The town of Windsor is a rapidly growing, picturesque mountain community. Windsor’s climate is semi-arid, meaning little rain or humidity and warm summers, though with cold winter weather. This small city offers a number of recreational opportunities, social events and an expanding range of shopping venues in the midst of small-town charm. One notable place to visit is the Windsor History Museum. Residents can also enjoy a look through Windsor’s Art and Heritage Center. Nearby Windsor Lake offers mellow dawn and dusk views along 2.5 miles of light hiking trails that surround it. The town also hosts several annual public events for culinary adventures and socializing. The U.S. Census 2019 estimated population of Windsor is 30,477. Of these, 15.3% are 65 or older, close to the national average.

Despite its small size, Windsor is home to robust healthcare options. The largest hospital in town is the UCHealth Windsor Medical Center, followed by the Medical Center of the Rockies. Based on the Genworth Cost of Care Survey 2020, $5,053 and $5,529 are the respective costs of homemaker and home health aide services in Windsor. This is moderately above national averages of $4,481 and $4,576.

Note: Home care cost data wasn’t available for Windsor, so data for the closest city, Greeley, was used.

At Caring.com, we’ve compiled a comprehensive directory of every home care provider in the Windsor area – complete with types of care provided, services offered and reviews from families who’ve actually used the service. Windsor Home Care Resources

Home care services are only one of the pieces needed for seniors to gracefully age in place. There are many services and programs that are low-cost or free, that enable seniors to enjoy an independent lifestyle in the comfort of their own home, such as help with home modifications, meal delivery services, and more. Below, we’ve compiled a few of the most helpful resources in Windsor:

United Way of Weld County

The United Way of Weld County’s program for elderly adults includes specific transportation services that let seniors visit medical appointments, churches, grocery shopping venues, family members and even places such as beauty salons. United Way of Weld County also offers utility bill payment assistance and food delivery services to eligible applicants of all ages throughout the county.

Windsor Community Recreation Center Boxed Lunch Program

The Community Recreation Center serves boxed lunches for senior citizens as part of a sponsorship program from the Weld County Area Agency on Aging and local restaurant venues. These lunches must be reserved one day in advance but are free of charge with only a suggested donation as a request. Meals are designed to be balanced and nutritious. Seniors in low-income circumstances can also use the Community Recreation Center’s exercise and rec facilities at reduced entry fees after presenting proof of low income and residency.

Aside from this, the Agency also offers services such as its Chore Service Program for eligible adults who need household assistance. A dental, vision and hearing program is also available for direct support in covering these types of health expenses for seniors 60 or older. Other programs for family caregiver assistance and raising grandchildren can also be arranged.

Residents earning less than $25,760 per year for a single-person home or $34,840 in a two-person home may apply.

Determining Your Loved One’s Need for In-Home Care

Aging can be a difficult process, and loved ones may not always ask for help – oftentimes it’s up to their family to evaluate their need for help around the house. While no two situations are exactly alike, this checklist can help you and your loved ones determine when it’s time to start the search for a home care provider.
