"I toured Ecumen Litchfield, but I felt that some of the common areas weren't quite finished. They had the office-type partitions and I just thought that it didn't give a very nice finished look to the place. But they had some rooms that were finished off that were very nice. The dining area looked nice. They had a chapel area with some beautiful stained glass windows. The apartments were pretty much all the same. They had garages, but they were not attached to the buildings. The gal who gave me the tour knew what she was talking about. She explained things and she answered my questions."

"Damon was at the door to meet us when we arrived for our appointment. He gave us a thorough tour, and we had opportunity to visit at length with the head nursing team to see if they could provide the level of care my mother needs. We were very impressed with the facilities; they are very clean, new, and sunny. It felt more like a home than an institution. And we liked that they can provide care all they way to the point that my mother passes (hospice care). They said they cannot provide ventilator services (which my mother doesn't need, so that's not a problem for us)."

"Ecumen Oaks & Pines contacted me, and I went over and talked to the director and got some information. I really liked it, but they didn't have two-bedroom units; I really wanted a two-bedroom apartment. You could have meals or you can be totally free of any other services. You could just rent the apartment. It was very beautiful and very clean. I went at 1:00 or 2:00 in the afternoon, so there was no meal going on. They had a nice dining room, and they listed the menu. If you didn't like what they were having, you could order from another list. It was nice that you didn't have to eat what they were serving. You could have a hamburger or something else that day. They would bring it up to your apartment if you were ill. It was beautiful, but I didn't see many people around. There was a list for the week of what the activities there were, but I didn't see anything. They have garages if you have your car. They have memory care, but I didn't get into that area to see. You graduate from an apartment to just a room with a bath with no kitchen and all that. There you're more controlled. I don't think you go out on your own at all for your safety. It's nice to know you could stay there and move into that area if you progressed with your memory problems."

"Centennial Villa in Annandale wasn't too bad. The staff seemed very helpful, but we didn’t get a chance to tour the facility. We only looked at some of the private rooms. It was very nice, and they were very helpful and would have helped us get my mother moved, but she didn’t want to. As far as cleanliness and everything else, it was very nice. "

"Top notch care by professionals who obviously love their job and the residents they serve. staff to resident ratio = excellent; broad range of activities; exc. meals; very clean and homey. But mostly, you just can't beat the personal, caring interaction between staff and residents. I would want to go there if need be!!! "

"We looked at Brookridge Assisted Living. My mother-in-law liked that it was close to our house since it's the same town, about a mile away. She liked the environment, they had a bird aviary. She liked the decor, but it wasn't modern. It felt more like it was her age style, the furnishings were contemporary furniture and stuff like that. They had drapes where some of them don't have any window treatments. If you had to summarize it, it felt like home and it was close to our home. We dropped in unannounced so they didn't know we were coming. The person that gave us the tour is not the person that normally does that. She was one of the aides that works there. She did a very good job, she's very hospitable and everything, but it wasn't like a pre-arranged with the person that normally would give a tour. She was very friendly, very accommodating, and very knowledgeable. I've visited there quite often because I know other people that stay there and so they have breaks and lunches, all that in their community room. My wife and I often go there to visit with some of the people. So I mean, I was very familiar with it to begin with, where my mother-in-law, of course, just moved up here from Florida and had never seen it before. We did not have any food on our tour. But I've often joined their residents for snacks and they have sing-alongs, and church services."

