Hi Ray, Thank you for the good review and kind words. Perhaps you toured our empty cottage for safety reasons, but we do have daily (socially distanced) activities with the residents in our 2 full cottages! Don't hesitate to reach out to Jennifer or Jason if you need anything from us.

What ongoing training does the staff receive in dementia care?
Our staff attend monthly inservice training and also special guest training with partners like Benavilla and Hospice.
How many staffers are on duty in the daytime and overnight?
We staff at a ratio of approximately staff member to every eight residents.
What programs or activities does Avista Sun City West offer to keep residents engaged? How does the staff engage residents' long-term memories?
Avista Sun City West has a full time activities director. With our small cottage-like features, we are able to individualize the activity and care that each resident receives.
Who assesses residents' health and cognitive functioning? How often is that assessment repeated?
All residents are assessed by trained staff members prior to and at admissions. Team members will work with families on a service plan to ensure that everyone involved will be able to assist with their care. This is done every three months or if there is any change of condition.
What techniques does Avista Sun City West use to support memory care residents during mealtimes?
With our cottage-like settings, we are able to assist residents in a family-style dining setting. This includes assisting residents with dining for those who may need assistance or one-on-one help.
How does Avista Sun City West keep residents' families informed about their loved ones' health?
We maintain open communication with our residents' families. All families have our cell phones and can reach out to anyone in leadership at any time. If a resident is experiencing any changes or concerns, we are more than happy to schedule regular updates based on the family's preferences. We also use social media so families can see the numerous activities here at the community and so families who are not local may also join in on the fun.
Describe the neighborhood around Avista Sun City West. Is it located in a residential neighborhood, a business district, a rural setting, or other type of locale?
Avista Sun City West is located in the heart of the Sun CIty West community, across the street from the SCW Recreation Center. Most of our residents are from this neighborhood and that this creates an environment where everyone remains as a community. Many of our families use each other for support, friendship, and to share information.
Is Avista Sun City West affiliated with a hospital if more care is needed?
Sun City West is located between Banner Boswell and Banner Del Webb. We even partner with multiple medical providers to allow for services such as general practitioners, podiatry, dentistry, vision, home health, and other services to be done at the community.
Avista Sun City West is a locally owned memory care community dedicated to serving those with dementia and Alzheimer’s in the west valley. Built as three separate and secure cottages with 16 apartments each, you benefit from a smaller neighborhood feel while also sharing a common large backyard space for walking and enjoying nature. Each cottage has been designed with amazing dining, living, and activity spaces to help make every day a meaningful one!
Everyone is unique, and so our holistic approach to care is designed to engage our residents and meet them where they are. In order to do so successfully, we rely on knowledge and an understanding of each resident’s specific personal history and needs.
