looks nice and she likes the food. They have different programs going on quite a bit."

"I looked into Merrill Gardens. It was a very nice place but too far away from the people we knew and the activities that we were involved in. I thought the place was relatively new and had been kept up in very good condition. The people seemed friendly and alert. They had a very good selection of activities. They sponsored a very active local bridge game with a number of occupants there and there were also people not living there who came in and participated. The people running the place were very friendly, accommodating, and understood that these kinds of transitions were difficult. I thought they were as supportive as possible. The place was very attractive, physically. "

"I am visiting a friend who lives in Cortina D Arroyo Grande, an independent living community. I like that they have a community room, a very nice laundry setup, and an elevator for easy access. They also have gated parking, lighted halls, and security. The floors are hardwood laminate, and the kitchen is very conveniently set up. The place is very pretty. It has a koi pond and a little park in the middle, and it's very attractive. They post the list of activities in the hallway. They do different ones throughout the year, and I've seen a few. They have a wine club and do knitting, crocheting, and baking."

"My relative liked Santa Maria Studios. They were very nice and very cordial. They showed us around. They were kind to her, and they were pretty knowledgeable about their facility. April was nice. She took us to two different rooms: the laundry room, the gym, and the dog park. It's a brand new building, so it was very nice."

"We've been living in Quail Meadows East for 13 years. It's a very nice community. People are friendly. We have a clubhouse and a pool, and they have activities. They're modular homes. They have a foundation, and they're anchored to the ground. There are different varieties from 1200 to 2000 square feet, with 2 to 3 bedrooms. They have backyards and front yards, and two, and three-car garages. They have a manager and groundskeepers that do the grounds that are not part of the houses, like the club area. We have our own clubhouse. They have dinners, bingo, exercise programs, and different activities. They have a library. It's a gated community. The rent keeps going up, so that's the only complaint I have."

"I went to Hummel Village. It was wonderful, but you have to be able to cook and drive. That wouldn't be wise for me. I'm too close to needing more care so I would have to leave there anyway. You have to be independent to live there. It was a nice place for seniors. It was a lovely place. They have complexes of four apartments and each one has a garage. They have a common area as well. They have bingo, but that's all. This is for people who are really independent whether they're alone or have a spouse. It would be a lovely place to live."

"I was able to tour The Villages San Luis Obispo, CA for independent living. It also has assisted living and memory care. Of all the places we visited, this was our favorite, it was beautiful. It didn't feel like you're in an assisted living place when you walk in, it's open and airy. It has two swimming pools, and the downstairs apartments have little patios with their own little picket fences that have an entrance. So it's just adorable and it's very charming. The person who gave us the tour was very personable, very informative, very happy to be there, and enjoys her job. She was wonderful. The apartment was very roomy and nice, they're older but they're doing updates and they're very accommodating. We had lunch there and it was excellent. The people that live there have a community garden, there were lots of areas to walk around. It's very close to businesses, you can walk outside and turn right and go to a store or whatever you would need. People were swimming in their two pools, it was great."

"I chose Heritage Villas mainly for the price and availability. It’s a very nice place. The apartment is approximately 650 sq. ft. with one bedroom and a dining room combined with an efficiency kitchen. The staff was very helpful and very thoughtful; they got the apartment ready for me, so I’m very satisfied. I fix my own food. They’re very clean and meet my needs. "
