"The Mary's Manor house seemed OK, but the price was a little off from what they had listed, so I was taken back a little by that. I had a full viewing of the property and saw the rooms that were becoming available. I also saw the structured menu that they had, and all of that seemed fine. I made a decision based on the fact that there's only a few residents there, and I didn't think my mom would fit in with a small group. It was a residential property"

"My dear friend needed a safe and comfortable to live when her dementia claimed her ability to care for herself. We found the staff knowledgeable, efficient, kind and welcoming. The transition to memory care was much easier than I had anticipated. Her room was comfortable, homey and cozy. The food satisfied her and looked pretty good. The menu was appealing. The dining room and activities were warm and cruise-like. I really think my dear friend thought she was on a vacation or at the country club lunching with the ladies. It's been a great fit for her. The staff was so welcoming and kind. They really cared about her whole person. They treated her kindly and preserved her dignity. They all knew her name. This is as close to being home with 24/7 care that I could find."

"I enjoyed my visit with Brookdale Fremont. The sales director was very pleasant and very helpful. The apartments were good, and the rooms were average quality compared to others I've seen. The dining rooms looked pleasant. The menu selections looked fine. They did have some exercise equipment and a woodworking shop. They had various activities everyday. The price was good, and the location was very good. It was close to public transportation. "

"My brother moved into Carlton Senior Living Fremont. I really love this community; it's too bad that they don't have memory care. That would be great for my brother. But he now has a living room and a bedroom, which are a very nice size. He has a nice little kitchen area. The floors are vinyl, so they can be mopped up easily. He has nice, clean carpets. He has a patio where he can slide the door open. They have a little patio area that has a fountain, so he can listen to the water from his room, which is very nice. The people there are very nice. They do have different caregivers who rotate, so sometimes the caregivers are very well versed in my brother's needs, and then sometimes they're new so I have to remind them, but that's just par for the course. Other than that, they're very responsive when I call. They will check on him and they call me, so the communication is always there. I like the environment in the dining room; you can order your food like you're in a restaurant, and you have tables where you sit. You feel like you're in a restaurant; you're not stuck in a cafeteria type of thing where you only have a few choices. At this place you can order whatever you like. They have a variety of choices. They have a variety of desserts and a variety of fruits and things like that. They also have a café down on the bottom floor that opened in late April or early May, and they have sandwiches you can get for free. You can get fresh-baked cookies, they have donuts, sometimes they'll have coffee with Bailey's or rum cake, and on Wednesdays they bring in donuts. But you can also just have a ham sandwich, or you can get juices. They have a machine that you can access without charge, which I think is fabulous. They also have a popcorn machine, a theater, and a game room with a pool table, a card table, and air hockey. So there are a lot of amenities at Carlton."

"I toured Bellara Senior Living. It was nice, very fancy. An experience that you want for anyone senior and transitioning into their later years. They have on-call nurses, and they have everything that you need there, you don't have to go out and get it, very much assisted. Everything is there all at once. You don't have to go anywhere. The staff was nice. They were very welcoming. They just wanted to get to know me and my family and make sure that if we were choosing that place, it would be the right place for us. It's a very new building. They had a bar. They had a bunch of seating areas. They had fancy bathrooms. They had a workout area. They had a whole courtyard where you could sit and talk and grill food. They had a beautiful kitchen that was restaurant-style."

"What I liked the best about Landmark Villa was the employees. There was nothing that I really didn't like. It was just a little dated. The staff member during the tour was very friendly, very nice, very caring, and very accommodating. There's a lot of activities for the residents to do. They have a salon, a courtyard, and a gym."

They seem to take really good care of my mom. They have a quiet room where you can sit and talk. The place is clean, and all of the residents seem to be really happy. "

"We were thinking of going with them for my mom. Everybody was great taking us on the tour. It was a very good facility. They take the residents out daily because there's a park there, and they go walking on the trail. They had a deck outside where people could go under their umbrellas, and it was nice there, too."

"I toured Welcome Home Senior Residence - Pleasanton. It's clean and neat, and it smelled good. The person who gave the tour was nice, they were friendly and open to showing the guest rooms or client rooms. I spoke to a guest there, she was very happy with the staff, and she liked the facility. She thought they were good-humored and she's enjoying her stay there, that's what she told me. It seemed nice, but they didn't have any openings at the time. And that was just an impromptu visit, they were not expecting me, and they're satisfactory."

"My mother-in-law has been at the Parkview for 3 and a half years. She's 99. As time has gone on, her needs have grown. The Parkview has maintained a high level of service for her and the staff is top notch. The administrator and the staff clearly care, although we see the occasional grumpy-ish associate, but never any with bad manners or mean spirits. The food, in my view, is better than adequate with restaurant style service for the seniors. But who doesn't complain about "institutional" food -- this is better than that. I see complaints here about the cost but you get what you pay for. There are options for those of lesser means, but they would seem to require staying a while at the regular rates. Costs can be cut if there are shared suites available to a resident. There is also the possibility for subsidized rent for local residents. We visited several facilities before placing Mother. This one was certainly the most convenient to us enabling us to visit frequently. If the Parkview is not the best, it is certainly a close second it of those we visited in the East Bay. "

"I have been here at Emerald Valley for three weeks now. There's not a lot I like about it. I have yet to get a meal come in hot. But the people that work here couldn't be any better. The staff are excellent. Food would probably be good if it's warm. They have quite a variety and everything else. There is a microwave in here so that I could heat it up, but I can't walk over there to do it. There's a refrigerator and a microwave in my room."

"I toured Welcome Home Senior Residences-Dublin for my mother. It seemed like they only have a handful of residents like four or six, so, it seems like they kind of do whatever the individual needs. It wasn't a group approach. The house was clean and cozy. I felt like there was a little bit of a trip hazard between the flooring, but it was very small and my mom's pretty stable. There was a little bit of a funny smell in there, too. But they also said they just had the couch cushions cleaned and we had our masks on. So, I don't know if it was just the cleaning solution. The person that gave us the tour doesn't stay there, but she was very good and knowledgeable. The two staff people that were there were quiet, but they seemed efficient, and they seemed present. We only saw one resident and I don't know if the others were just in their room. It doesn't seem like there was much activity going on like in a group home where they can plan for all the residents. If you want a quiet, calm, and just homey atmosphere, I think it was very nice. I might put my mom in more of a group setting because I think she needs more interaction and more inclusion and activity that would be planned. The dining area was just like the kitchen of a home. There was one big table which looked beautiful."

"We visited Marymount Villa. The staff was very nice and very informative. Their activities were great. They had karaoke and music. The facility itself was more like an apartment building in a city. So, the rooms were not very nice. They were very dated, not well set up, and somewhat small. I was sure that somebody could make it their own, but it seemed very dated. However, the dining room was lovely. It was very well done. They had a great menu. For somebody who grew up in the city or who wanted an apartment style setting, that would definitely be the location for them. They also had a beautiful balcony. My father wasn't into the activities that they were mostly into, and he didn't like the apartment settings. It was a nice facility, but I would definitely say that the room needed work. "
