"My mother is at The Ivy at Hawaii Kai. She came to The Ivy in November able-bodied. She had a fall in February and was on the ground for about 10 hours. She was at a rehab facility but kept her apartment during that time. The Ivy at Hawaii Kai have 24-hour nursing care, which she has used, and I just came to visit her yesterday morning. She has a studio, which is adequate. She just put a hospital bed in her room. The staff is very friendly and very helpful. I just need to go and find out why her safety cord never helped her last month. I believe she fell on top of the cord, and she couldn't reach it. She was on the ground from midnight until the ambulance came for her at 9:00 in the morning, and that's too long. She was in a lot of pain. They have exercise classes and line dancing. They have activities every day in the morning and afternoon, video chair exercise, mahjong, blackjack, Bridge, Big Blue Fitness and yoga, sing-alongs, movies, hula, balance and fault prevention, Bingo, sandy beach walk, and Scrabble. They have a bus on Sunday that goes to church and a Koko Crater Botanical walk. They can go on excursions and choir practice. It's very nice and convenient. The only problem I have is that the elevator has been out. It makes it very difficult for people to get to different floors, and that has been a long-term problem. They have a staff all day long, and I think she gets her room cleaned once a week and her linens done."
