"Deon is an answer to a prayer! He's our angel. He is thourough, gentle, sweet, and loving with my Dad. I really cannot say enough nice things about him. My Dad loves him and asks for him when he's not here. I don't worry one bit about Dad when he is in Deon's care. "

"I am using Seniors Helping Seniors - Beaufort County for my mom. It's non-medical, and mostly they stay with my mom. My mom is 91, she has dementia, and they help with her care. She's in adult diapers. She doesn't see well. They also do some light housekeeping, which I don't mind. For the most part, they're there for her, and that's all I really care about, is that I have somebody here watching my mom. So, I can go out and do the things I need to do and not have to worry that she's going to get out of the house and wander around on the street. They are always in contact with me. They always help me out. They were good about following through and making sure everything was OK. So, I haven't really had a problem. I like them a lot. They are always checking in on me, trying to make sure I get everything I need."

"I've been using Visiting Angels Bluffton for a month now. The first one that came was a young girl, and she was very good. The second older lady was much more experienced, and she's very good as well. She's got the knowledge, and she knows what she has to do and what I have to do. I'm very happy so far. I chose them because the lead person who came to see me was very positive, and they billed my insurance company direct."

"My husband has had caregivers from Right at Home for a number of years. They are very anxious to provide the right caregiver to match the personality and needs of their clients. We have had 3 really great caregivers during that time. As needs change it is often necessary to change caregivers. He used to need someone everyday for many hours and now we use someone only 3 days a week. The agency has been very responsive to our requests, especially Miss Sandra."

"When I needed a sitter to be with my father 24/7, I was referred to Firstlight Home Care. Their team truly cares about people. I needed a sitter to start ASAP, and they bent over backwards to make sure may father would be cared for. I coordinated with Stephen and he could not have been more responsive, knowledgeable and, above all, compassionate. Firstlight treated my family - like family, and I will forever be grateful for the top notch attentiveness I have experienced. "

"My 96 yo aunt is a current client. The staff, especially administration, has been very tolerant of her many idiosyncrasies & responsive to her "meltdowns." The staff has anticipated problems with her & her home & has worked hard to solve them, despite her resistance to change. I am so thankful for this professional, educated, caring organization. "

"We have ComForcare Senior Services Bluffton for the time being, and it is perfect. They feed my husband, remind him to take his medications, and to drink water while I'm out and do light housekeeping duties. She is a very competent certified nurse's aide and will do anything I ask her to do and is very congenial. It's just what I need, and I'm absolutely satisfied with her."

Given the high cost of in-home care, many people use one or more forms of financial assistance to cover the expenses. Below, we explain some of the most common sources of financial help for paying for in-home care. If none of these options are available to you, you can reach out to your Area Agency on Aging or Aging and Disability Resource Center to learn about local resources.
Savannah offers numerous free and low-cost services for seniors who live in their homes. Information specialists at local agencies connect seniors with helpful resources, including home repair, meal delivery and property tax exemptions. Aging can be a difficult process, and loved ones may not always ask for help – oftentimes it’s up to their family to evaluate their need for help around the house. While no two situations are exactly alike, this checklist can help you and your loved ones determine when it’s time to start the search for a home care provider.

If you’ve determined that your loved one needs the assistance of a care provider in their home, it may be time for a difficult conversation. Handled correctly, however, this process can bring a family together and ensure that everyone’s concerns are addressed. Use this PDF as a starting point to help the conversation stay as positive and productive as possible.
