Sadly my Mom passed away on October 3, 2017 after living at Almost Like Home for 5 1/2 years. I have been greatly comforted by the fact I always knew she was well taken care of but now realize how very much she was loved. I always felt guilty because I couldn't be there as often as I wanted but now know the staff and caregivers were her family and that she was home! I will always be grateful to ALH for providing my Mom with a wonderful place to spend the last years of her life. I visited often during my Mom's time there and the house was always clean and well maintained. I had been there many times when meals are being prepped/served and while they are definitely not gourmet, they were nutritious, hot and appealing. They almost always have dessert of some sort and are offered sweet snacks mid-morning and mid-afternoon. I can honestly say it would be hard to find another place that offers the same level of care in the warm and homey environment of Almost Like Home.

I have a loved one currently at Almost Like Home and it makes me so sad when I see how over worked the caregivers are. I have had loved ones in other assisted living facilities and many of the residents at Almost Like Home should not be in an assisted living. The residents that are so aggressive and abusing staff and other residents should not live there. Residents that require 2 plus caregivers to get off the couch should not be there. It is taking away from the residents that can walk, feed themselves, don't throw themselves on the floor and aren't abusing staff and other residents.

Caregivers are not trained well enough, they don't know what to do in a situation and management is not there for them. The meals are poorly planned lot of pasta dishes..not appealing. Residents are ignored, caregivers hardly talk to them or comfort them..not what I call good bedside manner. I wouldn't recommend this place, call you local ombudsman and get a honest review.

Almost Like Home is nice and comfortable. The caretakers are really special. It is clean, and my mom likes it. She has her own bedroom and bath. It is a good place. The overall atmosphere is cheery and bright.

Almost Like Home is a very nice place. It’s where my father is currently. He’s been there since November of 2013. Their rates are currently set regardless of what their needs are on a daily basis. My dad is one of the highest functioning residents there, and a lot of times, I walk in there and they have all the residents seated watching the television. My dad is a lot more physically able and active and needs more stimulation. The other concern I had with it was that there are separate houses and each house is staffed by 2 main staff members. Those poor staff members are required to do all the cleaning, the cooking, and the care of between 8 to 12 residents. It doesn’t leave a lot of time for them to be able to interact with the residents and do memory care activities. They do have an activity director that they just recently hired, but again, it’s one person for 6 houses. I take my father out of the facility a lot because he has the physical abilities of a 50 year old. It’s just mentally, he’s really hurting. There doesn’t seem to be enough stimulation for him. It’s categorized as assisted living, but it’s actually a secured facility. The residents do not have the ability to come in and out as they please. They are under locked premises. When I go there, the meals are home cooked. They seem like they’re adequate, but I’ll take my dad out right after he’s eaten there and he’ll eat an entire meal. I’ve asked them to post the menu so I see what he’s eating and I know what he’s eating, and they haven’t done it. They haven’t posted it inside each home and they haven’t yet posted it on their website, which I’ve asked them twice now to do at the family meetings. If they could improve, I guess it would be segregating out duties. Separate staff for separate duties. Separate cooking staff, separate cleaning staff, and separate caregivers instead of trying to burden the staff with all of those duties. That way, the caregivers would have more time to truly spend time and interact with the residents.
