Understaff. Main nurse desk for inquiry, we’re not very informed of what was going on with my mother who came in for rehabilitation / physical therapy for broken femur. Additionally she did have a pressure wound that apparently resulted from her hospital stay. Needed treatment, which they did 1x a week while it required frequent attention. We could never see the treating doctor. She rolled out of the bed twice because of positioning of bed and no type of railing. This resulted in her having to go to nearby hospital for observation. In all fairness we found 1 maybe 2 really caring concerned CNA staff who were attentive and efficient in attending to patient’s need. We never reached physical therapy for injury, and it wasn’t apparent upper body strengthening was being done to help in strengthening just upper body until she had ability to weight bear on leg, and her catheter wasn’t attended to or changed as needed. As a family we decided to bring mom home and setup in-home heath services and therapy. Unfortunately I cannot recommend this facility for services with more than 1 star.

This facility needs to revamp. The staff members do not collaborate with one another

My father stayed at South Holland Manor Health and Rehab Center. I would give them a 1 because the nursing staff pretty much didn't want to be bothered, and the administrative staff was not taking care of their business. For instance, they asked me to bring my father's insurance card, and that maybe he would be able to stay there longer on Medicare. Every time I go there, I'd say, 'Have you processed it yet?' And they sent us this big bill. He had two days that he was there, after Medicare, but the bill that they sent me was not based on using his insurance card, and I was there and I'm like, 'Why do I have this big bill? He had insurance.' They looked in their system and saw he had insurance, but they had not considered it. Something else they did was when it was time for him to leave, they said, 'Even though he's going to another nursing home (because he went over to the other place with my mother), they said they may want to order a wheelchair and a shower chair, and I thought these were coming from Catholic Charities, instead it's some company they're affiliated with, and so we owe all of this money for those items that we thought were coming from Catholic Charities. If it had come from Catholic Charities, it would have been a minimal fee. They didn't let us know that it was going to cost because it came from this organization. He didn't even need it because he was going to another nursing home. Not only that, when you come to the other nursing homes, they have like a log-in where you just press it with your finger. At their place, they are using paper that has been duplicated 10 trillion times. What they could improve with the administrative staff was coordination with the billings. They need upgrades with their sign-in. You come to visit your loved ones and you got a whole page that you got to go through and check, check, check, and check, as opposed to other facilities I've been to that it's all on a tablet and you just use your finger, you click yes and yes and push it with a button. South Holland Manor is still using this antiquated process. Also, somebody was working on the floor, so they had all this gravel on the floor for several weeks working on something in the hallway.

My grandmother stayed at this facility after having open heart surgery. We would regularly visit her to ensure that everything was going well. There were quite a few times that we would come to visit and she would not have been bathed. She was very weak and was unable to bathe herself, so she needed assistance. There were also numerous times that her bedding had not been changed, and it had been over a week. The majority of the time she would not eat, and no one was present to help her to eat or encourage her to do so. My mother and I continually complained to the staff, and the only times that anything was done to remedy the issues we were having was when serious complaints were being filed. Cleanliness of the facility also left quite a bit to be desired. There were some nurses who seemed compassionate and actually did seem to care about my grandmother, but a lot of the staff that we encountered just didn't seem to care about the residents.

They were ok. I felt they were understaffed. The quality and genuine care was inconsistent from shift to shift. Some.staff were busy talking at the desk. We also.had.a situation were my dads.small amount of cash went missing.

After my grandmother had coronary bypass surgery, it was necessary for her to stay at ManorCare. We visited her regularly, and when we would arrive, we had frequent issues with the level of care she was recieving. The level of cleanliness left much to be desired. There was a period of time during which many weeks had passed before my grandmother's bed linens had been changed, and they had to be changed by request. We had to continually remind the staff that my grandmother needed to be bathed, and there were many days that my grandmother did not eat and no one even tried to convince her to do so. When we tried to respectfully address the issues that we had, the staff was very rude and dismissive. I believe that leaving elderly people who are unable to care for themselves to their own devices is not wise, and we would have greatly appreciated much more assistance and a much better experience.
