My Sister just moved to Magnolia House from Azalea House and I was so concerned she would be disoriented or lost because of the trauma that kind of move can cause. Because of the special care that all of the people working at Magnolia House seem to give to their residents, she has been able to adjust quite easily as far as I can see. Her surroundings are lovely, clean and very organized. I live in another state so when I come for a visit I tend to spend the better part of day or days with her. In less than 4 hours, I came to be so impressed with the attention the residents receive from the staff. I can even name a few people (first names only) who specifically make my Sister feel at home - Julie, Rita, Diane and others. Diane L, the Activity Coordinator led residents who were interested to a meeting room where Bill (resident of Azalea House) played the piano and together both of them coordinated and encouraged all there to join in singing hymns. When Bill was finished, Diane encouraged us all to participate in a verbal memory activity of filling in the blank of cliches that we have all been familiar with - wonderful stimulation for everyone there. Another resident led all of us in exercising the upper part of our bodies while sitting. All and all after these sequential social activities, I think many of us felt a sense of accomplishment and we enjoyed a nice leisurely lunch.

I liked that Summer Village had lots of space and that they provide good care. They got nice facilities, although they were older, and social activities. They have weight rooms, exercise classes, and food. The activities were full and it's up to you to participate.

My mother stayed at Summer Village in Auburn. She stayed at the building they called Magnolia Place. There were few communications between the management, the staff, and the residents' families while we were in there. Even if you called to ask how your family member was doing, their answer was always just "fine". That's all their answers were -- they were very short. When you can't go in and physically see your family member, you stake a little more on a company that size, and then all you get is "fine". Towards the end, mom got to a point where she couldn't stand up, and we had suspicions that they didn't keep track of patients, but they were determined to say that it was COVID-related. They also called my sister and I and told us that one of us should come and take care of mom because they couldn't let go of enough caretakers to help her get up and down. Then, after my sister was there to take care of her for two nights, they told my sister that they had a positive case of COVID in the building the day before they told us that one of us should stay and help my mom. So they brought my sister in from the outside and let her stay in a building where they had a positive case of COVID. That put my sister at risk, and it just wasn't right; they were just very unprofessional. I know they've had a recent change in the management and that might have been the problem during the time my mom was there. I learned that the executive director of the Magnolia Place had been replaced, so I think that might have been the whole problem. She didn't know what she was doing. We had a baby monitor hooked up to our mom's room so we could see her. When she went into Magnolia Place, she was carrying on conversations. She might have said the same thing over and over again because that's Alzheimer's, but she was trying to carry on conversations with people, and she was excited to go to this place. In her eyes, she was going to get her own apartment, she was going to be around people her own age, and she would be able to talk to people from her "own world" as she called it. Her first month there everything was fine, but after that, she started going downhill. She became angry, defensive, and she started shutting off toward everybody. When we got in to watch the monitor more closely, what was happening was she was just staying in her room all the time. Sitting in her recliner, she would talk to the TV, but there was no interaction other than the nurses coming in and giving her medicine and leaving it. They would bring her meals in a Styrofoam to-go box and set it in front of her and leave. The building was more clinical than anything, like walking into a doctor's office or a hospital, but it had been cleaned. The rooms were okay but if you care about your family member, I wouldn't place them in Summer Village.

The staff at Summer Village was very knowledgeable and very caring. Their accommodations were excellent. Everything was in-room as far as bathroom, and they had places to mount your television and cable was included. The activities were great. They had a piano in the front, the residents were playing the piano, they had televisions, movie rooms, and a library. It was a great facility.

I liked Summer Village very much and was impressed. The units were large, very modern, and well-kept. They all had a nice area for storage in your garage; not very many places have their own garage, so that's a plus. They had an exercise program that I participated in that was half an hour of Sit and Be Fit. They also had some kind of a luau for lunch that I got to enjoy. The food was excellent, but this was a special occasion. They were the nicest one for the price in the whole Georgia and Alabama areas. My overall impression on the staff is very good.