"My mom is at Park Terrace. We chose this facility because they seem to have a good reputation and my brother lives just two blocks away from there. The staff was very friendly. The place is beautiful. It's clean, new, bright, and cheerful. It's more like a real residential area instead of what I would consider a traditional nursing home type environment. Definitely nicer that what I thought was possible. "

"We went to Lakeside Generations Senior Living Community. There are a lot more residents, so there's a feeling of community. There are a lot of people having coffee together, chatting, and doing different things. It's a larger facility. like the rate schedule, it starts out inexpensive, but then if you want, for example, prescription management, you pay so much per week for that. If you want just lunch, you pay so much a week for that or just dinner. You can build your own package, which is kind of attractive. They have a mini-kitchen with a refrigerator and microwave. We walked in unannounced. The staff was very good, she was the person that does that type of thing. She was extremely thorough and spent a lot of time with us, gave us a lot of written information, and did a really good job. They have a courtyard and it's actually on the lake, it's on Spring Lake in Dassel. They have a beautiful patio that's a hundred feet from the lake that overlooks the lake. It is very picturesque. The snack room where you eat your meals and have your mid-morning snack and everything overlooks the patio that overlooks the lake. So it was attractive. The building itself is relatively old though and it shows. It's clean, but it's not exactly what you'd call modern."

"We like Willows Landing. It was light, it was bright and open, and the hallways were nice and bright and airy. The rooms were good and they had decks that overlooks the Mississippi River, so that was nice. The apartments were small but they all had a full kitchen. They had games, and aerobic classes, they had a library, a pub, and a hair salon. The staff that gave us the tour, that was not her facility, she was helping them out from Iowa, and was training their new housing market person. So we had many, many questions she couldn't answer and she also didn't know any of the residents."

"My sister moved into Keller Lake Commons. What I like best is that her assisted living, her apartment, has the option of cooking her own meals, or they have a wonderful dining facility. They have many interactive things so she can socialize with others. The ambiance is great. We provided our own decorations for her apartment. It is a very separate apartment, so nobody is decorating it. Assisted living is expensive, but it's well worth what we get. They have multiple activities, which are church services and sing-alongs, speakers, and people who come in and display things like Norwegian heritage. Every day, they have at least one or two activities that people can participate in."

"The Sanctuary at St. Cloud was excellent. They have beautiful rooms. It's a new building. I'm extremely pleased. They only have assisted living and memory care, and I'm amazed that a memory care place can be as lovely as that. The people really know their business and give you the information that you need. The service provided is wonderful. They can choose their meals so not everybody is eating the same thing. They have two dining rooms, so they don't have a large crowd of people in one. They have a very fine activities director, she is full of life, and she has volunteers who assist her. The staff is excellent, and they have nurses and CNAs, so the care seems very fine. My sister likes it very much. It's beautiful and very appropriate. I have no complaints."

"I toured Cherrywood of Big Lake. I liked everything about it except the staff said that I'd be a perfect fit, we'd have no problem and I'd get in. And then finally, when she was done with her two weeks of paper checks, she said that I would need a level of care more than they had right now because they were missing a staff member. There was a beautiful park area in the back of the building to sit and visit with people. It was beautiful with trees and birds and it was great. There was a small stream that looked very nice. The rooms were large, and you had your own bathroom in your room."

"Benedict Court is an open, caring community with friendly and helpful staff. I volunteered and was paired with a resident, and we took advantage of all the facility had to offer, which included bingo, a recital hall, and a garden outside. The rooms are clean and spacious. As a volunteer, I felt rushed from the staff, as we had things to get done in the time allotted, but they were courteous to the residents' needs as well as mine. I also played in a band and at a recital in the facility, which had tons of tables and was well-outfitted for large groups of people to sit and watch performances. The food was average; it was what is to be expected from large-scale food production. They have a church available for prayer and Mass. I never saw a back-up at the resident help desk, and they never seemed to be understaffed. The residents got help when they needed it, but they were left to their own devices if that's what they preferred. "

"St. Cloud Benedict Court is a very good place and I'm very happy with them. My dad likes it there, he's happy and he wants to stay there even for the winter months. The staff is very good and very kind. The maintenance, the cleaning people, and the people bringing the meals are all top-notch. The room that dad has is very nice for him and he likes it. The bathroom is very close by to him. He's got a good view and his bird feeders are out front. He has a studio room with a living room, a kitchen and dining area, a bedroom, and a bathroom. They have bingo, counseling, music, and bus rides."
