I moved Mom to the Grove of Berwyn because my neighbor's stepfather was there before, and I used to go up there to visit him. He had dementia as well, like my mother has, so I kind of liked it, and it's not too far away from where I live, so I can go out there every day. It's three stories high. When you first walk in, you walk right through the center, and there are units on either side of the way. You have to be buzzed in with a sliding glass door. So, folks just can't walk in or walk out. The security is pretty good. I like the staff. They appear to be doing what they're supposed to be doing. I'm there every day, so I can see what's going on. I talk to everybody because they're there and they're taking care of my mom. I communicate with them and they're polite and they've taken care of Mom pretty well. I've seen other residents eating their food and they said they enjoyed it. They do activities all the time like bingo and card games. They seem to keep the residents that can get around in a wheelchair or whatever, busy if they want to be busy.

THIS PEOPLE WORKING AT THIS FACILITY ARE EXCEPTIONALLY RUDE. EVERY TIME I'VE CALLED, I'VE EITHER BEEN HUNG UP ON OR TRANSFERRED WHILE I WAS MID-SENTENCE. I CAN'T IMAGINE THEIR CARE WOULD BE ANY BETTER. RUN AWAY QUICKLY!

My brother is currently staying at Grove of Berwyn. I can't go in there, we're not allowed in. The staff member said when I dropped things off for him they had to have a paper signed for that. The staff has always been nice, I could say that. The social worker, kind of overworked, it took a while to get all the paperwork done, but she did it and we did speak, and I understand when someone has a lot on their plate because I think she works at different facilities. Just for the fact that it is a nursing home, there's nothing there for him to do. With nice weather they would let him stand out at the back chairs that they got there. They were taking him to his VA appointments, his medical appointments, and everything. On the whole, I think they're probably better than some nursing homes I heard complaints about, because my brother's not really complaining other than that he wants to get out of there because there's nothing to do, so I guess I would say they're OK. I have nothing to say negative about them. I'm kind of neutral because all of the staff that I talked to were all very nice. They do not have any activities that I know of, there's nothing going on there. Every now and then they have a, I want to say therapist, not that he needs therapy, but they would take him out of the room for exercising so he walks around. There's no reason, physically, for him to be there, mentally either. He just loves to walk around and they had him lifting weights. I thought they might have been based more on somebody that comes to do therapy with other patients and they just kind of dragged him to do some stuff so that he wasn't just sitting there comatose.

Do not send your family here. No hot water for 2 days again m Not tv for the last 4 days with no explanation or ETA 30 minute response time at best when you ring the bell for help (going to bathroom) They Can't coordinate my doctor schedule with me so that I know when to go. Kidney patients beware!! Renal medicine rarely given WITH MEALS as required by doctor.

My great grandma was in this facility for about 3 months. After about 2 month we asked them if they could put up railings to keep her from falling out the bed numerous times. Sooner than later she fail out of the bed because they did not listen to the family and put up railings. Which left her with a not on her head covering the whole right side of her forehead. After she hit her head railings was put up but they were broken and would fall off. They never let her get out the bed which lead her to be unable to walk. She described the food as nasty, she even lost wieght because if we didn't bring her food she wouldn't eat. the place smelled like urine and when people pushed the nurses button they didn't respond for 30-50min. My grandma said " when my family isn't here they don't check on me so please stay". When they came to change the wounds ( her leg ulcers) they would leave the old bandages on the bed side. If the pacient/ your family member is in a non walkable state DO NOT send them to courtyard health care center. Hope this is helpful.