My relative was at Magnolia for only a few weeks. It seemed like it would be a great place. Unfortunately, they did not deliver what they said they would. The activities coordinator was dismissed as soon as we arrived. I wish had read the reviews as it seems like this is an ongoing problem. Cleaning and laundry was not done when they said it would be. The food was just ok and even though we marked items that she would not eat, they still gave it to her. Too many times residents were wandering around on their own with no staff member in site to help them. I made a complaint and was told someone would follow up with me. No one ever called me so we gave 30 days notice and found another place.

My mother lives at Magnolia in the independent living. Since the new company took over from East AL Medical Center, the food has been below average. The activities person for the independent living residence was moved to another facility, so now the residence do activities on their own. However, lately Magnolia has done several improvements to the grounds but this really doesn't benefit the residence. My mother's rent has gone up and food quality went down. I am not sure I would recommend Magnolia since this new company took over. I suggest the food get better is a must. Also a new activities person for the residence in independently living to facilitate games, exercise and outings (like going out for dinner at a restaurant like they once did). Thank you

Our aunt and uncle are in Magnolia Place in the largest room there. The ambience is fine. They had a major overhaul or major renovation of the whole establishment and are finishing it right now. The staff is very good and treat them very nicely. They need to improve on the food and the menu itself. It is nutritious but pretty bland and sometimes the amount is not sufficient. The price is competitive with other places. I think they are making a bigger effort for activities. They went through a period of time without having an activities director, then hired a new one who is working very hard.

Azalea Place was very good, but he did not like it because it was so far from his home. He was never happy there, and he felt that everybody was a stranger. He knows no one in the area or in the community. The atmosphere was great; it was very clean. The residents seemed to be a priority. They provided a lot of services like weekly transportation to shopping. They had an activity every day, and they did a lot to keep the residents involved. I felt very well of them, and they were doing everything they needed to do.

My grandmother lives at Azalea Place. She seems to really enjoy it there, and the staff takes care of all of her needs. Her room is comfortable and well-furnished, and there is always someone available to help my grandmother when she needs assistance. The menu has a lot of variety and the food is absolutely wonderful--I often visit grandmother at meal times so I can finish her plate! Some of the residents need a lot of care to feel comfortable and safe, but the staff is always ready for anything. The premises were secure, which also lends itself to the mental well-being of both the residents and their relatives. They provide lots of activities for the residents, and I think this helps create a sense of community among the people living there. There are beautiful outside areas to enjoy, and spacious common rooms. I am so glad my grandmother has a home at Azalea Place!

Azalea place is a beautiful assisted living facility in the college town of Auburn Alabama, where my aunt resided for 3 years. The staff is beyond friendly, they treat the residents as members of their family not paitents. The community of seniors is very active. They plan numerous outings both in the surrounding area and day trips to Atlanta and Birmingham. Also a group of students from some volunteer club at Auburn University visit for a few hours once every 2 weeks, with some visiting more often. The residents and students both seem to really look forward to these visits and it's amazing to see people 3 generations apart conversing like old friends. Overall Azalea place provides a wonderful environment of community and activity. The grounds surrounding the area is beautiful as well and provides outdoor activities for the residents as well. Auburn is a unique community where young and old interact and flourish together.

From the moment I walked through the front door, the facility felt very welcoming and that the nurses and staffers there cared and had fun doing their jobs. We were shopping around in the Auburn area for a place for my mother since she has dementia. We wanted to make sure she had the best care and that she was in a local vicinity to a hospital and East Alabama Medical Clinic is nearby. The rooms are spacious and it didn't feel like a stale environment like other homes we visited. The seniors living there were active and non-comotose. I wanted to make sure my mother would have access to a good, attention giving care and also daily nutritious food. There menu had a lot of a variety to it. While we might keep looking for a different nursing facility, this one is closer to the top of our list.
