I visited Aurora Senior Living, a residential care home in Los Angeles. I had an appointment time, but I could not get in because there was a locked gate across it. I called a number that I had, saying I was there, and that didn't work. There was a number on a sign out front, so I called that number and finally got somebody at that number. I said I'm already there, and he said he thought the appointment was the next day. He said he'll be there in about 10 minutes and that he will call the caregiver, and that person will let me in, and she did. The place was clean and nice, but it was like a home that only had six residents, I think. The rooms were very small. I saw a double room, which was not even the size of my friend's current single room. I was also floored that there are older people in wheelchairs and walkers who could step outside the door, because there's a swimming pool there. I thought that the guy who had it thought he had a real palace there, but I think it's crazy to have a swimming pool in this kind of environment. I didn't say anything like that, though, because he also didn't give me the opportunity, and he didn't ask, but that was enough to check it off my list for certain. The caregiver, the laundress, the cook, and probably the one cleaning are all one person, and it was not what I was looking for, for my friend. She was also the medtech and the nurse there, and she was probably about 24 years old. That just turned me off. My friend needed more care than that.
