"Atria at Foster Square was a very nice facility. I toured assisted living and memory care. They don't have much in the way of grounds because they're right in the middle of a shopping area, so shopping is very convenient. The building was very well kept and it's pretty new. it's only a few years old. The person who assisted me was very nice. I saw they were having an exercise class when I was there. The rooms were nice. They work like your standard studio or one-bedroom apartments."

"Oakmont of Redwood City was fine. I have no complaints. The staff during the tour was friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable, and gave us a good tour. I was pleased with the dining room, and I was pleased with the bedroom I looked at. I don't think I saw any activities there. I walked around and I saw their library, movie theater, fitness center, art studio, and dining room. I wasn't overly impressed with any of it, but they were all there. This week, they're having a banquet, so it won't be a really fair assessment of their food."

"Sunrise of San Mateo, so far, seems to be the one for my loved one. It looked great. This place was clean. They had a mix of residents who seemed very energetic. The caretakers and care master of the facility were very knowledgeable and seemed to be very caring there. They were very nice. They explained a lot of things to me about dementia and Alzheimer's, signs to look out for, etc., and I was very appreciative of that. The rooms were very nice. I know they have daily activities for residents there. The food looked good too. "

"The Vi (formerly Classic Residence by Hyatt) is an outstanding facility. Of course it's beautiful, well-appointed and staffed. The residents are interesting and friendly and there is a schedule of events that keep people active and involved. The dining facilities are attractive and the food is good. The location, across the street from Stanford University and the Stanford shopping center, is convenient. "

"We toured and it has great room sizes and nice decks off of each room. It had a gorgeous dining room. The staff was very friendly. The food looks scrumptious. They offered us food, but we just ate lunch. The food looks scrumptious and plentiful. They were having a party. They just weren't right for us. There was an individual who comes and checks on them, and I think someone helped them with bathing, but my mother's needs went beyond what they can do."

"It had an underground parking garage. I live in rural Oregon, and I don't do the parking garage thing. There was also street parking. To get into the parking garage, you had to have the code. The residents there seemed happy. I really liked that they had a family dining room that you could reserve for birthdays and so forth. I thought that was really neat. "

"My father is here. The staff has been very caring and responsive to the pandemic. There have been very few cases reported of the virus, which is remarkable considering what I hear about other assisted living situations. They are very responsive to family feedback and willing to accommodate the special needs of the residents. He wasn't ordering the right type of food to eat, so they are working with us to accommodate where we can help order his food. They help manage his medicines and keep the family up-to-date on his progress. It's one of the few assisted living places that has skilled nurses that can help administer medicine."

"My mother is at The Trousdale. They've been really good. We got her place there and then the COVID hit, and visitors have been very limited for a while. They went to great pains to set up kind of a distance visiting, and she developed cellulitis in her legs and she had to be hospitalized. Then they lost her expensive hearing aid, she got kind of combative and refused medications, and it was kind of a nightmare, and we could only talk to her like through an open window; it was awful. Then she was well enough, and The Trousdale was good enough to accept her back into their facility, and the hospice kinda took over her care. She's pretty comfortable now, and we're very happy. We're very happy with Trousdale. I rate the staff a five, however there's some language barriers occasionally because a lot of the staff there are from different cultures and background, a lot of Asian, Filipino and Asian, and sometime there's a little communication problem. It's not serious, it's just that the communication is a little difficult with a few of the staff because English is obviously not their first language, that's all I'm saying. Her room is wonderful, the room is beautiful, the facility is beautiful, clean, nice, and it's very new. I'd say we're paying quite a bit and sometimes I feel that they call us frequently with problems and requests. The staff is very caring and very nice. There's a little bit of language problem once in a while, nothing serious. We're very happy with it. It's very expensive though; it's $10,000 a month we pay and oftentimes over the year they've had problems because she is suffering of course from dementia. She gets a little combative when it comes to the cleaning, the dressing, the giving of medications, and they don't seem to have a good handle on that. We get a call once or twice a week: "Your mother's not taking her medicine." And I just feel like, "Hey, you're the professionals, why can't you guys figure out a way to get around that combative behavior?""

"Palo Alto Commons looked very clean and welcoming. I felt very comfortable there. The room was adequate. The woman during the tour was very good, very kind and welcoming, and interested in my problems and how to solve them. I was offered the opportunity to come to have a meal there, but I have not taken them up on that. It looked like a nice sociable facility and socialization would be very important. We passed by a physical exercise class and that was good. I certainly think that my husband would be able to participate in that."
