Among Irvine’s many awards, the city ranked 15th on Livability’s Top 100 Best Places to Live for 2018 and has been consistently rated as one of the safest U.S. cities by the FBI. Active seniors will appreciate Irvine’s more than 16,000 acres of green spaces, which include walking and biking trails that wind throughout the city. While Irvine is central to many Orange County activities, older residents will find plenty of shopping, dining and attractions right in town at the one-stop Irvine Spectrum Center. The city sponsors a special council that advises on policies affecting its senior citizens, who make up nearly 9% of Irvine’s estimated 266,000 ethnically diverse residents.
To help seniors discover the most senior-friendly locations around the country, Caring.com conducted a new study, “The Best and Worst Places for Senior Living.” The Caring Senior Living Report analyzes and ranks 300 cities and 50 states on the quality of senior living in that area. The cities were graded using 46 metrics across five categories: Health Care, Senior Living & Housing, Affordability, Quality of life, and Transportation.
