I was at Berkley West Healthcare Center. They didn't serve meals in the common areas. They gave you meals in your room. I never even knew there was a dining area. I was there for about six weeks, at least. The nurses were a little bit nicer than the other places I've been in. The food was mediocre. I was in a shared room. There is a receptionist right in the front, and then you go straight ahead to the patio, and you turn right to go to the rooms. There were about four rooms in a row. You turn left and the showers are right there, and you go straight to the end of the walkway, and you'll get to the physical therapy room and the entertainment room. It has a giant screen in the entertainment room, which is pretty cool. The staff there was far more pleasant than other places that I was in. They were friendly and they changed frequently, which was hard. They had good physical therapy there. They have a nice patio where people go out and eat usually lunch or some early dinners. They always were cleaning constantly. The girl was mopping all the time and you could eat your dinner off the floor. They had some children come in and sing. They had a hairdresser once a week you could sign up for, and that was excellent. They had a good schedule of activities you could go to. They had a library available. Their physical therapy room was well stocked. They had a nice garden. They had movie night once a week.

Berkley West's staff was very nice and helpful. The food seemed to be very good. The therapists seemed to work with my mother, but they didn't really press her and she wasn't making any progress as far as therapy was concerned. The activities are great and engage people with dementia or had limited use of their arms and legs.
