My husband is in A Touch of Heaven. He was there a couple of years ago. He spent about two months up there or three, and then I brought him home. He did very well. About a month ago, he began to slip back, and now he can't walk. I can't take care of him at home. I'm very happy with it. It's a nice place. It's very quiet. I like the people there. They're very good with him. It's friendly, and it's clean. They're very much on top of what has to be done. They take care of his meds. The food is good. He is always clean. He has a shower a couple of times a week. It's very nice and small. It might have maybe 20 people. I don't think there's any more than that. The price was right for me. They don't have a lot of activities, but he doesn't participate. They have movie night and stuff like that. The women had jigsaw puzzles and they played some kind of a game to make you use your brain. He's got his computer and he pretty much does what he wants to do.

My parents arrived from out of state and the staff was amazing and so accommodating in getting them both settled. They were given a double room so they could still be together and this was a great comfort to both of them. Sadly, my father passed away within 30 days of arrival and we moved Mom to a smaller private room. There is sufficient room for a bed, dresser, night stand and a rocking chair. She is thrilled with the staff as all are extremely caring and loving. The current chef does an amazing job with meal planning and makes every effort to prepare special items she knows residents enjoy. Birthdays are celebrated with a special dessert selected by the resident. Their Christmas party/ New Years Eve party and Valentine's party have been enjoyed by all. The staff is patient and responsive to my mother's needs. They are available 24/7 and call each of the residents by name. Hugs and hand holding abound and my mom feels the love of the staff. Bingo takes place at least 4 times a week and the availability of hair and nail care eliminates the need to transport Mom for these types of appointments. The staff has been very receptive to suggestions and thoughts that would make Mom's stay easier and a bit more enjoyable. It has been a very difficult time for my family and Mom still would love to go back to her home, but thanks to the staff at A Touch of Heaven, her time away from her home has been pleasant and filled with love. A Touch of Heaven feels more like home than hospital and the staff is very attentive to each and every resident

Please reconsider choosing this facility if you want your loved one respectfully treated with dignity. My mother's laundry was seldom done,,,and often her pants smelled of urine. She was rushed to the wrong hospital due to lack of communication among the staff and her medical prescriptions too often misplaced. I apologize if I am being harsh but I am honest and do not wish others the agony and frustration our family went through. There were a few thoughtful and sincere employees;Meredith, Marci , Courtney and the night shift. The manager, Mark has no class and no heart....buys too many frozen foods ...cheap. Best of luck and always trust your Gut feeling.

A Touch of Heaven is a very loving place. All of the residents are given really great attention, and my mom loves it there. The residents, owners, and caretakers are all loving people. It’s a homey, loving, and excellent atmosphere for the elderly. It has a big, main living room, a little living room, and a large kitchen, so she can move around. She's in a wheelchair but can freely move in there.

Three years ago, we selected A Touch of Heaven because it was smaller, and we believed that she would received better care with less people, but I don’t think she has quite received that; it hasn’t lived up to our expectations. For one thing, a lot of her things have never been seen again, including her own personal items; it just disappeared. The rooms were very small; the one my mom is in is designed for two people, and there is just room enough to get about your bed and walk to the foyer, which is only a couple of feet away. It’s pretty cramped. Mom got to a point where she wouldn’t eat because the things that were served everyday included a lot of budget stretching menus like a lot of macaroni, a lot of hamburger, and salad everyday -- not much variation. I think once a week, they have music, and they used to play bingo.
Provider Response
We offer shared and private rooms. Private rooms are available in three different sizes and are priced accordingly. Shared rooms offer an additional savings to families who have limited means or when residents (especially women) enjoy the security and companionship of a roomie. We’ve been told our shared rooms are larger than those found in other facilities. There's plenty of room for dressers, bed-side stands, and an easy chair for each resident.
Bingo is nearly every day after lunch. Live music and Bible study are weekly. Nail care, hairdresser, bi-monthly outings to the resident’s beloved Dollar Store or Nail Salon, movie nights, and the daily ice cream social are all part of our activities.
Our meals are prepared from scratch by our chef who is a culinary graduate with eight-years’ experience in overseeing all dietary/cooking needs of a much larger facility. By design, many our meals are “soft” because as residents age, chewing becomes difficult. We provide an equal variety of beef, pork, and chicken entrees.
Of all things, we defend the love and care we give each and every one of our residents.

The rooms and apartments at A Touch of Heaven are a little small yet still pleasant looking. The biggest reason why I didn't pick this facility is because they didn't have a 24 hour on staff nurse. I was more impressed with having 24 hour nursing staff than when they call a nurse or call the doctor when they need it. The staff seemed friendly. I wasn't really impressed with the dining part of it though. Apparently, there wasn't really a very big variety of choices on each meal. I can't really say anything that impressed me. I wasn't discouraged a lot, but I didn't see anything that impressed me. They could improve the variety of food they offer and also their activities don’t seem to be abundant. They didn't try to impress me with their activities. I don't remember any of them.
Provider Response
We think there might be a confusion about the differences between Skilled Nursing and Assisted Living facilities. By definition, Assisted Living facilities are Non-medical. We follow the orders of the residents' doctors and work with home-health visiting nursing and physical therapists. We do have around-the-clock, 24-awake staff always on hand to oversee and assist residents.
Bingo is nearly every day after lunch. Live music and Bible study are weekly. Nail care, hairdresser, bi-monthly outings, movie nights, and the daily ice cream social are all part of our activities.
Regarding our meals, We offer quite a variety at breakfast. We have a 6-week running menu. The only repeats during those weeks is at the residents’ requests so they have their favorites twice in the cycle. If residents do not like the meal offered, alternatives are provided.
